Chapter 7 - Small talk

Everyone was cruising in Dixie's ship and ahead towards Xina. Moore was stargazing one of the windows

"Xina…one of the most beautiful places in the universe, yet being the most hostile environment."

"Hey Moore! Why are you talking to yourself like a weirdo or who has lost it!" Amaru bluntly said

"I was coping and grounding myself you arachnid bimbo!" Moore had her arms straight down and her hands clenching in a tightening of tension where her blood rush show the redness of her face and hands

"Ha! Arachnid Bimbo, good one Moore. Now we camera and fine stallions and I can show you why I am such a Spider Bimbo~" Amaru unzips her high collar jacket revealing some skin on top of her chest and showing a defined collar bone of hers.

Moore had one her upper lip pulled up and her rest lips curled downward with shaking her head. "You absolute—"

Then put her finger on her lips.

"I recommend you don't use any slurs Moore. Remember. You are supposed to be the civil one of the group." Amaru said and gave a grin that said "I could snap your life without a second thought but I am behaving to you and Tyson."

Moore relaxed and turned away back to the window. "You are such a annoyance." She muttered under breath.

The hum of Dixie's ship deepened as the crew gathered in the bay. Monitors glowed with maps of Xina's twisted orbit.

Tyson stood by the holo-table.

"Right. We know Xina's a rogue planet. Few worlds in the Milky Way even have living ecosystems. Radiation levels are extreme, Cygnus X-1 throws out X-rays and gamma bursts strong enough to cook armor. Everyone suits up; the exosuits will keep you from frying."

CAT flickered into focus.

"Agreed, sir Tyson. As mentioned earlier, the ecosystem represents one of the most dangerous evolutionary processes ever recorded. Despite its rogue status, life has adapted, bioluminescent organisms, scale-hiders, and sympathetic tissues that mimic diamonds."

Amaru had slipped in quietly, arms folded, listening.

She spoke before anyone noticed her move.

"The Wraith hunts, or absorbs organic material to secrete its acid. It'll nest near volcanic zones to drink radiation from Cygnus X-1. Whole surface there burns to crisp."

Limes tilted his head, clicking.

"Zes… zou zre zight. Zow zou znow?"

Amaru grinned, sweat beading at her temple.

"Oh? Just wondering what you all think about Horrors."

The room froze.

Moore: "An error."

Dixie: "Bloody pain in the ass."

Limes: "Zhe zorse."

Nyxa: "… "

Four pairs of eyes turned toward her.

Amaru laughed weakly.

"I'll be going, so—"

Dixie cut her off.

"You don't drop a question like that and walk out, galah. We know what you are."

Tyson's hand hovered near his weapon.

Before tension could snap, Nyxa finally spoke—her voice soft, calm.

"It's fine, Miss Amaru."

All eyes swung to her.

"You suspected me the moment you saw me. A familiar kinship—you and I are alike."

Amaru's grin faded. Her talons clicked from her fingertips.

"Then tell me, moth. Who's your god?"

Nyxa's expression didn't change.

"… He lied to me. Made me serve him. You mortals call him the Lord of Flies."

Tyson's eyes widened.

"Beelzebub," Amaru whispered, the word tasting like a curse.

Nyxa inclined her head.

"Yes. But I'll speak no further. I barely know you—and I do not yet trust the Broodmother's spawn."

Her wings flared, thin membranes trembling against the bay lights as the Spider's claws twitched in answer.

Silence filled the room, heavy and electric.
