Chapter 48 - Chapter 47

Rodney considered for a moment. The water shortage in Yuba wasn't as acute as in Alubarna, but sandstorms were a regular occurrence. Without the efforts of Toto and his team, Yuba could suffer the same fate as Erumalu. The recent sandstorm foreshadowed the imminent destruction of this oasis—less than six months. The Crocodile was still here, meaning the situation wasn't so dire that he'd join the rebels. That spoke volumes about his trust in Cobra. But the Crocodile was still causing trouble: he wanted to wipe Yuba off the face of the earth. There was something strange in the atmosphere here... But it didn't matter. As long as he could disband the Barak Works Society before the rebellion and defeat the Crocodile, all would be well. Sand fruit, indeed... He said goodbye to Toto without asking why he was there. Perhaps he was a nocturnal creature? Standing by the narrow window, Rodney peered out into the quiet, deserted night. If Shukaku or Gaara's sand had been here, he wondered what expression the tanuki would have had upon meeting Crocodile. Interesting, no doubt. But fighting the sand was pointless. Crocodile's weakness was obvious—he relied too heavily on his Devil Fruit. Under favorable conditions, he could unleash terrifying power. But the moment he touched water, the sand hardened, temporarily stripping him of his powers, significantly weakening him. At that point, Crocodile's strength would undoubtedly be far weaker than Rodney's. He couldn't help but smirk, imagining how easily he could dispatch Crocodile. At the thought, he chuckled like a villain, his expression taking on a sinister expression.

Early the next morning, before the sun had risen and the sky was dim, Rodney woke up and ate breakfast. Meeting Goat, who was carrying a shovel, Rodney asked curiously:

- Goat, since the sandstorm hasn't started yet, what are you doing with the shovel?

The goat explained:

"I'm digging a well. Yuba can't rely on waterways alone, or everyone here will die."

Water was precious, as essential as life itself. In this arid desert, it was especially crucial. Water in Yuba was truly running low, and they couldn't rely solely on water utilities.

"I'll help too," Rodney said with a smile.

"How can I let you do that? You've already helped us so much," Koza replied.

"It's okay. I have nothing better to do anyway, so I'll just rest here for a bit," Rodney shook his head and added, "Bring me a few more shovels, I'll need them."

Remembering Rodney's use of his power during the sandstorm, Koza nodded and ordered several shovels. He created over a dozen clones, and together with Koza's group, they found a nearby patch of vegetation and began digging.

- Hey, everyone, let's work to find water!

With shovels in hand, the clones worked in groups of two or three. Using chakra and brute force, they dug quickly. Some clones even sensed that their shovels weren't enough and resorted to Earth Release. Koza stood dumbfounded, unsure what to do with all the sand the clones had accumulated. Rodney poured out some sand and crouched down, feeling the soil. It was damp, but not completely dry. He felt he'd found the right spot and called out, "Come on!"

- Goat, Goat!

"Mr. Rodney, I'm here," Goat crawled to the edge of the pit and looked down. Rodney said:

— I dug in the right place; there should be water here.

"This is fantastic!" Koza clenched his fists in joy, unable to contain himself. "Bring me the sand transport tools; I've already compacted the soil around the hole. It's too difficult to compact the sand myself."

"Understood. Please wait a moment," Koza understood, ordering someone to bring sand-carrying tools. After that, the clones and Koza's group began carrying the sand. As they carried it, it became increasingly heavier. Since the sand contained water, they didn't pile it up, but planned to distill it into drinking water. When resources are scarce, humans find a way. If Yuba weren't located in the heart of the desert, they might have already figured out how to distill seawater.

"Hey, we dug it out! There's water here! Wait! Stop digging!" Rodney heard and rushed over, seeing Rodney standing in the murky water. The clones continued digging, and the water level kept rising.

— Water! There's water! Hahaha! Yuba can regain his former vitality! Excellent!

"Thank heavens! We will surely overcome the sandstorm! As long as it rains, Yuba will return to its former glory!"

Digging up fresh water was undoubtedly a powerful stimulant for everyone present. Water meant life; now blood flowed through Yuba's veins, and they could restore the city to its former prosperity.

- This is fantastic! There is water here!

Koza clenched his fists tightly: Yuba could hold out for a while longer. Rodney and three clones returned to the edge of the water pit and used Earth Release: Earth Stream Wave, sealing off the area. He said:

— Let a few people rebuild this place to avoid direct sunlight and prevent senseless evaporation of water.

Koza understood and commissioned someone to find Yuba's best masons to build a sunshade and a gate to prevent sandstorms from easily flooding the pit. Although drawing water was a hassle, it was better than wasting it. If Yuba hadn't been so deep in the desert, they would surely have already figured out a way to distill seawater.

- Hey, why now?

Rodney stepped into the path where Bunchip was passing and intercepted him. The carriage door opened, and a group of people emerged. A bald man with his arms crossed and the number "1" on his chest emerged from the crowd. He was tall, muscular, and wore what looked like a monk's robes. Two snake patterns were etched on either side of his chest. His expression was cold, not conducive to conversation. But what caught Rodney's attention most was the man leaning on his feet, dressed in a pink swan robe with the words "Bon Clay" written on the back. Two large, hairy legs protruded outward, and his face was painted with captivating makeup. One leg was raised, while the other rested on the ground, like a ballet dancer. He kept shouting, "1, 2, 1, 1, 2, 1, 2, 1..."

Mr. 2, an advanced agent of the Barak Works Society, was the only one without a partner, and his gender was... transvestite. The world was full of all sorts of marvels, including transvestites.

"It seems they have their own country where they come from," Bon Clay mused. "Sanji spent two years there, eking out a miserable existence. For a depraved man like him, it was the worst kind of torment, and he almost disappeared into that grim reality... But Bon Clay, though a pervert, was a noble man, not entirely black. "Never mind," he muttered, "I'll spare him when the time comes."

His gaze slid over the others' faces, landing on the man with the number "1" on either side. Mr. 11, Kashu, one of the fifty Master Blades! If Bon Clay needed a weapon, people brought it to him.
