Chapter 132 - Provocation Against the Guardians

In Shen He's previous world, many people believed that Parker became Spider-Man out of guilt for not saving his uncle.

But Shen He thought that this young man enjoyed helping others in his bones; his uncle's matter was just a trigger.

Actually, Parker was indeed hesitating.

He wanted to join the Guardians team, but he was worried he would be rejected, and also worried that it would ruin his original life.

After gaining his abilities, although he couldn't resist showing off a little, he had been trying to hide it.

So in the end, Parker decided to wait and see for a while.

Shen He's appearance this time was ostensibly to explain the reason for establishing the Guardians team, but in reality, he had leaked a lot of information.

Although he forbade the students from taking photos, he didn't prohibit them from going online.

So, very quickly, written accounts of what happened that day appeared on social media. Many of these excellent students were quite skilled with words, vividly describing Shen He's appearance and the subsequent events and conversations.

As a result, the vast online community was buzzing with discussion on major media websites.

"The Hooded Valkyrie is already married? Is she really that beautiful?"

Jeanne garnered the most attention, since she had been healing the wounded. Online, Jeanne's fans even outnumbered those of Skye and Wanda combined.

"Shattering a solid pillar of pure metal with a single punch? Even Captain America isn't that strong." Many also focused on the strength Shen He displayed.

"The Hooded Goddess is blonde, but the chairman of the Virtual Reality company is Chinese. This shows that Chaldea is a global organization."

"But why isn't there any record of this in history? Could it be the Caribbean Pirates?"

"The person above me, Chaldea and Caribbean sound only a little bit alike, and it was said to be a mysterious organization."

There are also many who are interested in Chaldea, and in this way, the virtual reality technology put forward by the virtual reality company can be explained—why such a great invention doesn't have an inventor stepping forward.

"I'm more concerned about what the other side said,

Are extraordinary powers increasing? Wouldn't those who haven't gained abilities be in danger?"

Some people have already begun to worry about the safety of ordinary people.

However, such comments only occupied a small part, as America is a country with vast differences in crime rates depending on the region.

At least until the number of extraordinary ability possessors reaches a significant level, no one will pay too much attention to this problem.

Shen He was browsing the comments on the internet in his office.

From morning until evening, the entire internet was buzzing with discussions about Shen He and Chaldea.

Those speaking out against them, or spreading threats, were basically only the major media outlets. Although Stark Industries and the virtual reality company held controlling shares in some media, they didn't control everything. In order to gain attention, they would seize upon any angle, no matter how outlandish, and spout ridiculous fallacies. The main target of their attacks was no longer the Guardians, but rather Chaldea, which was hidden behind the scenes.

For example, they speculated that Chaldea was comprised of extraterrestrials who had come to invade Earth, and that Tony Stark and Captain America had already been controlled.

Although there was no evidence whatsoever, a significant portion of ordinary people actually believed such media reports.

At this moment, a person suddenly appeared in the office.

"Master, something's happened."

Among the Servants, the only one who could appear instantly was Saiki Kusuo.

Saiki Kusuo didn't look very presentable at the moment, as his face and body were covered in dirty black soot.

"You blew up the kitchen!?" Shen He was startled.

Today was a special day because Jeanne had suddenly initiated an activity, saying she wanted to make dinner for the Master with the others.

Shen He was also happy to let them mess around, and he happily made up his mind that he would eat everything, even if it was hellish cuisine, because it wouldn't kill him.

"I just suddenly predicted the future." Saiki Kusuo's expression was a little serious, "Tonight, there will be a major fire in the Manhattan district of New York, an entire high-rise building, with nearly a thousand people dead."

Shen He breathed a sigh of relief when he heard this.

It was good that they hadn't blown up the kitchen.

"Also, because I was using telekinesis to control the natural gas fire when the prediction appeared, the kitchen also blew up."

"..."

"Then I used my ability to rewind time and restored the kitchen."

"..."

"But the dishes also reverted back into ingredients."

"..."

Shen He felt a huge "囧" (embarrassed) written all over his face.

"Ahem." Shen He cleared his throat. "Don't worry too much about the disaster. Since we already foresaw it, there shouldn't be a problem... In fact, Chaldea actually needs some major disasters right now."

In front of Saiki Kusuo, there was no need to hide anything. Because Shen He had defined Chaldea's public image as solving major disasters that the Guardians couldn't handle. Now that the existence of this organization had been made public, some crises that required their intervention would actually play an important role.

"But I didn't see the specific location." Saiki Kusuo was still a little worried. "I only saw a high-rise building engulfed in flames."

His precognition wasn't something he could control; it often came on passively and was always connected to disasters.

"It doesn't matter," Shen He said, standing up. "The Master will give Jeanne inspiration. Let's solve the dinner problem before it gets dark. We need to eat our fill to have the strength to save people."

It was a pity he wouldn't get to see Jeanne's homemade hellish cuisine.

"Why do you automatically assume it's hellish cuisine?" Saiki Kusuo couldn't help but retort.

"Because it's common sense," Shen He said seriously, shaking a finger. "Women, as a species, are either universally skilled in cooking or kitchen killers. There's no such thing as something that's not quite delicious or not quite bad. Jeanne hasn't added any skill points in cooking, so... you should understand, right, Saiki?"

"Where is that common sense from! Apologize to normal housewives!"

Saiki Kusuo, while complaining, followed Shen He to the kitchen.

The kitchen, which could accommodate more than a dozen chefs, was completely renovated, even the uncleaned range hood, just like when it had just been renovated.

Jeanne and Ryogi Shiki, along with everyone else, were wearing aprons, which made Shen He's eyes light up.

Especially Ryogi Shiki, who wasn't wearing her kimono for once. Instead, she was dressed in a simple long-sleeved shirt and an apron, which gave her an unexpectedly novel look.

Although she looked beautiful in a kimono, seeing it too often could lead to aesthetic fatigue.

"Master..."

Jeanne stood there looking somewhat aggrieved.

"Alright, it's not your fault," Shen He rolled up his sleeves and walked over. "If you feel bad, then come and help. It's easy when there are more people. By the way, why are Misaka Mikoto and Violet here too?"

He had initially thought it was just Jeanne and Ryogi Shiki, plus Saiki Kusuo.

Lelouch and Accelerator only knew how to eat, but the Railgun always gave off the feeling that she was going to blow up the kitchen.

"Don't underestimate me." Misaka Mikoto's bangs sparked with a small burst of electricity, and she turned her head proudly. "Hmph, I got top marks in cooking class, this little thing is nothing."

"Really? Then… let's start with killing the fish." Shen He looked at the ingredients.

Because they wanted everything fresh, the fish, shrimp, and crabs were all still wriggling.

It was a pity there were no Gekota, Shen He actually liked eating Gekota.

Misaka Mikoto's face immediately turned a little pale, although it couldn't compare to Gekota, but the little fishy looked so cute.

"I'll do it."

Ryogi Shiki walked over directly, picked up a large grass carp and placed it on the chopping board, raised the cleaver, and with a swift cut, ripped open its belly. The wriggling fish immediately went silent.

She even brought out her Mystic Eyes of Death Perception to kill the fish.

On the other side, Violet imitated Ryogi Shiki and picked up a small fish, but even after cutting it open with her dagger, the fish was still wriggling violently.

Her delicate little face was immediately somewhat bewildered.

When she was alone, surviving on the deserted island, she would catch prey and eat it raw, never having the experience of killing fish.

"Leave that there, don't move. You should go make a cake instead."

Ryogi Shiki squatted down and used her apron to wipe the fish blood that had splashed on Violet's face.

Shen He suddenly felt that cooking together like this seemed more interesting than doing it alone, at least more pleasing to the eye.

The only thing that disappointed him slightly was that Jeanne also looked equally skilled.

"When I was in the countryside before, I often helped my mother cook," Jeanne said, seemingly noticing Shen He's surprise, a little embarrassed. "It's just that the taste wasn't very good, and there weren't any seasonings in those days."

"It's nothing," Shen He could only smile wryly.

He couldn't exactly say he was looking forward to the hellish cuisine.

The group worked together, and in a short time, they had put together a passable dinner. Misaka Mikoto was indeed as she said, quite skilled in this area, and the Japanese Honzen cuisine she made was beautiful and exquisite, which refreshed Shen He's understanding of the Railgun.

But it seemed Misaka Mikoto was also proficient in embroidery... It was a little hard to imagine.

Besides, what Ryogi Shiki made was quite characteristic of her, a plate of boiled white radish, and Shen He could be sure that nothing but salt was added.

"Because I haven't done it before, the simpler ones are less likely to be inedible."

Ryogi Shiki took a bite herself, then pushed the plate towards Shen He, and though she didn't say anything, her meaning was already very clear in her eyes.

Shen He picked up a piece, and his eyes lit up.

"Not bad, not bad. Not too soft, not too hard, just the right amount of salt. The daikon radish itself has a sweet and spicy flavor."

"After all, it's a high-grade ingredient."

Ryogi Shiki chuckled lightly.

Then, her smile momentarily froze, surprised by her own current joyful mood.

"Master." Violet also gently tugged at Shen He's sleeve, holding up the cake she had made with both hands. Her gaze was a little shy, adding a touch more cuteness.

"It's delicious." Shen He directly stuffed a large piece of bread into his mouth. It was actually a bit burnt, but just watching the beautiful Violet eat made him feel it was delicious.

Speaking of which, Violet really likes strawberry cake…

While Shen He was enjoying his own happiness here, Steve and the others were about to start their work for the day.

Today was different from the previous few days because a large group of students had joined the logistics team, making Skye and the others a bit nervous.

The logistics center allowed them to observe every move of the students.

"Captain, a robbery has occurred in the alleyway of the Ninth District. There are four criminals, all armed with handguns."

"Understood." Steve responded and glanced at the others. "Quicksilver, go handle it. Don't forget to restrain the criminals and then notify the police."

Quicksilver nodded and started running at high speed.

This was already the fourth day of nighttime operations. To improve efficiency, some minor crimes were spread out. Pietro was the only Guardian capable of perfectly handling four gun-wielding criminals alone, so he sometimes acted independently.

"Captain, there are two groups of people, a total of thirteen, suspected of illegal transactions in the demolition apartment building in the Sixth District."

"The Sixth District... Quake, go over there through the air, don't expose yourself, and wait for orders upon arrival." Steve straddled his motorcycle, with Wanda sitting behind him. "Determine the fastest route."

"Understood."

The logistics center was constantly collecting crime information from various cameras, police systems, hotlines, and so on, and then determining the optimal route.

This optimal route wasn't simply the shortest distance; it had to take into account the actual road conditions, avoid busy, congested streets, and even the possibility of small incidents needing to be resolved along the way. The students experienced for the first time that behind the glorious efficiency of heroes, there was also a large and excellent team serving them.

"Captain, a fire has broken out at a bar in the Third District."

At this moment, the notification from the logistics center suddenly became more urgent.

"Third District? That's quite far." The intern students looked at the map and couldn't help but start discussing.

"That's right, at the captain's speed, even taking the shortest route, it will take at least an hour."

"And it's a fire. Haven't there been a lot of fires in Manhattan lately?"

The students felt a tense atmosphere as the large screen in front of them began to synchronize the fire scene.

From the footage, the fire had already spread throughout the entire bar. Thick smoke billowed out, and people were constantly running out. The scene was filled with screams and the crackling sounds of flames. At this rate, by the time Steve arrived in half an hour, the surrounding buildings would probably be mostly burned down too.

"How long until the fire department arrives at the earliest?" Steve's voice sounded very calm.

This calm voice came from the channel, which calmed down the students' commotion.

"This bar's location is tricky!" The logistics director took over the call. "It's right in the center of three fire departments. No matter which one comes, it'll take at least an hour."

An hour was almost the longest possible time for the fire department to arrive, and that was without considering potential roadblocks.

"This should be arson," Harry said quietly beside Parker.

They were assigned to the same department for their internship, the Guardians' route planning department.

"Is it because of the location?" Parker also asked in a low voice.

"Not entirely," Harry shook his head. "It's a rather large bar, and given its special location, the fire safety facilities would definitely be given special attention. But look, none of the emergency fire hoses on site were pulled from inside. This indicates the fire spread extremely quickly; there wasn't even time to use the fire safety facilities."

Parker couldn't help but feel a little admiration. He hadn't noticed such details at all.

What he didn't know was that when Harry saw the scene, a very strange thought popped into his head: if he were the arsonist, how would he set the fire?

By thinking from the other side's perspective, he was naturally able to see many details.

"Wow—"

At this moment, exclamations suddenly came from all around.

It was on the big screen. Steve's motorcycle suddenly transformed, its wheels turning to face the ground, and it actually spewed flames and flew into the air.

"This is just too cool." Parker couldn't help but exclaim as well. "This motorcycle uses Iron Man's Arc Reactor technology."

Currently, only Tony's Arc Reactor can provide the power needed for this small equipment to fly smoothly using jet propulsion.

"Why didn't he use it like this from the start?" Harry couldn't help but slip into the role of the antagonist. "I get it, because of the size and weight it can carry, this kind of flight consumes a huge amount of energy and can't last long."

In fact, that's exactly what Harry said.

Tony indeed wasn't willing to design a whole suit of armor specifically for Steve, and Steve didn't need a suit of armor to fight anyway. The only application of Tony's technology on this motorcycle was the Arc Reactor; the rest was designed by S.H.I.E.L.D. technicians. Although it was also advanced and precise, it was, after all, a preliminary version because the design time was limited.

So, it could only maintain flight for about an hour, for emergencies.

And now, it was an emergency.

"Captain, we've received first-hand information. There are at least twenty or thirty people trapped inside the bar, and the fire has begun to spread on both sides."

"Understood." Steve's voice was still as calm as ever.

Sitting behind the motorcycle, Wanda used her abilities, letting her red telekinesis cut through the air pressure, and the speed suddenly increased.

A journey that originally took an hour was now shortened to just ten minutes!

"Captain!" The voice of the young lady from the logistics center suddenly chimed in, "Another fire has broken out in the Eighth District! The firefighters are also unable to get there in time!"

"Again!?"

"This, this is too coincidental!"

"This is definitely premeditated!"

This time, even the other students realized something was amiss.

It was still possible for several fires to break out on the same day, but it was clearly abnormal for each of them to appear in a place farthest from the fire department.

Thinking back to the previous arson attempts that had been made public, everyone immediately thought of the arsonist who was still at large.

This was a blatant provocation! A provocation to The Guardians from the arsonist!

"What do we do?" Parker was also getting anxious.

The Guardians only had four members, and two of them were already occupied elsewhere, leaving only Captain America and Scarlet Witch, and they were also quite far apart.

Fires were a race against time! The longer it took, the more the damage would increase!

Parker wished he could get to the scene immediately!

I've been a bit busy these past few days, only having time to write at night 2333. It turns out that when I'm not busy, I should save up some drafts.
