Chapter 78 - The Villain's Awakening

Shen He didn't need to say anything more after that.

In the power dynamic between Chaldea and Attilan, Chaldea held the advantage.

History had proven countless times that isolation would never lead to progress.

And Chaldea could not only help Black Bolt quell the rebellion, but also assist him in reforming Attilan's system, even providing them with opportunities for peaceful communication with Earth—something Black Bolt had always wanted but couldn't achieve.

"Hey, Captain." An agent approached Steve and whispered, "Is this how Chaldea operates? That's really cool."

If it were S.H.I.E.L.D. facing a foreign nation with a majority of superpowered individuals, they wouldn't be able to negotiate so openly like Chaldea.

This disparity stemmed from the difference in power. Shen He seemed even more familiar with their country than their own king and wasn't at all concerned about any threat.

"I'm a newcomer to Chaldea, just like you," Steve said, turning his head slightly. "So, listen quietly and get used to it."

Steve was indeed slowly getting a feel for the organization of Chaldea, using his own eyes and personal involvement.

While Black Bolt carefully considered Shen He's words, on Attilan on the moon, Maximus was also making preparations.

The first step was to levy an army.

"Whether you possess powerful abilities or are just ordinary, you will all change your dull lives." Maximus stood on the high platform of the palace, looking down at the gathered people. "I know that many of you have doubts and misunderstandings about this war. But, freedom will inevitably require sacrifice. I have sacrificed everything for Attilan. Do you think I wanted to lose my family, my loved ones, even sending people to hunt down my only remaining relative?"

"Believe me, everything I have done has caused me immense pain, but—"

"Attilan's rigid and outdated system must change. We are powerful Inhumans and should not hide away in this barren land and struggle! Earth has countless food and resources, yet my brother only wants to exploit his people."

"Now, it's time to take back what should have belonged to Attilan! Through war!"

"Attilan and we will become incomparably rich and powerful because of this!"

Facing Maximus's impassioned, up-and-down speech, the people below showed polarized attitudes.

A portion of them shouted loudly, celebrating and cheering, believing they were finally liberated from their monotonous and arduous lives.

The other portion remained silent. Most of them were Inhumans with powerful abilities and respected positions.

Only those dissatisfied with their lives would think of changing them.

After finishing his speech, Maximus strode back to his palace.

"Talpo," he said to his assistant beside him as he walked, "Did you see the looks in those people's eyes? Those nobles, the members of the Genetic Council! Even now! They still refuse to support me, they are still waiting for Black Bolt! Even though I am already their king!"

"I think..." Talpo lowered his head under Maximus's anger, "They are just worried about war."

"Worried about war?"

Maximus stopped in his tracks, turning to glare at his assistant.

"Is that really what you think? No! There's nothing to fear from war. We are Inhumans, we possess noble genes! We are gods to those humans! The only reason those old fogeys won't support me is because I don't have Black Bolt's strength! They are the ones to blame for this rigid system!"

What Maximus hated most were those pitying looks.

If he possessed powerful abilities, he should have become king directly, and none of this would have happened!

"My King,

Perhaps there are other ways." Talpo trembled. "The only way is for me to undergo a second Terrigenesis." Maximus strode back towards the palace.

"But, King." Talpo hurried to catch up. "Undergoing two Terrigenesis transformations is strictly forbidden. It is said to be extremely dangerous, and the Genetic Council members will definitely not agree, even if you are the King."

"If we can't get the support of the nobles and those with powerful abilities, the war against Earth will also be dangerous. I am prepared to sacrifice my life for Attilan," Maximus said, unmoved. "As for the Genetic Council, I don't even care about my life anymore, so why should I care about them?"

Possessing such formidable abilities was nearing the point of becoming Maximus's obsession.

His brother was incapable of doing anything right, even killing their parents, yet he effortlessly gained the throne and everything he desired simply because of his overwhelming power. Meanwhile, Maximus only received sympathetic glances. This vast disparity tormented him day and night.

Even now, after gaining the throne, he still had to endure those looks!

This snapped the last thread of restraint within Maximus!

He was willing to do anything to obtain power!

At the same time, on Earth, Black Bolt finally made a decision.

"After this is over, I will hand Maximus over to you for disposal," Black Bolt signed. "You're right; he won't give up his goal of attacking Earth."

Making a choice between betraying his own brother and the future of Attilan wasn't particularly difficult. Although Black Bolt felt a twinge of heartache at the prospect of losing his only blood relative, he still had his wife, his cousin, and his loyal subordinates who trusted him.

"Don't worry."

Shen He smiled, offering a gesture of goodwill.

"If he truly poses no threat, we'll alter his memories. Then, we'll exile him to a small country, allowing him to live out his life as an ordinary person. We'll do it as a favor, considering our personal relationship."

Scarlet Witch, Wanda, couldn't help but shudder. Her gaze at Shen He was like looking at a demon.

Altering memories... The memory-altering surgery she'd seen in Coulson's mind was crueler than the world's most terrifying torture.

But Black Bolt was very grateful, repeatedly making gestures to express his gratitude.

"Now then," Shen He looked at the captives around them, "Steve, could you please take these prisoners back? It's best to use tranquilizers on the dangerous ones. We'll go help Blackagar Boltagon quell the rebellion and be back soon."

"No problem." Steve nodded.

He wasn't a warmonger, and the task of guarding was equally important.

"Then, Big Dog, take us to Attilan."

Shen He lowered his faceplate, and blue lights shone from the eye areas.
