Chapter 512 - Key

Major Lex wanted to ask Elana what a true noble was, but he restrained himself. After all, the time and place weren't suitable, and the question would make him seem shallow.

However, Elana thoughtfully began to introduce, "Viscount Yelise's father passed away two years ago from illness, and he inherited the title and Family fortune."

"Their Family has many investments in Backlund; they have a presence in industries like banking, securities, shipping, and coal. Last year, Viscount Yelise even established the Backlund Children's Critical Illness Foundation, providing some security for impoverished families who can't afford medical treatment."

"He himself is very fond of the occult. For the past two years, he has been gathering like-minded individuals and holding similar gatherings. On a side note, he is an admirer of Emperor Roselle. Every year, he allocates a sum of money to purchase items related to Emperor Roselle."

Major Lex was a little surprised to hear this. Was this Emperor Roselle's little fanboy?

Thinking of this, Major Lex carefully observed this noble.

Viscount Yelise was of average height, dressed in a black classical robe with his hood down, revealing a head of thick, dark brown, slightly curly hair and fair skin. A smiling brass mask covered his face, so his features were hidden, only his green eyes visible.

The Viscount looked around and chuckled twice with a deep voice, saying, "Not long ago, I visited an exhibition at the Royal Museum, an exhibition about Emperor Roselle."

"Among the exhibits of the Emperor's daily life items, I saw the velvet quilt he had slept under and the gold-inlaid glass vessels he used for drinking wine."

"I also saw the first flush toilet in the modern sense. It shimmered with a golden Light, and its surface was carved with ornate, artistic patterns."

"That's right, this flush toilet was invented by Emperor Roselle."

Major Lex's mouth twitched slightly. A golden flush toilet? The Emperor was quite willful.

Viscount Yelise cleared his throat and said, "Everyone, in many of the tools and things we use today, we can see the shadow of Emperor Roselle. There are many mysteries in the life of this Emperor that we cannot imagine. What kind of Genius must he have been to invent so many practical items like him?"

"And among the things related to the Emperor, one thing deeply fascinated me, and that is the Emperor's notes."

"Most people who enjoy the occult should know that Emperor Roselle created a mysterious set of symbols that no one has been able to decipher to this day. Many historians and archaeologists believe that the notes formed by these symbols should record the Emperor's most unknown secrets."

"Some occult enthusiasts even believe that these symbols themselves possess incredible magic."

"Unfortunately, the original manuscripts of the Emperor's notes have been lost. What can be found now are scattered notes, copied by later generations."

"Even so, I still have a strong interest in these notes. If any of you have collected Emperor Roselle's notes, please be sure to sell them to me. I will give you a satisfactory price."

Someone chuckled, "We'd like to, but we don't know how to verify the authenticity of Emperor Roselle's notes."

Viscount Yelise chuckled softly from behind his mask, "In that case, perhaps I can help you. I happen to have collected a few pages of the Emperor's notes, and I will share them with everyone now."

"The symbols created by the Emperor are very special. Once you've seen them, you won't forget them. You can use these symbols to judge the authenticity of the notes."

He clapped his hands softly, and a waiter carefully brought out several pages of parchment. At Viscount Yelise's instruction, they were handed to the first participant on the right and then passed around clockwise among the participants.

Hearing that he could read the Emperor's notes, Major Lex's spirits lifted. Even if he couldn't memorize all of them, just remembering one page would allow him to offer it to Mr. The Fool tomorrow and earn contributions.

But when the notes finally reached his hands, Major Lex was stunned.

The domed roof dreams of being wet and crude.

What is this?

I must be seeing gibberish.

Major Lex was 100% sure that these were not the Emperor's notes at all, but rather someone had imitated Chinese, haphazardly piecing together some characters that conveyed no information whatsoever.

He flipped through all the so-called notes and confirmed that Viscount Yelise had bought fakes.

Next to him, Elana looked at Major Lex curiously. The subtle change in Major Lex's eyes when he received the notes had not escaped the observant girl.

Major Lex just paused for a moment?

Why did he react that way? Could he understand the Emperor's notes? Could he decipher the meaning of those symbols and know some of the Emperor's secrets, which is why he showed that expression?

Elana watched Major Lex flip through the later notes and became even more convinced that she had guessed correctly.

Major Lex quickly passed the notes to the next participant, feeling a little disappointed and losing interest in the rest of the gathering. These people's understanding of the occult was still very shallow; not to mention Major Lex, even Harribel was distracted.

Two hours later, the gathering ended, and the participants left the room one after another.

Finally, only Viscount Yelise remained in the room.

He had no intention of leaving, as if waiting for something. A moment later, the door from which the Viscount had emerged earlier opened, and the tall woman who had participated in the gathering returned to the living room.

"Esteemed lady, it seems that no Genius capable of deciphering Emperor Roselle's symbols appeared at this gathering either," Viscount Yelise bowed deeply, his attitude respectful, as if facing a queen.

The woman, still masked, spoke in a soft but emotionless voice, "No, perhaps there was one."

Viscount Yelise was startled, "There was one?"

"If anyone could decipher the Emperor's symbols, he would discover that what I displayed were merely drafts randomly combined from those symbols, not notes at all."

"But no one raised any questions."

The masked woman said lightly, "Perhaps he didn't want to expose this secret."

Viscount Yelise asked softly, "Lady, who was that person?"

The mysterious and noble lady looked at a candle in the room. The candlelight suddenly flared up, then outlined the figures of Major Lex and his three companions. The lady pointed at Major Lex and said, "When he saw the notes, his eyes changed, as if he was full of expectation, but then his expectation was dashed, mixed with a slight sense of disappointment."

"In other words, he might understand how to decipher the symbols on the notes. Therefore, when he discovered that they were not what he had imagined, he experienced a psychological letdown and felt disappointed."

"He is very likely the 'key' I am looking for."
