Chapter 168 - Devil May Cry

"What, did you see something you liked?" Cromwell noticed Lex's unusual behavior and whispered, asking.

Lex sat down and nodded, saying, "I did see an item I liked."

He had taken a liking to the mystical item crafted by Emperor Roselle. Regardless of what kind of item it was, its ability to purify the undead and target evil Wraiths was precisely what Lex urgently needed.

Although he was about to advance to Pyromaniac and would gain the ability to manipulate flames, he didn't know how effective fire would be against opponents from the death field.

It was always good to have an extra item with a specific countermeasure.

Moreover, over two thousand pounds, while expensive, was still within his acceptable range.

Cromwell chuckled and said, "You can look around some more and then buy them all together. Of course, if you're worried about something being bought before you, you can also buy it now."

Lex immediately asked, "How do I buy it?"

He had withdrawn 3,000 pounds in cash from the bank that morning, specifically for the purpose of attending secret gathering. Now, he was fully capable of buying the item and naturally didn't want someone else to get there first.

Cromwell didn't answer, picking up a small bell and gently shaking it. A servant in a tailcoat immediately walked over.

"How may I help you?"

Cromwell patted Lex's shoulder: "My friend here has taken a liking to something."

The servant nodded, took out a pen and paper: "You can write your request on the paper and give it to me. After I bring you the item you want, you can put the cash in an envelope and give it to me. This way, the transaction can be completed."

He said, and then produced an envelope.

Lex took the paper and pen, wrote down Emperor Roselle's item, and then handed it to the servant.

After the servant left, Lex subtly turned his body, using the table and chairs for cover, and quietly slipped 2,100 pounds into the envelope.

Instantly, the envelope bulged.

A moment later, the servant in the tailcoat returned and placed a long wooden box on the table, smiling: "This contains the item you wished to purchase. Please rest assured, no one dares to cheat at this gathering."

"Please wait a moment."

Lex took out his Seer coin. Using the servant to block most people's view, he performed a divination on the item in the wooden box.

Only after seeing the wizard hat pattern facing up did he confidently hand the envelope filled with banknotes to the servant.

After completing the transaction, Lex took the wooden box. He noticed that the box had exquisite carvings, was inlaid with yellow crystals, and had a seal, indicating that no one had opened it.

Cromwell let out a soft chuckle from behind his mask: "Congratulations, you bought what you wanted as soon as you arrived. Good luck."

Lex was in a great mood and nodded: "What about you?"

Cromwell looked at another blackboard: "There's a Sheriff formula for sale here. It's a bit expensive, and I don't have enough cash. It seems I'll have to wait until next time to try my luck."

Sheriff is the potion name for the Arbiter pathway's Sequence 8. Lex, hearing this, immediately asked, "How much are you short? I'll make up the difference for you."

Cromwell glanced at him, didn't decline, and nodded, "Alright, I'm short 150 pounds."

Lex immediately took out 150 pounds and handed it to the Arbiter. Cromwell then called the servant again and wrote down what he needed.

At this moment, Lex felt another gaze directed at him from the single sofa. But this time, it didn't have the condescending, scrutinizing quality of before.

He looked back and saw the person in the black robe raising a glass of wine towards him from afar, as if in greeting.

Lex nodded, acknowledging the greeting, then looked back at the two blackboards.

'Infant's Cry, flower, 200 pounds.'

'Dried adult black-spotted frog, 245 pounds.'

'Introduction to Mysticism, book, 10 pounds.'

'Crystal Heart of a Blazing Bird, 500 pounds.'

Suddenly, Lex's breathing quickened.

Crystal Heart of a Blazing Bird!

The main materials for a Pyromaniac!

Lex unhesitatingly picked up the bell, summoned the servant, and wrote down his needs. He also purchased the 'adult black-spotted frog' to create a diversion.

Thus, when he and Cromwell left the Queen's Borough, Lex's wallet was flat.

Including the 150 pounds he lent to the Arbiter, Lex spent around 3,000 pounds tonight.

"Money really goes fast," he sighed softly.

Originally.

His anonymous account had over seven thousand pounds.

First, he took out four thousand pounds for the Tingen University laboratory as research funds; tonight, he spent another three thousand pounds, leaving only a pitiful few dozen pounds in his account.

It seems he needs to quickly sell those Sea Serpent Gang jewels to get cash. Otherwise, he'll have to use the money from another account.

Hmm, since he's already in Backlund.

Why not look for some investments?

Walking along the street, Lex cleared his throat: "Do you know any friends who do investments?"

Cromwell looked at him: "You want to make money. If you want to make money, you can go to a bar. I know a bar where you can get commissions."

Lex smiled and said, "Believe me, my friend. Investments in business yield returns faster than taking commissions. I happen to have some funds here, and I want to make them more valuable."

Cromwell shrugged: "In that case, you should leave a message in the newspaper. Usually, there are various small advertisements seeking investments in newspapers."

"Also, you can invest in stocks and securities, but these things are said to have quite a bit of risk."

"Oh, that's right."

The Arbiter seemed to recall something: "I know a fellow, he's a lawyer. At the same time, he's also a 'Lawyer'."

Lex paused, then understood: "You mean, he's a Beyonder?"

Cromwell nodded and said: "People like us always get into all sorts of lawsuits. Therefore, we usually need a lawyer. And in Backlund, we usually go to that fellow."

"Besides helping people like us with lawsuits, he's also skilled in business investment, assisting clients in buying or selling shares and such."

"He has a wide network, fair fees, and is trustworthy."

Lex nodded: "Since you also say he's trustworthy, I have no problem then. Will you introduce me tomorrow?"

"Alright."

Back at his residence on Evergreen Street, Lex closed the door, placed the ornate wooden box on the table, broke the seal, and pushed open the lid.

Inside the box, a velvet cushion lay, and upon it rested a curved weapon. This type of weapon was extremely rare, even unheard of, in the Loen Kingdom and across both the Northern and Southern Continents.

Because, it was a freaking Tachi!

Lex's mouth twitched.

Tachi, Devil May Cry, Emperor, how chuunibyou must you be?

However.

Chuunibyou aside.

This weapon was still exquisitely crafted. The pure white scabbard had two golden rings, interwoven with ribbons for easy carrying.

The tip of the scabbard, the scabbard itself, and the top of the hilt were all adorned with golden ornaments.

Aside from anything else, just prying out and selling these golden ornaments would fetch a considerable sum.

Considering this weapon's ability to purify the undead, the Emperor calling it ''Devil May Cry'' actually seemed quite fitting.

Next, Lex summoned the 'mysterious book' and spent 15 dimensional crystals to appraise ''Devil May Cry''.

He didn't know why, but this time the vision he saw was very blurry, only vaguely showing a figure crafting something.

Moreover, the vision was very brief, almost a fleeting glimpse, and Lex quickly withdrew from that dream-like sensation.

Subsequently, lines of appraisal information appeared on the page.

'Devil May Cry: A mystical item personally crafted by Emperor Roselle, corresponding to the 'Sun' Pathway, possessing the ability to purify the undead and strike at evil Wraiths. Its specific abilities are...'
