Chapter 145 - The Ghost Is Still There

"Woof!"

"Go, Bloody Jack!"

"Bite it to death!"

As soon as Lex entered, he heard dog barks and people's frantic shouts. He recalled that the original novel mentioned this tavern had a 'dog catches rat' gambling game.

It seemed a fierce 'match' was currently underway.

Lex wasn't interested in this. He bypassed the huddled patrons and went to the Bartender.

The Bartender behind the counter was a young girl with a high ponytail, vibrant eye makeup, and lips as red as fire.

Although her looks weren't exceptionally beautiful, she exuded youthful energy, especially with a few buttons at her collar undone, revealing a deep cleavage.

If it were before, Lex probably would have taken a few more glances. But having seen the Witch Clemons a few days ago, women like this could no longer make him look twice.

"What do you need?" The girl's voice was quite clear. She put down a glass, scanning Lex's pockets, trying to discern if he had money.

"A Nanville Beer." Lex pressed his hat, his voice low.

The Bartender deftly picked up a large glass: "4 pence, thank you."

Lex directly pulled out a 1-pound bill and placed it on the counter. When the female Bartender poured the beer and placed it in front of Lex, she was startled.

"Sir, that's too large a denomination. It's hard for me to give you change."

"No need, the extra is your tip, as long as you answer some questions for me." Lex took the beer and took a sip. Tsk, the taste was a bit bland, watered down?

A certain Light flickered in the female Bartender's eyes. She picked up the bill, tucked it into the deep cleavage of her collar, and leaned slightly forward, making the contents of her collar faintly visible: "I get off at eleven. My place or yours?"

Lex almost spat out the beer he had just drunk: "No, that's not what I want to ask. I want to know if two new faces came to your bar last night."

Lex described the two men who had been looking for him.

The female Bartender let out a slightly disappointed 'Oh': "I know them. Those two are not to be trifled with. Holm got a bit drunk yesterday and provoked them. Now poor Holm has to lie in the hospital for a week."

"Why are you asking about them? Am I not more interesting than them?"

Lex coughed: "Did they come tonight?"

"Over there." The female Bartender pointed to the corner on the west side of the bar, then, still not giving up, said, "How about I take you to a more fun place tonight? I can call two, no, three girls to come along."

Her gaze never left Lex's pocket.

Lex didn't quite hear what she said and turned his head to look in the direction the girl pointed. Sure enough, he immediately saw the two men who had previously sought him out at the Sea Monster Tavern.

They were still the same. Lex almost suspected that these two guys must have wardrobes full of identical clothes.

Just then, the taller one, Arthur, looked towards the counter, raised his hand, seemingly to call the Bartender, and suddenly met Lex's gaze.

Lex immediately lowered his head, deliberately showing an eagerness to avoid, pulled down his felt hat, and quickly walked towards the door.

Arthur suddenly stood up, pointed towards the door, and exclaimed: "It's him!"

The bald Matt had just finished his beer and looked sharply towards the door, just in time to see Lex's figure pushing the door open and stepping out.

"Go!"

He threw down money for the drinks and rushed towards the door with his companion. When they pushed the door open, they found Lex jogging around the corner of Besik Street and turning into Champagne Street.

Lex walked very fast, but still at a normal person's pace, not sprinting with full force.

Having lived in Tingen for three weeks, Lex was quite familiar with the city. After exiting Champagne Street, he quickly identified the nearby streets and headed towards the outskirts of the city.

In a flash, he had arrived at the city's outskirts. Under the crimson moonlight, Lex's figure moved through a grove of trees.

Suddenly.

A scene appeared in his mind.

Arthur, tall and dressed in formal wear, suddenly emerged from behind a large tree in front, his eyes gleaming with a crazed look, and he raised his fist to smash it towards his nose!

At the same time, a needle-like pain suddenly appeared on the back of Lex's hand, as if several steel needles had been brutally plunged into his hand.

He grunted, but endured it, and quickly pulled out Blood Praise, pointing it towards the spot where Arthur appeared.

Just then, a tall figure emerged from behind the tree.

The man's eyes gleamed with a crazed look, and his expression was ferocious, seemingly enjoying inflicting pain on others. But before he could even swing his hand, he saw a dark muzzle pointing at him.

Arthur's movements had to stop, and then he watched a mocking smile slowly spread across Lex's lips. This smile made him wish he could tear Lex to shreds immediately.

"Let him go!"

Lex heard a strange accent behind him, a mixture of the local Loen flavor and other regional tones, making it sound very awkward.

Needless to say.

The one behind him must be the bald Matt.

Lex remained unmoved, still maintaining his mocking smile: "You two are truly persistent. You've followed me all the way from Enki Town to Tingen. What exactly do you want?"

This was one of the reasons Lex led them to the outskirts.

Although Arthur dared not make a move, he sneered and said firmly: "You don't know what you've provoked, nor are you qualified to know. You should put down your gun and cooperate with us. That way, you might still have a chance to see tomorrow's sun."

"Is that so?"

Lex quickly fired a shot at his thigh, then, before Arthur could react, pressed the muzzle against his chin.

"Damn it!"

"You actually dared to shoot!"

Arthur and Matt spoke at the same time.

The former cursed Lex profusely in pain, while the latter cocked the hammer and shouted: "Don't move, or don't blame me for being impolite."

Lex said indifferently: "Your threat is truly weak and powerless. Could it be that you're just as soft in certain other matters?"

Matt's face turned beet red: "Listen, Duke. We don't want to make things difficult for you, but you have to tell me, back in Enki Town, did Bridge give you anything?"

"Bridge? Who's that? I haven't heard of him." Lex shook his head, feigning ignorance.

Arthur, clutching his thigh, cried out: "You're lying! Where did you get those Shadow Gauntlets on your hand? Did Bridge give them to you!"

"You know how Bridge got that item? Because it was stolen from us!"

Well, did I buy stolen goods?

Lex shrugged: "So what? Even if he stole it, go find him."

"Now that you mention it, I do recall such a person, but my contact with him was limited to these Gauntlets."

Matt said in a deep voice: "But you were there when he died on that ship!"
