Chapter 128 - Signing is imminent

"Sir."

Bodyguard Gru's voice interrupted Lex's thoughts. He looked up to see the ice cream-loving man whisper,

"You have visitors, the manager and lawyer from Max Investment Company. Should I ask them to wait a bit longer?"

"No need, let them in."

Lex put down his newspaper and ate a piece of bread, then heard footsteps. Soon, the investment company's manager and lawyer had arrived in the living room.

"Good morning, gentlemen, would you like to join me for breakfast?" Lex didn't get up, merely put down his cutlery, spread his hands, and smiled as he asked.

"Thank you for your kindness, Mr. Lex, but we've already had breakfast. Please, help yourself." The investment company's manager responded with a polite smile, then sat on the sofa near the dining table with the lawyer.

Lex popped a mushroom into his mouth: "Then I won't be polite."

The two from the investment company reported on the work of the past few days. They had already drafted the contract, which was very detailed, clarifying the shareholding ratio with Pigeon Company and emphasizing Lex's decision-making power and other rights.

Additionally, they had already conducted a risk assessment, and their risk analyst believed it was a very worthwhile investment project.

Taking the contract, Lex, who was completely ignorant of law, especially the law of the Loen Kingdom, pretended to read through it page by page, then suggested some minor modifications.

Finally, Lex said: "You've done very well. I will contact Pigeon Company, and once we set a signing time, I will inform you."

The investment company's manager stood up, extended his hand, and said: "Then we will return and await your good news."

After seeing the two off, Lex called Matthew and asked him to first go to Daffodil Street to contact Kyle, instructing the former hunter to meet at the usual cafe at ten o'clock in the morning. He then sent the butler to visit Luke to schedule a time for signing the contract.

After doing all this, Lex stood up and said to Gru: "We're going to the South District."

South District, Sandy's home.

Today, people were continuously entering and exiting Sandy's home, holding flowers and looking sorrowful, likely Sandy's neighbors and friends.

According to the customs of the Loen Kingdom, Sandy's body had already been buried. He wondered if his son would be adopted by relatives or enter an orphanage?

Lex's carriage stopped at the intersection. He watched the house from afar inside the carriage, then took out a stack of banknotes from his wallet.

Ranging from soli to pound, totaling about twenty pounds, he handed them to Gru and said: "You go in on my behalf to offer condolences to the family. As for this money, say it's what you owed the deceased. Your main task is to inquire about one thing: I want to know what arrangements have been made for the deceased's son."

Gru didn't ask why, took the money, nodded, and got out of the carriage.

A moment later, the bodyguard returned and said: "I've already inquired, sir. The deceased's child has been adopted by his uncle, and they will be leaving Tingen."

"Is that so…"

Lex breathed a sigh of relief: "Let's go to Sunflower Cafe."

On the way to see Kyle, Lex specifically returned to the hotel to bring the parrot, so Kyle would know that he was taking good care of the bird.

In the cafe, when Lex entered, he saw the former hunter.

He was wearing a cheap formal suit, looking at the street through the window with a smile on his lips.

Lex walked over. The parrot left his shoulder, flapping its wings to land on the table, causing a stir.

A waiter came up and politely said: "Sir, please control your pet."

"I will, I'm very sorry."

Lex glared fiercely at the parrot, which shrunk its head, looked left and right, and began to play dumb.

Kyle couldn't help but laugh and said: "How did you do that? You know, this fellow wasn't this well-behaved when it was at my house."

"You should call me Great Dragon, you impolite and rude hunter!" The parrot extended a wing and pointed its wingtip at Kyle's nose.

Of course, it kept its voice low, because Lex had said when they left that if anyone found out it wasn't like a parrot, it would spend the night in the birdcage with the Shadow Gauntlets.

Lex sat down, casually pushed the bird to the window, and smiled: "It's simple, occasional rewards, occasional punishments."

"It seems entrusting it to you was truly the right decision. Oh, I've already obtained information about another auxiliary Material."

Kyle lowered his voice and said: "Remember, it's '5 grams of Crimson Flower Nectar'."

Then he returned to his normal volume: "My friend said he'll be back in two weeks at the earliest, and no later than a month."

Glancing at the bird by the window, Kyle smiled: "Therefore, you only need to endure it for a little longer. When he returns, he will tell me information about a main Material. And I will help you inquire about clues for other materials. I believe he should know something."

"That's truly very kind of you, Mr. Kyle," Lex said sincerely.

Kyle shook his head: "No, compared to what you've done for me, this is insignificant."

"How is Ms. Lanci's health?"

"She's recovering very well. I think once she's a bit better, and after my friend arrives, I'll move with her to another street to find a better environment."

Kyle's eyes sparkled with anticipation for the future: "I didn't have the means before, but now, because of you, I have the ability to choose."

"You will both get better and better."

Lex also told him that the investment company had already drafted the contract, and once a signing time was set with Luke, they could officially begin cooperation.

An entire morning passed in a flash. Kyle declined Lex's invitation to lunch and returned to Daffodil Street.

Lex and the parrot got into the carriage, planning to go to an Intis restaurant for a change of taste.

In the carriage, the parrot flapped its wings, stood on Lex's shoulder, and said in a voice that Gru, facing them, couldn't hear: "Can I discuss something with you?"

Lex curiously glanced at the bird. For this parrot, speaking so seriously was a rare phenomenon.

He opened the window, letting the sounds of people outside flood into the carriage, then whispered: "What is it?"

The parrot said with some distress: "When are you going to get rid of that bronze mirror in the room? It's too noisy; it keeps me from sleeping well every night."

"Especially since there's another stupid bird in the cage, it just can't sleep quietly and always makes noise. Haven't you noticed I have dark circles under my eyes recently?"

Lex was stunned: "Bronze mirror? The one I bought, why haven't I heard any sound?"

"How can it be the same? You are just a Mortal, and I am a noble Dragon." The parrot proudly spread its wings, raised its head, and looked smug.

That bronze mirror still retained spirituality. Could it be because of this that this delusional, silly bird heard strange sounds?

But I don't feel anything at all. Is its spiritual intuition higher than mine?

Although a hunter's spiritual intuition isn't strong either, I'm actually not even as good as a bird, then...

Good thing I don't own a dog.

However, what pathway's potion did this thing drink after all?
