Chapter 106 - Making Good Use of Negative Effects

"No, don't look at me, don't come closer. Oh God, please get me out of this cursed place!"

The parrot flapped its wings in terror, flying everywhere as if avoiding a plague god.

Lex was first puzzled, then slapped his head: "How could I forget about it?"

The Shadow Gauntlets!

These gauntlets made animals feel disgusted; the higher an animal's spirituality, the more obvious the feeling. For a magical animal, the parrot's spirituality was clearly higher than that of ordinary animals, so this reaction was not surprising at all.

Lex suddenly thought of a way to use the negative effect.

He opened the birdcage and threatened, "Get in yourself, or I'll put it on your head!"

Lex shook the gauntlet on his hand.

The parrot tilted its head, not understanding. Lex smiled, took off the gauntlet, and threw it at it.

"Oh God, it was that!"

The magical animal's spirituality immediately made the parrot realize that the feeling of disgust came from the Shadow Gauntlets.

It frantically dodged, but Lex caught it. Seeing Lex pick up the gauntlet, the parrot shrieked, "Get it away from me! Oh God, how can there be such a disgusting thing in this world?"

"Shut up."

Lex stuffed it into the birdcage and slapped the gauntlet onto the cage: "If you behave and don't speak, I might consider finding you a playmate."

"If you keep squawking like this, you won't get anything to eat tomorrow, and I'll make it stay in the cage with you all day."

The parrot shrank back in fear to the back of the cage: "You truly are a demon! How can you treat a Dragon like this!"

The parrot, which had presumptuously upgraded itself to a 'Dragon', finally chose to compromise. It obediently shut its mouth, making itself look like an ordinary bird.

Only then did Lex put on the gauntlet and toss the birdcage into the washroom.

Elk Bar.

Entering the club hall, Lex's spirituality was immediately stirred. He looked towards the window in the hall, and the musician Richard put down his violin, making an inviting gesture.

Lex came to the window, and Richard whispered, "I've received your message, and I've secretly investigated. The problem is with a mirror in Helen's bedroom!"

"A mirror?" Lex looked at him, waiting for an explanation.

Richard picked up a glass of wine: "Yes, a mirror. Although I'm not a historian, I'm sure it's an item from the ancient Solomon Empire period."

Solomon Empire? An item from the Fourth Epoch?

Lex was slightly moved, then asked, "Is it a Beyonder item?"

Richard rubbed his chin: "It's certainly not an ordinary thing, but it doesn't have any overly special abilities. My guess is that it might have been owned by a powerful individual in ancient times, and some of that individual's spirituality remains, causing it to attract nearby souls."

"However, the spirituality on it is already very weak, and it will probably completely disappear in another year or two. And what it attracts are very weak souls; they can't even be called Wraiths."

So that's how it is.

Lex nodded slightly: "Leaving it as it is poses no harm."

"There's no harm, but Helen's mental state will worsen, and there's no guarantee that something bad won't be attracted. It's best to deal with that mirror as soon as possible."

Richard took a sip of the fine wine in his glass and looked at Lex.

Lex understood: "You want me to deal with that mirror?"

"Didn't you already investigate? Why don't you just take the mirror away directly?"

Richard smiled: "That would make Helen suspicious, and she would notice my existence, then we would have endless trouble. So I hope it can leave Helen in a reasonable way."

"For example, you buy it."

Lex didn't respond, simply spread his palm.

Richard was stunned for a moment: "What are you doing?"

"Where's the reward?"

"You really are a... pragmatic person." Richard sighed, "Remember that Beyonder gathering? If no one recommends you, even if you go, you won't be able to enter."

"I'll give you a letter of recommendation, is that enough?"

"That's enough."

He said so, but Lex's hand did not retract.

Richard's eyebrows furrowed: "Didn't I promise you a reward?"

"The letter of recommendation is the reward for running the errand. The money to buy the mirror should come from you, right?" Lex had no intention of making a losing deal.

Richard cleared his throat and took a step back: "Do I look like a businessman?"

Without waiting for Lex to answer, he continued: "I am a musician, an artist. What I pursue are all the beautiful notes in the world, a higher Realm of art."

"Do you think I have time to waste on worldly money games?"

Please don't make 'poor' sound so fresh and refined!

Even though Richard said that, Lex still didn't retract his hand and looked at him with a slightly Provocation gaze.

After a moment of stalemate, Richard sighed: "Alright, I'll give you one more thing."

He pulled a circular gold piece from his pocket. Lex noticed that the gold piece was engraved with various symbols and spiritual numbers.

This was a Charms!

"What is it?"

"It's a Charms of the 'Sun' pathway. You know ancient hermes, so you just need to say the word 'Sun' to activate it."

"It will release a strong Light, like the intense sunlight at noon. Within the range of the Light, things from the death Domain, like Living Corpses, Wraiths, etc., will all be purified and cleared."

Richard slapped it onto Lex's palm: "Tell me, will you buy that mirror?"

"After I buy it, how should I give it to you?" Lex unceremoniously put away this 'Sun Charms'.

Richard shook his head: "You figure it out; that way, I won't owe Helen anything."

He drained his glass of wine, picked up his violin, and left.

Lex turned to the bar counter and tapped on the table. The old man, who was taking a bottle of wine from a cabinet, glanced at him and said, "Your bounty should arrive tomorrow. After deducting the previous bar tab, there's still 2307 pounds."

"Okay, also, I'd like to find some work." Lex said, and realized that the potion residue had unconsciously digested a bit.

Is it because of the musician?

It seems his Sequence is indeed above mine. Perhaps, I should use him as material for Provocation?

"There is one."

Old Parker's voice brought Lex back to his senses: "A commission just received tonight, a father looking for his child who has been missing for two days."

Lex paused slightly: "Wait, we also accept missing person commissions?"

Mr. Parker poured a glass of wine and pushed it to another hunter: "Of course, it's not an ordinary commission. The client is still in the bar. If you're interested, you can go talk to him to understand the situation, then decide whether to accept it or not."
