Chapter 57 - Human Hearts Are Evil

The white fog spreading from Memorial Square was already nearing St. Witt's Church, which made Rodney, holding the blonde Ian outside the church, extremely anxious. He pounded on the door.

"Open the door, let us in."

"Let us in!" Ian also joined the shouting, nervously looking back.

Inside, the leader of the Black Bowties showed a disdainful smile: "A coward, a brat. It's not worth sacrificing our lives for such people."

"You all guard this place, no one is allowed to open the door."

At Doug's command, a dozen Black Bowtiess stepped forward, blocking the door, forcing the few Town residents who had wanted to protest to only shake their heads and sigh.

"What are you doing!" A loud voice rang out.

Bison strode forward, with church personnel following him.

The Baron pointed at Doug: "I order you to move aside immediately. Everyone is a resident of the Town; we should help each other. I will not allow such things to happen!"

The elderly Bishop Morgan also said: "The fog hasn't reached here yet, so opening the door poses no danger."

Bison then looked back at Kaosi. The Chief brought a few police officers in black-and-white checkered uniforms, who dispersed the Black Bowtiess, and only then was the door opened to let Rodney and Ian in.

No sooner had the door closed than the white fog arrived at the entrance, and with a sudden 'bang', the door shook violently, startling the women and children in the hall into screams.

Bishop Morgan quickly raised his hands to comfort them: "Everyone, don't panic. Our church is very sturdy and won't be easily damaged."

No sooner had he finished speaking than a window on the wall by the door suddenly shattered, and stained glass sprayed into the church with a crash, allowing the white fog to slowly seep in.

People recoiled in fear, moving far away from that window. Just then, a little girl pointed outside the window and said: "Mommy, there's someone outside."

Everyone looked, and indeed, in the hazy world outside the window, a figure gradually approached the window. A moment later, an old woman with disheveled hair emerged from the white fog. Her face was sinister, her figure small and thin, and her eyes held a certain indescribable fanaticism.

Kaosi immediately recognized her: "Isn't that Paris? How did she escape from prison?"

"How is she unharmed? Don't the monsters in the fog attack her?" Someone noticed the anomaly and exclaimed.

The old woman outside the window then shouted loudly: "Sinners, do you think you are safe hiding in the church?"

"Look, this is your retribution for capturing me! I told you, I am a favored one of the night, I am the spokesperson of the Goddess!"

"But you didn't believe me. Now, the Goddess has sent down divine punishment. She told me that all of you will die today!"

"If you don't want to die, if you want to beg for the Goddess's forgiveness, then open the door."

"Come out, come out and confess! That way you still have a chance!"

Paris shouted excitedly, her hands raised high. As if to cheer her on, an inhuman roar echoed in the white fog, putting immense pressure on the people in the church.

"Is she really a favored one of the Goddess?"

"I can't believe it, but she certainly wasn't attacked in the fog."

As people discussed animatedly, the Baron's dignified and loud voice rang out again.

"Don't listen to her nonsense, she's trying to mislead everyone! The benevolent Goddess would not treat her followers with such cruel methods!"

People looked at Bison, including Paris outside the window. When the old woman saw the Baron, her eyes immediately filled with resentment.

She stretched out her withered, claw-like hand, pointed at Bison, and shouted: "It's you! You are the father of demons, you are the breeding ground of evil! You are on the Goddess's list, you are unforgivable!"

"Hand him over! His blood, his Soul, can redeem you!"

Bang, bang, bang!

Several other windows of the church also shattered, and an inexplicable malice, accompanying the fog pouring into the church, spread towards the people.

Someone screamed, "Go out! I don't want to die, the Goddess wants you, hurry and go out, just save us."

Bison couldn't believe his ears and abruptly looked at the speaker.

Another old man said: "I don't want to die either. My daughter just had a baby, and I haven't even seen my grandson. Lord Baron, please save us."

At this point, Doug sneered: "Didn't the Sir just say that everyone should help each other? Well then, now, Mr. Baron, please save us."

"Yes, save us."

"Go out!"

"Go out!"

More and more voices demanded Bison leave, and some even dared to rush out and push Bison hard, which made people even more agitated and frenzied.

"Stop!"

A strong gust of wind suddenly swept through the church, making everyone unable to open their eyes. When they looked again, the Baroness was already standing beside her husband.

Amelia held her hands out, protecting her husband: "You can't do this!"

For some reason, people felt that the Baroness at that moment had an even greater aura than Bison.

They instinctively felt fear, lowered their heads, and dared not step forward.

Just then, gunshots rang out from outside the window, and people saw black-purple blood splattering in the fog behind Paris.

The startled old woman shrieked, covered her ears, and crouched down, showing no trace of the dignified demeanor of a favored one of the night.

Bang - bang - bang -

Gunshots rang out rhythmically, and three blood flowers bloomed consecutively in the white fog. Amidst those blood flowers, silver bullets were faintly visible.

The fog surged and swirled, and a roar like that of a wounded beast came from within. Suddenly, Paris was lifted from the ground.

The old woman seemed to sense something and cried out in panic: "No, no, no, Messenger, put me down, put me down."

Her clothes began to show constricting marks, which rapidly deepened. Paris was like she was entangled by an invisible giant python, the air in her lungs squeezed out.

Her eyes bulged, her mouth wide open, and she heard the fragile bones in her body shattering one by one.

The people in the church saw that after the old woman's hands and feet were already deformed, she was suddenly crushed by a huge force, and a mist of blood spurted from her small body.

Subsequently, that mist of blood roared and gathered, rolling into the white fog. Paris's shattered corpse then flew up and was thrown through the window, causing a chorus of screams.

Looking at the corpse still oozing blood on the ground, Bison whispered: "It seems your 'Goddess' doesn't favor you that much after all."

Just then, a figure flashed outside the window. Bison squinted slightly. He saw two men running towards Memorial Square.

One of them was wearing a police uniform, had brown hair, and was meticulously groomed. He seemed to be the Inspector named 'Lewis'.
