Chapter 117 - A Guardian Angel

One, two, three...

In the blink of an eye, dozens of hexagonal ice crystals, shimmering with a silvery-white glow, appeared out of thin air around Ryoma.

Inside each ice crystal, incredibly intricate magic patterns were etched, emitting faint spatial fluctuations.

"Go."

Ryoma waved his hand lightly.

Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!

Dozens of specially made ice crystals transformed into streaks of light, too fast for the naked eye to catch, shooting out from the shattered window and flying towards all directions of the Royal Capital.

They cut through the night sky, either embedding themselves into the tops of towering buildings or landing in certain districts.

After doing all this, Ryoma's gaze turned towards the area where the flames burned most fiercely.

That was the commercial district of the Royal Capital, densely populated and filled with buildings. At this moment, it was already a sea of fire.

"Well then, let's begin."

No sooner had he finished speaking than his figure suddenly transformed into countless ice-blue specks of light, instantly dissipating from where he stood. It was as if he had never existed.

Charmy, hiding under the tablecloth, rubbed her eyes as she watched this scene, and her lamb leg fell to the ground with a "thud."

Where... where did he go?!

...

Royal Capital Commercial Street.

"Help!"

"Fire! Such a big fire!"

"Run! Those monsters are coming!"

Terrified screams, the crackling of burning buildings, and the roars from the throats of the deceased mixed together.

On the streets, countless commoners scurried around like headless flies. Behind them were bodies whose movements seemed somewhat stiff. These bodies were tireless and felt no pain, their eyes held only greed for the living.

A mother holding her child accidentally fell to the ground, and seeing a body with sharp claws lunging at her, she closed her eyes in despair.

Just at this critical moment—

An ice-blue light, without warning, illuminated the sky above the street.

Ryoma's figure appeared out of thin air as the specks of light converged. He looked down at the hellish scene below, his brows slightly furrowed.

"How tragic."

He didn't even intend to land, merely floating in mid-air, slowly raising his hands.

Vast magic power began to gather, the air temperature plummeted, and even the burning flames paused.

A colossal, translucent ice-blue dome rapidly expanded over the entire district at a visible speed.

This ice canopy, like an inverted giant bowl, completely blocked out burning wooden beams, shattered rocks, and tiles falling from the sky.

The raging flames, upon contact with the ice canopy, were instantly frozen and extinguished.

The street, originally engulfed in firelight and thick smoke, was instantly covered by a soft, ice-blue glow.

The chaotic crowd below stopped in unison, staring blankly at the sky.

"Wh... what is that?"

"Ice... is it ice?"

"The... the sky is frozen!"

The sudden change caused their brains to briefly shut down.

But soon, the instinct for survival made them react.

"No more fire! The fire has been blocked!"

"Quick! Go this way! This way is safe!"

The enormous ice dome created a crucial safe passage for them.

And Ryoma, who had created all this, once again turned into specks of light and disappeared. He didn't even spare a glance for the people he had saved, because many more were waiting for rescue.

The next moment, he appeared in the noble district of the Royal Capital.

The situation here was slightly better, but there were still sporadic fires and battles.

A group of bodies was attacking a person, who was struggling to hold on with his magic.

Ryoma's gaze swept over the bodies.

Rades Spirito's Soul Corpse Magic...

Information about this enemy flashed through his mind—a pathetic yet hateful fellow, ostracized due to the nature of his magic, and thus came to resent the entire kingdom.

While strategically valuable, its weaknesses are too obvious.

Ryoma's heart remained calm.

These bodies, unless completely pulverized or their magic dispelled by anti-magic, would continue to move under the control of Soul Corpse Magic.

For ordinary Magic Knights, it was very tricky. But for him...

"Too much of an eyesore."

He didn't even bother to act, a thought flashed through his mind.

Eternal Silence Ice Thorns.

Puff! Puff! Puff!

Dozens of incredibly sharp ice thorns shot out from the ground, instantly piercing through the bodies with lightning speed, pinning them firmly in place.

Extreme cold mana surged through the ice thorns, freezing them into ice sculptures from the inside out. But Ryoma knew this wasn't enough, he snapped his fingers lightly.

Bang!

The bodies, frozen into ice sculptures, exploded with a crisp bang. They turned into ice dust flying everywhere, shimmering under the moonlight, then completely dissipated. Not a trace of flesh and blood remained, literally reduced to dust.

The person who was saved stared dumbfounded at the scene, and just as he was about to express his thanks, he found that the mysterious rescuer had vanished without a trace. Only a lingering chill remained on the ground.

"The... Magic Knight Squad?"

The same scene played out repeatedly in every corner of the Royal Capital.

Commoner district, commercial street, artisan district...

Ryoma's figure, like a tireless ghost, shuttled at high speed between the ice crystal coordinates he had set.

At each location, he would first use a giant ice canopy to isolate the fire and chaos, opening up safe evacuation routes. Then, with swift and decisive action, he would freeze and shatter all the corpse puppets in the area.

His magic was efficient and precise, with not a single bit of magic power wasted.

During his shuttling, he encountered many Mages of the Kingdom who were resisting. Their strength, in Ryoma's opinion, was simply dreadful.

A young Mage breathlessly shot out a fire arrow, but it only barely burned a black hole in a corpse, completely unable to stop the opponent in the slightest.

Seeing the corpse about to pounce on his face, the young Mage's eyes were filled with despair.

Hiss!

A slender ice needle silently cut through the air, grazing his ear, and instantly embedded itself in the corpse's glabella.

Crack—

The corpse's movements ceased abruptly, and a layer of frost spread from its head to its entire body at a visible speed, turning it into an ice sculpture in the blink of an eye.

Bang!

With another soft sound, the ice sculpture shattered into dust.

"Huh?"

The young Mage stood frozen, touching his burning ear.

He turned his head sharply, there was no one behind him.

"Wh-what... just happened?"

His companion ran over, looking shaken.

"I don't know. That monster... just shattered by itself."

"Was it... someone from the Magic Knight Squad who acted?"

They looked around blankly, but could only feel a trace of coldness remaining in the air.

Ryoma's figure had already appeared on another street hundreds of meters away, casually freezing and shattering seven or eight more corpses.

'Tsk, these Mages are too weak.' He couldn't help but inwardly complain.

With such strength, let alone protecting the commoners, they almost became food for the corpses themselves.

However, this made him more certain of the correctness of his choice.

Compared to clashing head-on with the enemy's main force, clearing these minions, protecting commoners, and maintaining order were the most urgent tasks at hand.

Moreover, this feeling of moving at high speed across the entire city, appearing like a divine soldier descending from the heavens to rescue people from distress... seemed quite good too.

The corners of Ryoma's lips curved into an almost imperceptible arc.

As he carried out his elusive rescues again and again, more and more people in the Royal Capital noticed this strange phenomenon.

One massive ice dome after another rose in different areas, sheltering the crowds below.

One ice-blue flash after another leaped across the city's night sky, each flash signifying the resolution of a crisis.

In a safe zone protected by an ice canopy, a little girl held in her mother's arms pointed to a fleeting blue streak of light in the distant night sky and asked in a childish voice, "Mommy, look, is that a shooting star?"

Her mother, a woman who had just been rescued from the claws of a corpse, watched the light that constantly appeared throughout the city, bringing life, with tears streaming down her face.

She hugged her daughter tightly, her voice choked yet firm. "No, baby."

"That's not a shooting star, that is... our guardian angel."
