Chapter 78 - Mobius

Akame ga Kill World.

Rvy's Laboratory.

"Hi, Dr. Mobius, did you miss me?" A sweet, childlike voice rang out just as Mobius was in the middle of her experiment. Her expression instantly darkened. Where were the guards?!

How did a child get in here?!

Following the voice, she saw the source—a tiny pink fairy, as delicate and beautiful as a porcelain doll.

"Surprised to see me?"

"Dr. Mobius, what are you researching?" Elysia fluttered closer, curiosity sparkling in her bright eyes.

"..."

Who are you?!

Mobius frowned. She was certain she had never seen this little thing before.

"Do we know each other?"

Elysia blinked her big eyes, looking confused. "Of course I know you! Don't tell me you forgot about me!"

Mobius thought seriously for a moment, then shook her head. "I don't have any memory of you."

Elysia froze for a second, then quickly smiled again. "Ah, then let me introduce myself! My name's Elysia—the radiant, fluttering girl as dazzling as a blooming flower~ So, have you remembered me now~?"

"Elysia?"

Mobius stared at the little girl who looked about her own age. Something felt wrong. Terribly wrong.

Her instincts screamed at her—stay away from this child!

Elysia tilted her head in thought. Had Mobius lost her memories during reincarnation?

Why was her own memory still intact?

Could it be because she was a natural-born Herrscher?

Teachers at Academy City had mentioned that upon death, they could retain their memories into reincarnation—or even avoid the cycle altogether.

"How did you get in here?" Mobius asked coldly.

"I walked through the front door. Just came in," Elysia replied casually.

"..."

Mobius fell silent. She understood.

Mom let her in!

This girl wasn't a native of this world!

A friend's child, perhaps—brought by Mom?

"I don't care who you are. Don't bother me while I'm experimenting."

Mobius threw out the words coldly.

Elysia blinked, curiosity unbroken. "What kind of experiment are you doing?"

Mobius ignored her, continuing her work intently.

Since childhood, she had never liked playing or studying with kids her age. She had finished kindergarten and primary education on her own, preferring to stay home conducting experiments with her mother—creating potions and testing formulas.

Elysia, surprisingly, was very well-behaved—quietly resting her chin on her hands, watching Mobius work.

Eventually, Mobius finished her experiment and picked up a bubbling vial of liquid, drinking it in one go.

"How can you just drink it right away? Do you even know what it does?" Elysia asked in surprise.

Mobius shot her a cold glance and said nothing.

"Mobius, that attitude isn't very nice!" Elysia puffed her cheeks in protest.

"Sister Elysia—Au—uh, Sister Mobius." Griseo walked into the lab. At first, she almost called her 'aunt,' but seeing Mobius's current childlike form, she changed it mid-sentence.

Vita followed behind Griseo.

"Who are you people now?" Mobius asked impatiently.

Griseo blinked, glancing at Elysia. "Sister Mobius doesn't recognize us?"

"She probably drank from the River of Forgetfulness and forgot everything about us after crossing into reincarnation."

Elysia sighed. After observing Mobius for a while, she was sure—this Mobius genuinely didn't remember them. She wasn't pretending.

"Forgotten memories… so you're saying you're people I knew in my previous life."

Mobius had heard plenty about reincarnation from her mother. Some worlds had systems of life and death where souls became spirits, entered the underworld, and reincarnated into new lives.

But under the power of their gods, chosen ones like them could transcend those systems—unaffected by such rules.

"That's right! Mobius, you used to be an incredible scientist!"

"How incredible? Could I destroy a galaxy at full power?"

Mobius suddenly looked intrigued about her past self.

"..."

"What about a star then?"

"..."

"At least a moon, right?"

"..."

"...Do you all have a misunderstanding about what 'powerful' means?" Mobius glanced at Griseo's expression and instantly got her answer.

She was only mildly curious about her past life.

She wasn't the kind to live for her past. Her current life was going perfectly fine—what did her previous self have to do with her now?

"Stop bothering me. The person you knew was my past self. Go find her across time if you want to chat."

Seriously!

Mobius felt an urge to punch someone, but she suppressed it in the end.

There were three of them!

She couldn't win!

The only one she might stand a chance against was Elysia, who looked around her age.

But if the girl really retained her past-life memories, even that would be hopeless.

Reincarnators who kept their memories from birth were essentially reborn veterans—mentally mature and rich in combat experience.

Vita, reading Mobius's inner thoughts, smiled faintly.

How interesting.

Mobius sensed something and suddenly looked up, wary eyes locking onto Vita. That woman—was she using some kind of mental ability?

That feeling of being seen through!

A scan, perhaps?!

Mobius walked past the three and exited the lab.

If not for being outmatched, she would've already taught that woman—who carelessly probed others' minds—a hard lesson!

...

Because Mobius had no memories of them, Elysia, Griseo, and Vita could only say goodbye to Rvy and return to their respective worlds.

"Vita, your dimensional travel clearance seems pretty high."

Griseo felt frustrated. Her clearance level was so low she couldn't freely travel between worlds at all.

"It's fairly high. I can go to most worlds that are open to us."

The accessible worlds were those already conquered by others.

Vita knew there were still countless unknown worlds locked to them.

Even her original world had been sealed off.

She didn't mind.

"Do you know how to increase clearance?"

"Signing up for world-expansion missions is the fastest way—but it depends on individual performance."

"If you perform poorly or drag the team down, there are punishments."

"What kind of punishment?"

"Point deductions."

Griseo opened her Honkai system interface and looked at her balance—0 points.

She tapped into the shop.

The available goods had changed again.

In Mobius's world, most items were materials from Danger Beasts and equipment crafted from them.

In Elysia's world, the goods were mainly related to magic.

"You're thinking of joining a world-expansion mission, aren't you?" Vita asked.

"Is that not allowed?" Griseo looked puzzled.

"It's allowed, I just think it doesn't really suit you."

"I still want to give it a try."

"Fine! I'll go with you." Vita sighed helplessly.

She had seen others go on world-expansion missions—essentially campaigns of conquest, occupying new worlds and killing everything that resisted.

Since they needed a team, the two joined a squad led by someone Vita knew and submitted their application.

...

Honkai Squad.

Team Channel.

Diana: "Well, well, we meet again."

Vita: "Why do I feel like you were waiting for us?"

Diana: "Aren't you the ones who applied to join my team?"

Griseo: "I saw your name on the expansion squad list for the new world and joined in."

On the very first page of the team list, she had spotted Diana's Honkai Squad.

Diana: "I know. This is the world we'll be entering next. If you're up for it, let's go together."

A briefing file appeared in the chat, containing intel on the target world and their objectives.

Griseo read it carefully.

The target world's human civilization had conducted biological experiments, creating a highly contagious virus transmissible through blood. It could rewrite DNA, and within a short time, it had devastated human civilization.

The infected rapidly mutated, merging their DNA with that of animals, becoming monstrous, savage abominations.

As for their mission—

Griseo froze when she read it.

Rescue the Cursed Children, and eliminate any humans who hate or harm them.

Griseo: "Um... when it says 'eliminate humans who hate or harm the Cursed Children,' how exactly are we supposed to do that?"

Diana: "If you see them, kill them."

Diana: "If you don't want to, you can just focus on rescuing the Cursed Children. There are plenty of others willing to handle the rest."

Diana: "If that's fine with you, prepare yourselves. The mission countdown is three days—I still need to find two more teammates."

Griseo: "Alright."

She closed the chat channel.

"Vita, what should we do to prepare?"

"No need to prepare much. We're not sending our real bodies—just our nanite forms. It's basically like playing a game," Vita smiled. "Use these three days to get comfortable with your nanobody."

"Okay."

Griseo nodded, not really knowing what else to do.

The civilizations of Earth, Venus, and Mars—all belonged to the Honkai faction.

And beyond those, countless other worlds and civilizations were also part of it.

All of this was new to Griseo.

From the intelligence she had gathered so far, the entire Honkai faction was extremely militaristic, heavily female-dominated, and in a state of constant outward expansion—occupying more and more worlds.

She could understand that.

Just like a growing nation, to develop and grow stronger, it had to expand its territory and seize more resources.

Conflicts with local powers were inevitable.

She didn't know how vast the Honkai faction really was—but compared to them, a single planetary civilization felt like nothing more than a tiny village.

Calling it a village might even be an overstatement.

...

Three days later.

Griseo created her account and entered the expansion world.

Black Bullet World.

When she opened her eyes, she saw her squad leader Diana standing nearby, along with two others—a twin-tailed girl in a military coat, and a short-haired delinquent-looking girl in shorts.

Kirishima glanced at Griseo's blue shoulder-length hair—so similar to her own—and instantly felt a sense of connection.

"Since everyone's here, let's go over the mission plan," said the nun Diana softly.

"We're to rescue the children deemed 'cursed' by humans. Housing and relocation will be handled by others. Our job is to ensure the children reach the designated safe zones."

"Any questions?"

Vita raised her hand. "Yes!"

"Go ahead."

"What if the children refuse to come with us?"

"This situation is up to your judgment," Diana replied. "Anything else?"

"Nope."

"Vita, you're with me. Griseo, you'll team up with Kirishima and Haruna."

"Let's move out!"

The five-person squad split into two groups.

They crossed through dense forests. Griseo glanced around at the ruined buildings surrounding them, then raised her gaze toward a tall stone monument in the distance.

"We've reached the outer sector. There are many lifeforms gathered ahead," Kirishima said, pointing forward.

"Target detected," Haruna reported, her body surrounded by an orange data ring. "Distance—eight hundred thirty meters."

"Let's move!"

Kirishima leapt several meters into the air, landing lightly on a tree branch. Then, with another kick, she vaulted dozens more meters forward, leaping from tree to tree.

"..."

Griseo followed right behind.

When they reached the target zone Haruna had identified, they found three adult men lying on the ground screaming in pain—and a trembling young girl beside them. Kirishima was kicking the three men one after another.

"..."

Griseo looked at the girl's injuries, then at the half-dead men Kirishima had just pummeled.

The little girl trembled in fear. Kirishima crouched down and gently patted her head. "Don't be afraid, big sister's here now."

Even without an explanation, Griseo understood what had happened.

Three adult men had beaten a small child.

Was this how vile the humans of this world were?

After calming the girl, Kirishima used her nanomaterials to create food for her.

"Little one, will you come with us?"

"..." The girl lowered her head, unable to speak.

Haruna frowned. "Idiot Kirishima, you scared her."

"Then you try."

Kirishima stood up, leaning casually against a thick tree with her arms crossed.

But as the black-coated Haruna approached, she looked just as intimidating.

The girl flinched and backed away—until she saw Griseo.

Compared to the others, Griseo's presence was calm and gentle.

The little girl ran to her side, clutching the hem of her clothes.

"Haruna, looks like you're not any better," Kirishima teased.

"..."

Through this single encounter, Griseo, Kirishima, and Haruna began rescuing more of the Cursed Children.

Across the world, bases for sheltering the cursed were quickly established.

Children were rescued one after another, brought back safely by the Honkai squads.

Naturally, this drew the attention of the remnants of human powers struggling to survive.

Mysterious girls—suspected aliens—had begun saving the very children humanity had condemned as cursed.
