Chapter 1 - The cosmic catastrophe

Chapter 1

As I gazed up at the night sky, the stars twinkled like diamonds against the inky blackness of space. I recalled the words of Dr. Maria Hernandez, a leading astrophysicist who had dedicated her career to studying the evolution of stars. Her team had been monitoring Xylophia-V, a massive star on the brink of collapse.

Suddenly, a deafening explosion rocked the city, shaking the very foundations of the world. I stood frozen in shock, my eyes fixed on the horror unfolding outside. Buildings crumbled, and an eerie, pulsating glow enveloped the city.

"What's happening?" a neighbor shouted, moving away in panic.

My mind racing, I grabbed my phone to check the news, but the screen displayed "No Service." A sense of dread washed over me as I realized the severity of the situation.

People huddled together, trying to make sense of the chaos. "It can't be a natural disaster," I said, my voice shaking. "This destruction is too widespread."

My landlord's eyes locked onto the sky, his expression grim. "Xylophia-V," he whispered. "It must have gone supernova."

My eyes widened as the implications sank in. A supernova would release an enormous amount of energy, affecting the surrounding space and potentially harming nearby planets.

As we struggled to comprehend the scale of the disaster, strange occurrences began to manifest. Buildings twisted and contorted, as if reality itself was warping. The air seemed to ripple and distort, like the surface of a pond.

"This is not just a supernova," I whispered, my mind reeling. "It's something more... something that defies our understanding of the universe and nature."

As the world around us continued to crumble, we realized that we were facing a catastrophe of cosmic proportions. The fabric of reality seemed to be unraveling, and we were powerless to stop it.

The Monster Awakens, The Power Within

As I stood there, frozen in shock, the world around me continued to crumble. The eerie quiet was suddenly shattered by the sound of shuffling footsteps and groaning. I turned to see a horde of terrifying zombies emerging from the heart of the destruction.

These undead creatures, born from the energy of the supernova, began to wreak havoc on the city. The screams of the terrified populace filled the air as the zombies rampaged through the streets.

One of the zombies, its eyes fixed on me, charged in my direction. I reacted on instinct, punching it hard to the ground with my eyes closed. When I opened them, I was met with a sight that made my blood run cold.

As I watched in amazement, I felt a strange, tingling sensation coursing through my veins. It was as if my body was being rewritten, my cells transformed by the energy of the supernova.

I looked down at my hands, and they were glowing with a faint, blue light. I felt a surge of power, unlike anything I had ever experienced before.

The other zombies, sensing my newfound abilities, turned to gaze at me. Our eyes locked, and I felt a jolt of electricity run through my body. Without thinking, I charged towards the zombies, my hands glowing with energy.

I struck down zombie after zombie, each blow more powerful than the last. But as I fought, I realized that a blue page was at my front with some readings, which I later came to know as the system.

The system displayed my stats:

- Level: 1

- Strength: 17

- Speed: 19

- Intelligence: 87

- Mana: 2

- Combat Power: 125 (the addition of the four stats)

I wondered if killing zombies would increase my stats. It seemed that I had grown stronger during this calamity.

With my newfound awareness, I could see the zombies' movements, anticipating their attacks before they happened. I took down the zombies with ease, moving through the hordes with a fluidity that was both exhilarating and terrifying.

As I fought, I began to uncover the secrets of the supernova and the system. I could feel they were in sync with my body and veins, imbuing me with powers that I never thought possible.

But with great power comes great responsibility. I knew that I had to use my abilities wisely, to protect the innocent and survive in this new world.

Confrontation

As I fought off the zombies, I noticed I wasn't alone. Other awakeners, individuals with extraordinary abilities connected to the supernova, were scattered throughout the city. I saw a woman with superhuman speed dodging zombie attacks with ease and a man with incredible strength crushing zombies and lifting heavy objects.

These individuals were fighting their own battles, and I began to notice that strength and power came in many forms. A group approached me, threatening to join their ranks. They were the same group that had bullied me before the supernova, and I realized I'd be facing my past demons.

I stood tall, looking the group leader straight in the eye. "What do you think you're doing?" I said firmly. "Are you trying to intimidate me? Rule? The world's changed. We're all just trying to survive now."

The group leader sneered, but I saw fear and uncertainty in his eyes. He wasn't used to people standing up to him. "You're making a big mistake," he said, taking a step closer. "You don't want to cross us."

I smiled, a fierce glint in my eyes. "You don't want your path to cross with mine. Bring it on."

Before things escalated, a zombie horde approached, attracted by the commotion. I charged forward, my powers surging as I took on the zombies. The group leader and his gang watched in awe as I effortlessly dispatched the undead.

My dominance was clear, and the group leader's expression changed from sneering to shock. "You've made your point," he said, his voice laced with fear and admiration. "We'll leave you alone."

The group retreated, and I stood victorious, my powers and confidence boosted. I realized I didn't need anyone's approval or protection; I was capable of taking care of myself.
