Rise of the Feline Society Chapter 2 - The False Plan

As soon as the video was done playing the class dispersed. Everyone was either heading to a club activity or going someplace else.

"Hey William," Jack said. "Do you want to join a club since it will be required by law in two days, to keep students from being overweight or something." He rolled his eyes.

"Nah," William replied. I got stuff to do right now Jack." William stated. "I'll join them when I actually have to go to them. You want to walk together like usual? I'm heading home."

"Uh, yeah!" Jack said pulling a why would you ask face at William.

Jack started to pack his things as William slowly walked out the door. Ten seconds later Jack caught up with William.

"So, what are you doing tonight?" Jack asked as he went on with his night plans. "I'm going to practice what I'm going to say to my parents about a type of internship plan at their work." He said smiling about the idea. "And you William?"

William paused thinking about what he was going to say to his best friend. "I'm going to spend time with my family. I don't do that as often anymore."

"Spend time with family?" Jack said like it was something that can't be done. "I barely see my parents."

The friends pushed open the doors and were now walking on the pathway to the gate of the school.

"Are you doing anything in particular or just playing a boardgame or something?" Jack asked.

"I'll probably make some cookies with one of my sisters," William replied.

"I see," Jack replied. "You going to make chocolate chip then?"

"That's Miranda's favorite," William replied.

"Well, she has good taste," Jack said. "Tell your beautiful sister to enjoy the cookies for me."

"William gave Jack the side eye as they had just exited the school grounds.

"Eh… sorry," Jack stuttered scratching the back of his head.

William shrugged it off as his best friend being awkward.

"Well, I'll see you tomorrow Will!" Jack said as he turned left to go to his house because the pair lived in opposite directions.

"See you, Jack!" William said as the pair waved at each other before parting ways as William took a right.

Unlike what he told his best friend; William was not going to spend time with his family or bake cookies with his three sisters. Unlike Jack his family wasn't in the best of situations. The world was different like it was in the past. The world wasn't ruled by the government like it used to but instead it was ruled by gangs. There was a city here or there that the various governments of the world controlled but in reality, the various gangs that ruled the cities were calling the shots.

Ever since the "Banning of Lethal Weapons Act" the governments of the world were trying to figure out how to rival the other countries. That's when a scientist made a major breakthrough in human evolution, the creation of the Animorphs. Currently this was the only way for the countries to tell who was stronger than the other.

This was the cause of two major problems. One was that the police were no longer properly equipped so the average man along with the Animorphs could rise up and form gangs. After that some cities fell and others rose up. The cities were now categorized from tier A through F based on how much money the city had. Tier A being the wealthiest and Tier F being that the city is an actual dumpster pile like what your bedroom looks like at the moment.

William was living in a Tier D city. A city where if he couldn't pay his bills, he would have to move to a Tier E city if you can even call it that where people rarely crawled out of; like you in your mom's basement. Living in a tier D city was bad because the jobs were lacking and crime was rampant. This caused people to become desperate and join one of these gangs to earn cash and fast. This was also considered illegal but if the gang was big enough the police couldn't handle them.

Unfortunately for William even after his mom and his older sister were able to get jobs this was not enough to pay the overdue bills. This made William want to help and for him the only way he could do that was join a gang. A gang called the Shadowfire. One of the big three gangs in his city called Emberlyn. There were other small-time gangs besides the big three but he was recommended to the Shadowfire by a classmate.

William was walking home like he usually would keeping his head down to try and avoid any unwanted attention. The gang that was in this area called the Darklash gang. This gang primary wore all black and liked to use cords and other types of makeshift weapons. William hurried as he finally took a left onto his apartment block. He went up the stair since the elevator was broken to the fourth floor. When he went inside after unlocking the door he was greeted by his mother Grace Carter. She wrapped her arms around him in a big embrace.

"Mom!" William complained.

After a moment his mother let him go and backed up. William's mom was a beautiful woman with long dark black hair and bright green eyes. She currently had on a green work uniform because her late shift at her not so local supermarket that was attached to a small mall would start soon.

"How was school?" Grace asked.

"Boring," William responded. "I'll be going to Jack's tonight for a sleepover," William stated.

"Ok honey," his mother said as she turned around to go finish getting ready. "Miranda are you almost ready?"

"Almost mom!" the voice of his year older sister replied.

Both his mother and older sister worked at the same place after the pair had practically begged the manager for the job. His sister walked out and her hair was up in a messy bun. His sister was as pretty or even prettier than his mother. People described Miranda's looks as akin to a model. A couple times people would become friends with William, and he would learn later that all they wanted was to get closer to his sister.

She gave a glance at William before asking. "What took you so long?"

"I was watching the Animorph fight after class," Will responded.

"Who won?"

"Jasper."

"Oh good," she sighed. "I like him more."

Just then his mom came out of the bathroom her hair in the same messy bun as her eldest daughter. "You ready?" his mother asked.

"I was ready before you," Miranda said.

His mother ignored the comment as she went over giving William a kiss on the forehead. Miranda walked over and hugged him.

"Stay safe," he said.

"We will," Miranda said.

"Say high to Sophie and Lily before you go," his mother said before opening the door and the girls walked out closing and locking the door behind him.

One of the two-bedroom doors opened and two heads popped out. It was his two younger sisters Sophie and Lily. Sophie was his younger sister by 8 minutes while Lily was a year younger at 15 years old.

The Carter family was a very close family. Since their money situation wasn't good, they shared a two-bedroom apartment. Miranda and his mother shared the master bedroom with a curtain splitting down a middle. William and his two younger sisters shared the second bedroom which had a three-way divider with a small curtain like hallway in the middle. William's dad wasn't in the picture, his mom to this day refuses to talk about him.

"Hey William!" His sisters said.

"Do you want to play a board game?" His twin sister Sophie asked while Lily just waited for William to respond.

"Not tonight," William replied. "I'm going to Jack's for a sleepover."

"Agh!" The sisters sighed.

"Well at least take this twin," Sophie said as she tossed over a Ziploc bag which had a peanut butter sandwich in it. "I made it so that we could play right away but I guess not anymore.

"Is the sleepover confirmed or are you in the planning stage?" His youngest sister asked.

"It's confirmed," William replied.

"Well then see ya tomorrow night," Sophie said as she walked over to give him a hug. "Then we can play uno." She let William go after finishing her statement.

Lily also gave him a hug. "You know you're only stalling your defeat," she snickered.

"Yeah, whatever," William waved his sister off as he went in the room and grabbed a plain black hoodie.

He waved to his sisters as he opened the door and left the house. He was now heading to the Shadowfire's main headquarters. He was heading there a little early but he wanted to talk to someone first before the job started at 7pm.
