Tuesday started better than Monday.
No threatening notes. No assembly. Just a normal day of classes, homework, and the comfortable routine Kai and I had fallen into.

I was at my locker between second and third period when Sophie appeared, practically vibrating with excitement.
"Guess what?"
"You won the lottery?" I said, grabbing my history textbook.
"Better. The scholarship committee just posted the final list." She shoved her phone in my face. "Look!"
I squinted at the screen and saw my name: Aria Sullivan - Full Academic Scholarship Renewed - Four Year Guarantee.
The breath I'd been holding for weeks finally released. "It's official?"
"Completely official. They even added a note'In recognition of outstanding character and courage.'" Sophie bounced on her toes. "You did it, Aria! No more worrying about losing everything!"
