Chapter 2 - Exchange of Blows

Knowing he doesn't have any time left to dodge, Higura decided to focus on defending by protecting his head with his Kagune. A dark-bluish Kagune grew from his back and formed into something like a shield to his face in an unimaginable fashion.

Flop.

The sound of flesh dropping resounded as Higura dropped to the ground, half of his face blown off along with his Kagune on the ground. Seeing this scene, Lumian racked the gun and approached Higura at a slow pace.

Placing the shotgun to his back, he walked forward at a leisurely pace. Seeing the axe Higura dropped when he was hit with the shotgun, Lumian bent down and grabbed the axe as if it were normal. He smiled as if he were reminiscing about something funny.

"You know, Higura, I find it funny that even after eating an innocent child, you can still stomach living with other humans."

Hearing Lumian's words, Higura slowly turned his head and shot a glare in his direction. After analyzing his chances of winning and seeing Lumian's actions of placing the shotgun away, Higura felt that he could still win against this human.

Although Higura was injured and couldn't regenerate for a short while because of the special shell of Lumian, he can still exert inhuman strength.

"Is that all you can do?! Humans never failed to disappoint me. A few days ago, I was walking down the city when the boss told me to buy equipment that we could use when I saw a child convulsing in the middle of the street.

She was pitiful, so pitiful that I decided to free her from her suffering..."

Higura laughed as blood fell from his mouth. Knowing that he has no chance against Lumian with the shotgun, he planned on provoking him into using the axe instead.

"...by killing her!"

And just like Higura's plan, Lumian indeed fell for the bait. Holding the axe with both hands, Lumian sprinted towards Higura and, with a huge stride, raised the axe above him, aiming precisely to strike Higura's head.

Higura, who was clearly aware of Lumian's intent, smiled and, gathering his entire strength, delivered a strike strong enough to destroy a normal human's bones.

Swish—

His fist flew at an unimaginable speed that no human can ever perceive, let alone react to. However, what Higura saw made him question his entire knowledge of humans. Lumian, upon sensing and seeing that Higura was going to take advantage of his actions, ducked and, with the agility of a cat, evaded the strike of the Ghoul.

Then, with coordination, he uses Higura's loss of momentum to deliver a blow to his solar plexus.

Bang.

Lumian's punch was strong enough to rupture most of Higura's rib cage. Looking up at his opponent, Higura felt that he was fighting a strange existence. Like what they call doves.

Raising himself up, Higura straightened his body and endured the excruciating pain that's coursing through his body. He knew that from the blow with Lumian earlier, this guy shouldn't be regarded as a normal human.

A single strike from him is enough to send a grown man flying.

Looking at Lumian's face, Higura saw that he wasn't paying attention to him; rather, he seemed to be contemplating something. Realizing that this is probably the only suitable way to escape, Higura tightened his legs to the ground and was about to run when,

Bang.

Feeling a sharp pain in the side of his abdomen, Higura lost his strength and stumbled to the ground. Normally, such pain would immediately cease due to his ability as a ghoul, but this time, it felt like as if he's being slowly cook in a furnace. Then, Higura heard Lumian's voice.

"RC Cells Bullets is kind of useful against ghouls like you. Reckless and overconfident."
