Chapter 1 - The End of Ben Ross

The impact of the truck was a final, terrible punctuation mark on the life of Ben Ross. One second, the mildly overweight office worker was agonizing over an overdue spreadsheet; the next, the world dissolved into a cacophony of screeching metal and shattering glass. His life, so ordinary and predictable, ended in an instant of chaotic violence. He awoke in a place of perfect stillness and blinding, silent white. Before him stood an ancient, luminous figure, whose presence felt both profoundly vast and strangely gentle."Welcome, Ben Ross," the being greeted him. "You've been... reassigned. In the terms you understand, you've been Isekai'd to the vampire diaries."Ben's fear was instantly superseded by his inner strategist. "The Vampire Diaries," he stated, the destination already clear. "If I'm being reborn there, I need insurance. Do I get wishes?""Three," God confirmed.Ben didn't need to consult his notes. This was the contingency plan he'd been running during every tedious meeting, lunch break, drive to work for years."I wish to be reborn as Niklaus Mikaelson's twin brother." Immediate protection and proximity to power."I wish for the ability to siphon magic, like a Heretic." The perfect counter-ability for a future Hybrid, making him unique and devastatingly powerful."And finally," Ben finished, his tone driven by cold, calculated necessity, "I want the strongest human body possible."He explained his logic quickly: "I'll be human for over a decade in the medieval world. I can't survive that as I am. A stronger human body ensures survival, training, and crucially, an inherently stronger Original vampire body when I turn."God simply nodded, amused by the sheer pragmatism. "No easy mode. No Alternate Universe. You face the established history. But you retain perfect recall of all future events, and you gain a System to track your progress."With a nod, Ben Ross vanished, propelled into the chilling, historical reality of the 10th century, the main plot 1000 years away.
