Chapter 6 - Chapter Six: Building the Small Kingdom

The next morning, a gentle chill filled the air, and the fresh breeze filled my lungs. I sat at the edge of my shelter, reviewing the task list that had appeared yesterday, feeling a mix of excitement and tension:

Hunt the remaining 5 rabbits to complete the 20/20 goal.

Gather resources to build a shelter for the companion.

I looked around at the trees and realized the new shelter would require more wood. Some of the logs were long and heavy, and I wouldn't be able to move them alone.

I decided to start with the smaller trees first, preparing them as the main columns. For the larger logs, I tied ropes around them and dragged them gradually, using stones to stabilize the direction and distribute the effort. Each step required careful balance, and with every heavy log I moved, a sense of accomplishment filled my heart.

Over time, the foundation of the new shelter began to take shape gradually, but time was pressing. I had to build a level and strong base before sunset, or the process might falter. I paused for a moment to gather my strength, then began dividing the ground, placing large stones as the foundation, and arranging the columns evenly.

Secondary Task: Farming

I stopped in front of the patch of land I had designated for farming, wondering: What should I plant? The environment was unknown, some plants could be poisonous, and I wasn't an expert in agriculture.

I decided to start with what I knew, at least to avoid risks:

Collect familiar seeds: I began with the berries I recognized, and also small herbs near the river. Each seed I planted carefully, wary that it might not sprout or could be destroyed.

Experimental planting: I designated a small plot near the river to monitor growth, adding a simple barrier of branches to protect it from animals. I knew any lapse could cost the entire crop.

Patience and observation: Every day, I monitored the plants, watered them, removed weeds, and ensured no rabbits or other curious animals invaded. Occasionally, I heard soft rustling behind the trees, as wildlife crept toward my enclosure, and I had to scare them off with a loud voice or a small stone—daily lessons in resource protection.

Over the following days, I noticed the first signs of growth. Tiny green leaves began to emerge from the soil. But when they appeared in their new form, resembling small wheat grains, I was surprised: Am I really planting wheat? Or something similar?

I smiled to myself and didn't worry too much. What mattered was that they had sprouted. This was the beginning of sustainable food production. A sense of pride filled me; I finally felt that I was starting to establish a small kingdom, step by step, away from the initial chaos and dangers.

Additional Challenges Faced

Transporting large logs: One of the heavy logs almost tipped over on me, but using ropes and stones to stabilize it saved the day.

Protecting the plants: Rabbits attempted to breach the barrier several times, teaching me the importance of constant crop monitoring.

Time and daylight: Sunset approached quickly, forcing me to balance construction and farming before darkness fell.
