Chapter 181 - Don't Know

Alexander was slightly surprised.

Aside from Khorne, who had always been focused on Baal, the other Four Gods apparently didn't know that Sanguinius had been resurrected.

It was known that when Guilliman was resurrected, it attracted the attention of almost the entire Warp.

But then, Alexander also somewhat understood why.

The Four Gods probably anticipated Guilliman's resurrection and had been paying attention to it all along.

Sanguinius' resurrection, however, was an event outside of fate, and it happened concurrently with the Battle of Cadia.

At that time, the Four Gods' attention was all drawn to Cadia, focusing on stirring up the Warp tides of the Eye of Terror.

Aside from Khorne, who was constantly watching Baal, attempting to corrupt the Blood Angels, the other three gods paid almost no attention to Baal.

And when Sanguinius was resurrected, the heavy shadows of the hive mind blocked prying eyes from the Warp, and the Scarlet Scar sector where Baal was located was an astronomical phenomenon caused by Khorne's power.

Its corresponding location in the Warp was almost entirely within the Blood God's domain.

All of this obscured the signs of Sanguinius' resurrection, and the Emperor might have also provided assistance.

"Are you ignoring my own efforts?"

Sanguinius seemed to read Alexander's thoughts and said,

"I also worked very hard. Taking advantage of the Great Rift opening and Warp storms raging everywhere, I dragged the entire Baal III system, along with the surrounding ten light-years of space, into the void between reality and the Warp, half-submerged in your Warp essence."

"The Warp's nature is chaos; even the gods cannot control the flow of all Warp power. And in the original fate, Baal would have been swept into a Warp storm. As long as Khorne doesn't reveal my resurrection, and as long as I stay on Baal, the other three gods won't notice my resurrection."

"As long as you stay on Baal?" Alexander emphasized the words Baal.

"To be precise, within ten light-years of Baal," Sanguinius nodded slightly and explained.

"If I leave this range for more than five to ten minutes, they might notice my existence."

Alexander fell silent for a moment. As long as he left Baal, he would be targeted by the other three gods.

Only a Primarch can defeat a Primarch, and this is even more true for an Archangel.

Alexander didn't want to be ambushed by the Prospero Ogryn, the Barbarus old farmer, and the Chemos hook-seller as soon as he stepped out.

Oh, right, and the Nuceria star-rage. After the Great Rift opened, Angron's resurrection time also sped up.

But he only pondered for a moment before coming up with a solution.

Alexander stretched out his hand and shook the four-dimensional pocket on his belly.

"This four-dimensional pocket of mine is prepared precisely for those who are lost."

"You may enter and gain enlightenment!"

Hearing this, a smile also appeared at the corner of Sanguinius' mouth.

"We thought alike."

"I have already reclaimed the Forge World Hephaestus and gained control of its STCs and shipyards."

Sanguinius casually fiddled with the projector on the table, and a small spaceship appeared in mid-air.

"There's a ship almost completed there. After some simple modifications, it will be enough to maintain a habitable space within your four-dimensional pocket."

"I will select a thousand Blood Angels and Astartes warriors from successor chapters to go along with us."

A thousand men, the full complement of a Codex Chapter, made Alexander nod with some satisfaction.

After the Battle of Baal, the Blood Angels had about ten thousand warriors left. Some were needed to defend Baal III, some to train new recruits, and some to clear Tyranids swarms on nearby planets. Squeezing out a thousand-man force, the size of a Chapter, was already the limit.

Moreover, too many people might not be beneficial, as all these warriors would have to emerge from Alexander's four-dimensional pocket, and too many would be difficult to arrange.

"One more thing, how should we travel to Macragge?"

As he spoke, Sanguinius' fingertip moved lightly, and a star map of the galaxy appeared in mid-air.

The stars twinkled like fireflies in a wild field, but a hideous, bloody scar stretched across the void of the galaxy, particularly frightening.

"The Great Rift, after it opened, is far wider than ten light-years. Your Anywhere Door cannot cross it directly."

"However, we both know that the Great Rift is not a solid wall; there are also passages through it. But I believe we have a better option."

As he spoke, Sanguinius looked at Alexander.

" Meet up with Doraemon Cawl—ahem, Archmagos Belisarius Cawl—first?"

Alexander raised an eyebrow slightly at the words, pointing to the area near Cadia on the star map.

The star map instantly zoomed in, showing the star system where Cadia was located. With the opening of the Great Rift, that area was almost entirely engulfed in crimson Warp tides.

But Alexander and Sanguinius both knew that the Imperial forces in that region had not completely perished.

The Imperial Fists' flagship, Phalanx, was still sailing there, and at the same time, Adeptus Mechanicus forces led by Archmagos Belisarius Cawl were also taking action.

The crucial Fate Armor for Guilliman's resurrection was manufactured by Archmagos Belisarius Cawl and was now carried by him.

According to normal history, they would then encounter the Eldar Death Guard and form an alliance with the Eldar Death Guard Emissary, Yvraine, who would guide them into the Webway to Macragge.

"That xenos witch is troublesome," Sanguinius slowly said. "If we let her kill Guilliman, we won't have any leverage over Guilliman."

Alexander showed an understanding expression and nodded: "We'll hitch a ride on the Eldar's Webway, and incidentally prevent the Eldar from killing Guilliman first."

"What about Yvraine? In five minutes, are you confident you can cut through the Death Guard and send her soul back to Slaanesh?"

Sending Yvraine to her death immediately after using the Webway was clearly the safest method.

"Even the current Eldar Death Guard Avatar would not be my match."

Sanguinius' lips curved into a mischievous smile:

"But whether it can be resolved within five minutes depends on whether Ynnead is willing to make a gamble for his chosen one."

"My suggestion is, there's no need to fall out with the Eldar. Since they want to cooperate... then of course we can."

"Once you've been there, your anywhere door can open a gate to the Webway at any time... As long as we find a way to get a map of the Eldar Webway, this ancient creation of the Old Ones, once coveted by the Emperor, can be used by us."

"A Webway map... The Black Library should have one..."

Alexander stroked his chin, thinking of the legendary Eldar grand library, which should contain a relatively complete Webway map.

The only problem was that it was home to one of the few intact Eldar gods, the Laughing God, Cegorach.

This one was an expert who could be ranked alongside the Necron 'Necron Buffet' C'tan The Deceiver, the 'Everything is Going According to Plan' Lord of Change Tzeentch, and the 'I Am Not a God' Emperor, as one of the four great The Deceivers of the galaxy.

Although Cegorach was considered the last among the four The Deceivers, he was still not easy to deal with.

However, if the Emperor's condition was still good, he certainly wouldn't miss this opportunity to plunder the Webway, and would also cooperate with Alexander's actions.

It's worth a gamble... Besides the Webway map, the Black Library also contained the accumulated knowledge of generations of Eldar. Alexander couldn't imagine how much money it could be sold for.

Alexander and Sanguinius exchanged a silent glance, and the two instantly reached a consensus: they had to trick the Eldar. They were a rich fool for tens of millions of years!

The Eldar's purpose in helping to resurrect Guilliman was actually to make humanity a shield against Chaos for the Eldar, not genuinely to treat humanity as an ally.

The Emperor told many lies ten thousand years ago, but one thing He said was absolutely right: xenos are never truly reliable.

During the entire Old Night era, the xenos who didn't backstab humanity were few and far between, and those Eldar bean sprouts were clearly not among them.

Since they could use humanity as a shield, Alexander and Sanguinius could also covet their tens of millions of years of collection.

Alexander even began to calculate what items he could use to find the Black Library and sneak in.

"By the way, what are you going to do with Baal?" Alexander slightly shifted his gaze from the star map, looking at Sanguinius with interest.

"I've already written out the plan for rebuilding the Ninth Legion. Here's the table of contents."

Sanguinius, without changing his expression, patted a thick stack of documents by his side, almost half his height, which made a dull thud.

"All that's missing is someone to execute these plans after I leave."

"This must be a arduous task," Alexander exclaimed involuntarily.

"We should choose a qualified and reliable Son of Sanguinius to carry it out."

"This Son should ideally have a thorough understanding of our position and be willing to defy the Codex for the benefit of all humanity, even bearing the burden of disloyalty to the Emperor."

"Ah, where can we find such a talent?"

"Indeed, indeed, such a talent is hard to find," Sanguinius nodded approvingly.

Both their gazes moved together to the door of the Red Great Hall, their eyes seemingly piercing through the heavy door to look at Dante outside.

Bang! Damn!

A crashing sound rang out, as if someone in heavy power armor had fallen.

"..Lord Dante, I'm here to relieve you."

"Lord Dante? Lord Dante, why have you fainted??"

"Corbulo! Blood Priest! Quick! Lord Dante has died of old age!"

The panicked voice of Chapter Master Gabriel Seth of the Flesh Tearers rang out, urgently calling for a Blood Priest.

"I've always suspected you tampered with my gene-seed across time in the future. Otherwise, who can explain Seth's mouth?"

Sanguinius shrugged slightly, adopting a helpless and innocent expression.

"You're blaming me for your gene-seed problems?" Alexander glanced at Sanguinius. "Seth is a good man, but his mouth will be the death of him sooner or later."

Sanguinius gently shook his head, then pulled a document from the stack and handed it to Alexander.

"There's one more thing, Lager might not make it."

"..Who?" Alexander's expression was slightly odd. "Lager?"

"You're saying Lager is going to die?"

"Impossible. You were with me in Ashford; you know Lager's capabilities."

"Even if you died, I wouldn't believe Lager was going to die!"

Alexander's face was filled with disbelief.

"You take a look first," Sanguinius pointed to the document in Alexander's hand.

Alexander frowned and lowered his head to look at the document in his hand.

The more Alexander read, the more peculiar his expression became, finally murmuring,

"He didn't die on the spot??"
