The morning sun filtered weakly through the lingering fog of the Slumbering Weald. Dew glittered on the leaves, and tiny Pokémon calls echoed faintly between the trees. Niyah stretched beside the faint embers of her campfire, rubbing sleep from her eyes while Mimikyu swayed beside her, humming a tune only it could hear.
Roty's cheerful buzz interrupted the calm.
"Btzz, btzz, good morning, Niyah! New quest detected!"
A blue holographic screen flickered into view.

"Teleportation?!" Niyah gasped, eyes wide. "That would make travel so much easier! I don't really need unlimited Pc right now so… We're accepting this one, Roty!"
"Btzz, btzz, quest accepted." Roty buzzed.
[System Notification: Timer Started - 5 Hours Remaining, 4 Hour 30 Minute Warning]
Niyah packed her things quickly and glanced toward the misty trees. "Alright, Mimi, new mission find a way outta this forest. You ready, partner?"
Mimikyu hopped up, its fake Pikachu head bobbing. "Miii~!"
The two set off, following a faint dirt path tangled with roots and wildflowers. For a while, the journey was peaceful, until a small spark flashed across the ground ahead.
"Roty, what was that?" Niyah glanced towards the floating Pokédex curiously.
"Btzz, btzz, electrical readings detected… ah! Wild Grubbin - Level 11 approaching!"
From the undergrowth, a small orange-and-white bug Pokémon scuttled forward, its pincers crackling with energy.
"Perfect chance for a warm-up battle," Niyah said with a grin. "Alright, Mimi, you're up!"
Mimikyu floated forward, eyes glinting beneath its cloth disguise.
"Hurry and use Shadow Sneak before it has the chance to attack!"
Mimikyu disappeared into her shadow, before it stretched unnaturally across the ground, darting forward to strike Grubbin before it could react. The bug buzzed angrily and retaliated with a crackling Vice Grip, luckily fading through instead of clamping down on Mimikyu's cloth.
Hmm, alright the system was right, we need to work on getting away before the opponent can recover. We're not going to be lucky enough for the opponent to attack with a normal move every time, Niyah thought in contemplation.
"Mimi, get close, and then Draining Kiss, let's get some of that energy back!"
Glowing pink light pulsed between the two Pokémon, and Mimikyu perked up as Grubbin staggered. With one last Astonish, the Grubbin fainted, curling up gently on the forest floor.
"Nice work, partner!" Niyah cheered, giving Mimikyu a gentle head pat.
[EXP Gained!]
[Mimikyu grew to Level 14!]
I guess Mimi was already pretty close to the next level.
They continued on, chatting through Niyah's new telepathic link.
'So… how do we get out?' Mimikyu asked curiously.
"Uh, I was hoping since you live here that you'd know," Niyah responded with a sheepish grin.
Mimikyu's cloth head flopped to the side as if sighing. 'We're doomed'.
—
Two hours later, Niyah and Mimi's search for an exit had led them to a hollow log that Niyah jokingly dubbed their "Snack HQ." Inside were a few berries, a shiny bottle cap, and—unexpectedly—a very angry Skwovet - Level 13 with puffed cheeks the size of apples.
The squirrel Pokémon let out a furious squeak, tail flicking like a whip.
"Oh, uh, hi there little guy…" Niyah began, holding up her hands. "We didn't mean to—"
Before she could finish, Skwovet lunged, trying to snatch her bag!
"Mimikyu, quick, Double Team!"
Dozens of Mimikyu illusions burst into the clearing, darting and giggling through the mist. Skwovet froze mid-lunge, confused, spinning in a circle as it tried to figure out which one was real.
"Now, Astonish!"
A chorus of ghostly shrieks echoed as the real Mimikyu appeared behind Skwovet, startling it so badly it dropped the stolen berry it had grabbed. But Skwovet wasn't done yet, it puffed up its cheeks and unleashed a rapid Tackle, phasing fastly, though uselessly through several illusions in one blur of movement.
"Whoa, it's fast for a snack hoarder!" Niyah exclaimed. "Keep your distance, Mimi, let's slow it down with Thunder Wave!"
Sparks crackled through the air, wrapping around Skwovet in a web of golden light. It froze mid-step, muscles locking as static danced over its fur.
"Perfect, now let's go on the offensive! Wood Hammer!"
Mimikyu charged forward, the air glowing green as she brought down her tail surrounded with a wooden surge of energy onto Skwovet. The impact sent leaves flying, but Skwovet, stubborn as ever, clenched its tiny paws and retaliated with Bite, chomping down and breaking Mimikyu's disguise with surprising force.
"Ow! Hang on, Mimi, use Draining Kiss, now!"
Mimikyu's eyes flashed pink, and energy flowed between the two Pokémon in a swirl of glittering light. Skwovet's grip weakened as Mimikyu's strength returned.
But even paralyzed, the feisty squirrel wasn't giving up, it stuffed a stray berry from the ground into its mouth, healing a bit of its strength and glaring fiercely.
Niyah smirked. "Oh, you're a clever one, huh? Alright, Mimi show it what happens when you try to steal our snacks. Shadow Sneak!"
Mimikyu's shadow stretched along the forest floor and rose beneath the unsuspecting Skwovet, striking it square in the back. With a final squeak, Skwovet toppled forward, eyes swirling before fainting dramatically beside its berry stash.
[EXP Gained!]
Niyah smiled and bent down beside the downed Skwovet. "You earned that one, champ. No hard feelings."
Mimikyu danced happily, twirling in a puff of glittering dust.
Niyah grinned. "You're getting stronger every battle, huh?"
'Of course. I have an excellent trainer now,' Mimikyu teased telepathically.
"Aww, you're learning how to flatter me." Niyah smirked in amusement.
One and a half hour passed before the fog finally began to lift, and the sound of rushing water reached their ears. "A river! That means we're close to the forest's edge!" Niyah said excitedly.
Just as they approached, a sharp cry echoed above. A Rookidee - Level 14 swooped down, wings glowing white.
"Oh no you don't, Mimi use Thunder Wave!"
Sparks surrounded Mimikyu's body, before lashing out striking the bird mid-flight. The Rookidee stiffened and falling awkwardly to the ground, paralyzed.
We will also need to work on that, those sparks were not controlled. What if that Rookidee was the slightest bit faster? Niyah thought.
"Now, Shadow Sneak, quick!"
The attack landed cleanly, but Rookidee managed to retaliate with Peck, striking and breaking Mimikyu's disguise.
Noah gritted her teeth, "Try Shadow Sneak again, try to not get hit!"
Mimikyu once again surged forward concealed im shadows, this time neatly dodging the Rookidee's retaliating peck.
"You've got this, Draining Kiss one last time to get your energy back!"
Mimikyu glowed with soft light, restoring her energy as the Rookidee fainted, landing gently in the grass.
[EXP Gained!]
[Mimikyu grew to Level 15!]
Niyah crouched beside her partner, giving a proud smile. "You're amazing, you know that?"
'Obviously', Mimikyu replied smugly. 'I want to get better at Shadow Sneak, let's come back later!'
Niyah of course agreed, happy that Mimi is taking initiative to get better on her own.
They followed the river's path until the trees finally thinned, giving way to golden fields and distant rooftops. A signpost creaked in the gentle wind.
Welcome to Postwick.

"Btzz, btzz understood. Processing reward!"
A faint energy pulsed through her again, softer than before but far more focused. Her mind stretched outward, and for a fleeting second, Niyah could see herself from above, as though she were both here and somewhere else entirely.
"Whoa… this is incredible…"

Mimikyu tugged at her sleeve, looking up with its crooked smile. 'So… what do we do next?'
Niyah looked toward the distant hills and the path winding through them. "First we rest up in a bed, Mimi. Then we head back to the woods for some training."
The wind stirred the grass around them, carrying the promise of adventure, and a few playful giggles that faded into the morning light.
