Chapter 63 - Chapter 63: Waking Up to Find You Have a Black Leader

Du Mu watched for a while, then exited Steve's world.

He wasn't some kind of pervert; he wasn't interested in continuously staring at an American butt.

In any case, the monitoring work was primarily handled by other agents. Du Mu just needed to remain on standby and keep watch.

He found a good spot, pulled out a comic book, and activated AFK fishing mode.

"Poor Joker, getting beaten up by the evil Bat Man again."

The next day.

Du Mu received news that Steve was about to wake up and immediately rushed to Steve's world.

As soon as he reached the doorway, he heard a commotion inside!

Just moments ago, Steve had awakened from his coma.

The highly observant Super-Soldier had instantly seen through the carefully crafted simulation of "Steve's World," essentially speed-running what took Truman thirty years to accomplish.

When the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents attempted to calm Steve down, the soldier suddenly lashed out, cleanly and efficiently taking them down.

Following that, Steve bolted out of the fake scenario and immediately charged towards the room's exit.

Steve was fast; his legs were more nimble than those of a normal person. Who could have imagined this was a man of ice who had just woken up after seventy years in a coma?

"Get out of the way!"

Steve spotted Du Mu, who had appeared right in the doorway, and let out a low growl.

Du Mu chuckled. "My apologies, this road is closed."

Steve frowned, intending to force his way past, when he suddenly heard Du Mu shout loudly.

"Look out for my punch!"

Du Mu lunged forward and hit Steve with a left front kick!

Steve's eyes widened. He clearly hadn't expected Du Mu to be so dishonorable—not only did he launch a surprise attack, but he shouted "look out for my punch" and then threw a kick!

But his rich combat experience allowed him to react instantly, raising his forearms to block.

Bang!

A dull thud sounded.

A force far exceeding what he'd anticipated slammed into Steve's hands!

He felt an intense tremor and numbness in his arms. The impact sent him staggering backward uncontrollably, forcing him to retreat several steps before he managed to stabilize himself and dissipate the terrifying force.

Feeling the continuous numbness spreading through his arms, Steve's face was etched with astonishment and disbelief.

He had been injected with multiple doses of the Super-Soldier Serum, pushing all his physical capabilities to the pinnacle of human potential.

Yet Du Mu had casually knocked him back with a single kick!

Could this guy also be a modified human who took the Super-Soldier Serum?

With that thought, Steve immediately held nothing back.

He instantly adopted a standard fighting stance, stepped forward, and threw a punch. His fist tore through the air with a shriek, slamming toward Du Mu!

Facing the fierce punch, Du Mu merely shifted his body slightly, allowing the blow to graze past his nose.

But Steve didn't stop.

After the first miss, his subsequent offense came like a sudden, violent storm!

Aside from his peak human physical conditioning, Steve was a master of combat himself, proficient in multiple fighting styles—in Eastern terms, he had assimilated the strengths of many schools of martial arts, deploying various techniques effortlessly.

Although he had been asleep for nearly seventy years, this did not affect Steve's combat instincts in the slightest.

Unfortunately, no matter how exquisite Steve's fighting techniques were, they couldn't evade Du Mu's Shinigami Eyes.

All of Steve's attacks were easily dodged by Du Mu!

"Muay Thai warning!"

Du Mu seized an opening, bent his right arm at the elbow, and drove an elbow strike directly into Steve's chest!

He had intended to hit his face, but the opponent's full pectoral muscles were so captivating that he subconsciously elbowed toward them.

"Ugh!"

Steve couldn't react in time and took Du Mu's elbow strike full force, letting out a muffled groan. He was instantly sent flying, rubbing his aching pectorals with a look of distress.

Du Mu grinned. "Surrender, Steve Rogers."

Steve forced himself to ignore the pain in his chest, clenched his fists, and said seriously, "I can do this all day, you evil Hydra!"

Du Mu: "?"

What's going on? Has my identity been exposed?

In reality:

Steve's memory was still fixed on the moment right before his accident, which was just after defeating Hydra.

When he woke up, he found himself in a carefully arranged false scenario with unknown individuals attempting to deceive and subdue him. Naturally, he assumed this was all a Hydra plot and categorized Du Mu as an evil Hydra member.

Well, in a sense, Steve wasn't entirely wrong.

Just as the two faced off, rapid and dense footsteps came from outside the door. A large contingent of S.H.I.E.L.D. agents arrived, blocking the doorway completely and cutting off any chance of Steve's escape.

Seeing this formation, Steve's heart sank instantly.

So many Hydra members—he must have been kidnapped and brought back to the Hydra headquarters!

Without his specialized Vibranium shield, Steve had no confidence in defeating so many people, especially with the unfathomably powerful Du Mu standing right there.

"Don't be nervous, Steve Rogers. We're not your enemies."

A low voice sounded from behind the crowd.

The agents quickly parted, and Nick Fury, clad in his signature black leather trench coat, walked into the room.

He had received the news that Steve was about to awaken and had arrived on site just in time.

"Who are you?"

Steve looked at Nick Fury, who didn't look like a good guy, and became even more certain of his initial thoughts.

"I am Nick Fury, the current Director of S.H.I.E.L.D."

Nick Fury explained, "There may be some misunderstandings we need to clear up. Rest assured, this is not Hydra territory, and you have been asleep for nearly seventy years."

Steve: "?"

Subsequently, Nick Fury dismissed the agents, only keeping Du Mu, and began to explain the entire situation to Steve.

During this time, he specifically explained the origin of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s creation by Steve's first love, Peggy Carter, and his friend Howard Stark, among others, heavily employing an emotional appeal.

Du Mu couldn't help but sigh in admiration: Truly worthy of the name Black-Hearted Goose Egg! (referring to Fury's bald head and black eye patch)

To prevent Steve from disbelieving, Nick Fury personally took him out of the S.H.I.E.L.D. New York branch and showed him the outside world.

Only after seeing the completely changed world did Steve finally believe that he hadn't fallen into Hydra's lair and that he had truly slept for seventy years.

However, believing was one thing; accepting was another.

Facing this entirely strange new world, Steve's face was etched with undeniable disappointment and bewilderment, looking somewhat dejected.

Du Mu patted Steve's shoulder and offered comfort. "I understand. Waking up to find you have a black leader is indeed a little hard to accept."

Nick Fury: "..."

Did he really have to say that right in front of me?
