Chapter 82 - Chapter 82: The Leatherface Family

Chapter 82: The Leatherface Family

"What's wrong, boss?"

Ruby noticed Chris's brow furrowing, as if he was puzzling over something.

"Nah, it's nothing. Just that those two idiots back there gave me a serious sense of déjà vu, like I'd seen that exact scene somewhere before."

Chris shook his head to clear his thoughts and explained to Ruby with a slight smile.

"Oh, I see. Maybe you've run into reckless punks like them on the road before, boss. Young guys love pulling stupid stunts like that."

"Maybe you're right."

Listening to Ruby's reassuring words, Chris responded noncommittally.

Although he'd certainly encountered plenty of crazy young people during his travels through the Death God universe, with his current enhanced memory capacity, it was impossible for him to confuse random encounters.

He was certain that what those two kids had done was something he'd specifically seen in a movie before his transmigration.

However, it might have been too long ago, and even his enhanced brain was having difficulty retrieving that particular memory from his pre-transmigration life.

Chris pondered for a considerable time but couldn't recall which film it was from.

It wasn't until Chris had set the matter aside and both he and Ruby were approaching a truck stop to rest that a distinctive pickup truck drove past them in the opposite direction.

Hearing the unmistakable sound of a chainsaw roaring from inside the pickup bed, a flash of recognition struck Chris's mind, and he immediately ordered, "Turn around and follow that truck!"

Ruby didn't hesitate. She executed a perfect bootlegger's turn, then accelerated hard to catch up with the pickup.

Watching the truck ahead and hearing the chainsaw sounds carried on the desert wind, Chris said excitedly, "Ruby, I know where that déjà vu came from!"

Chris hadn't expected that the chainsaw murderer Ruby had mentioned earlier wasn't just the real-life prototype he'd assumed, but rather the actual plot of the movie he'd been thinking about.

And those two young men who'd given him that sense of familiarity were precisely the unlucky victims killed in the opening scene of the film.

If he hadn't coincidentally encountered these killer brothers and heard the sound of them revving their chainsaws for fun, Chris might have genuinely put the matter out of his mind entirely.

The truck followed the Leatherface brothers to an abandoned amusement park on the outskirts of some forgotten Texas town. Chris observed two men exit the vehicle—one was massively obese and wore a grotesque mask made from human skin, while the other was rail-thin and clearly completely unhinged.

Chris could hear the thin one loudly berating Leatherface: "You fucking moron! We were supposed to have a great hunting trip today!"

"Uh-oh-oh! Uh-ah!" Leatherface made incomprehensible grunting sounds in response.

"Idiot! Useless piece of shit! How dare you talk back to me!"

The thin brother—who Chris recognized as Chop-Top—began punching and kicking Leatherface, while the massive killer dodged like a scolded child, completely afraid to fight back despite his obvious size advantage.

Seeing the specific appearances and dynamics between these two, Chris was certain this was the plot of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2.

In the original story, those two young men had been targeted by Leatherface, then cut down with chainsaws and taken away as fresh meat for the family.

It just so happened that those punks had been harassing a radio DJ named Stretch while driving, and their deaths had been recorded over the phone line, which led to the subsequent investigation and story.

Chris's primary memories of this movie were twofold: first, that Leatherface—such a brutal, remorseless killer—would actually become captivated by the DJ's beauty and repeatedly let her escape. Second, there was that Texas Ranger in it—Lefty Enright—who for some inexplicable reason chose not to use his guns, but instead decided to fight Leatherface with a goddamn chainsaw. What the hell had he been thinking? Did he think he was filming a lightsaber duel from Star Wars?

Recalling some of the more absurd plot points from the film, Chris exited the truck along with Ruby.

"Boss, should we just blow this shithole up?"

Looking at the dilapidated amusement park ahead, Ruby had already emerged from the truck carrying a grenade launcher.

"Not yet. I need to confirm something with whoever's inside first. Let's go with close-quarters combat this time."

Hearing Chris's instructions, Ruby didn't return the grenade launcher to the truck. Instead, she simply drew an Army combat knife from her belt.

It was nighttime anyway, and Ruby's strength was at its peak. Carrying dozens of pounds of grenade launcher and ammunition was effortless for her, so there was no point worrying about the weight.

However, Chris suddenly had an amusing idea when he considered Ruby's identity as a former cannibal from a different horror movie.

Chris turned and walked back to the truck bed, then retrieved two heavy-duty chainsaws from their equipment.

He handed one to Ruby, then took the grenade launcher and combat knife from her, saying with a mischievous grin, "The opponent is a killer who specializes in using chainsaws, so let's also use chainsaws to compete with him. Make it sporting."

Although Chris had just been internally mocking the Texas Ranger for fighting Leatherface with chainsaws in the original film, he and Ruby weren't normal humans, so it didn't matter what weapons they used.

He genuinely wanted to see how significant the strength difference was between cannibalistic killers from different horror movie universes.

Although this universe couldn't be considered the authentic original universe of either film, but rather some kind of merged parallel reality, being able to witness a direct contest between different movie killers still excited Chris considerably.

Ruby obediently accepted the chainsaw, then pulled the starter cord. The engine roared to life as she strode confidently toward the Sawyer family's lair.

Whatever the boss instructed her to do, she would do without question. Ruby didn't believe her life would be in any danger with Chris present.

The two of them, carrying running chainsaws, arrived at a dimly lit entrance to what appeared to be an underground area beneath the amusement park, then stepped inside. The dual roaring sounds of their chainsaws immediately interrupted the squabbling Leatherface brothers.

"Quiet! Be quiet, both of you!" an elderly, gaunt man shouted authoritatively.

This was Drayton Sawyer—the eldest of the three brothers and nominal head of the family. But except for Leatherface, who obediently quieted down, the deranged middle brother Chop-Top completely ignored him.

"Are you giving orders? Hahahaha! In what capacity are you giving orders? As our big brother? Or maybe as our mama? Hahahahaha!"

Hearing his brother's mocking taunts, Drayton no longer paid attention to the strange chainsaw noises he'd just heard from outside. He directly retorted with rising anger, "I am the head of the Sawyer family! Why the hell can't I order you around? I go out and work every single day, selling our special chili and meat products at competitions.

What about you two? You stay home all day listening to that goddamn radio, and today you didn't even bring back a single victim! What the fuck else do you two useless assholes have to say for yourselves?"

"Uh-uh-ah! Oh-oh!" Leatherface made defensive sounds.

"Shut your mouth, you retard! What are you trying to argue? If I wasn't busting my ass supporting this family, you two freaks would've starved to death years ago!"

Hearing Leatherface attempt to defend himself, Drayton became even more enraged.

He raised the wooden stick in his hand, preparing to strike Leatherface across the face.

But before the Sawyer family could escalate into full internal conflict, Chris and Ruby had already walked into the underground chamber with their roaring chainsaws held ready.

"Whoops! Hope we're not interrupting family time!"

Chris grinned and said with obvious insincerity.

Seeing this chainsaw-wielding stranger who was even more powerfully built and taller than Leatherface, Drayton's raised arm stiffly lowered. He spoke with forced calm, "Look, buddy, this ain't funny. Just put down your toy and we can all walk away from this."

"Pffft—hahaha!" Genuinely amused by the mention of this guy selling human meat products at chili cook-offs, Chris chuckled and casually instructed Ruby, "Go ahead and trim this old bastard's limbs. Don't let him die though—not yet."

Ruby nodded silently, then raised her chainsaw and moved toward Drayton with mechanical purpose.

Chop-Top saw his opportunity and directly threw his own chainsaw to Leatherface, then launched himself toward Ruby like a crazed animal.

His movements were unnaturally swift and agile—like a feral creature—clearly enhanced by whatever dark power sustained the family.

Chris observed this and simply kicked out casually, sending Chop-Top flying backward. The thin man crashed heavily into a pile of garbage and rusted machinery with bone-breaking force.

At that moment, Leatherface caught the chainsaw his brother had thrown him. With his signature weapon in hand, his entire demeanor instantly transformed. He revved the chainsaw wildly, then charged toward Chris like a maddened bull—moving with surprising speed for his massive size.

Ruby registered Leatherface's crazed charge but ignored him completely, continuing to advance on Drayton. She raised her chainsaw and brought it down efficiently. Drayton immediately began screaming in agony as the blade carved through flesh and bone, his hands and feet being systematically severed, leaving him limbless and writhing on the blood-soaked floor.

But before Ruby had even finished her task, she noticed the strange grunting sounds behind her had suddenly ceased. When she completed Drayton's dismemberment and turned around, she discovered that Leatherface had, quite predictably, been split perfectly in half by Chris.

From head to groin, split evenly down the middle, the two halves spread out across the crimson floor in a grotesque display.
