Chapter 87 - Chapter 86 Born in the storm

The rain came down like the sky had split open.

Cold water poured into the pit in relentless sheets, splashing against my shoulders, my face, my eyes. The muddy water around my legs kept rising. It was at my waist, then my chest, and now it was lapping at my collarbone. I had to tilt my head back just to keep my nose above the surface.

I could barely feel my toes anymore.

My neck ached with the weight of Adrien. He was straddling my shoulders, his hands buried in my soaked hair, his tears mixing with the rain that poured down on us.

"Stay still, Adrien! Do not let go!" I gasped, the muddy water splashing into my mouth.

I was standing on the tips of my toes, praying the mud wouldn't shift.

If he slipped—

If he fell—

The water was already too deep for him.

Another wave of rain crashed into the pit.

The water climbed higher.
