This made Lady Eirene extremely jealous. Just hearing how people praised Olessia, calling her sweet names, had already fueled her dislike. She endured it in silence, but when Irielle gave the position to Olessia, something in her snapped.
"Lady Eirene, I asked you for over three months, and you never gave me an answer. I needed someone immediately," Irielle explained.
Lady Eirene already knew she would never accept the offer. The role had never interested her. She found it boring, slow, and beneath her attention, even with the money attached to it. She had delayed, avoided, and let time stretch.
But the thought of Olessia in that job unsettled her. It meant Olessia would stand beside high-ranking guests, speak for the court, be seen and acknowledged. Lady Eirene's fingers curled slowly.
"Whenever I asked you, you always said you would think about it," Irielle said calmly. "You have been thinking for three months, and you never gave me an answer."
