Deep in the continent of Idria lies a land of constant strife and disease. Within the endless battles lies foul creatures which call this land home. This so-called land has been named the darklands and is the central staging ground for the war between the two countries. The prejudice and conflict between the two has existed for centuries with neither side managing to gain any ground because mindless and hideous creatures that have inhabited the land since the dawn of time.Their blood lust and savage nature causing them to attack anything with a pulse because of this the two countries have to fight a war on two fronts leading to a century long stalemate. These amalgamations of cruelty and putrid flesh have been deemed "Dark Entities" and are ranked in tiers depending on their strength. Most dark entities are weak but come in hordes of hundreds which makes their threat great leading to armies being purged into chaos at the onslaught of the creatures.
Within the military of the two countries are humans with magical power and great strength. They are the main defense against the dark entities as a foot soldier is helpless when faced with one of the lowest tier. Magical humans or "Mages" which is the common slang for magical beings. Many magical beings will use some sort of catalyst for magic which can be in the form of a spell book or staff imbued with gems made of crystallized mana. Using either effectively takes years of training as the burden of these items is high and improper use will lead one's soul crumbling. Soul crumbling is caused by the high influx of mana stored in the magic items coursing through a person's body. Mana doesn't affect the body normally but in high doses it will damage the soul and cause the body to shut down as mana can be poisonous to anyone who hasn't had any training on how to effectively handle it. Due to the treacherous path of a mage, they are few and far between. Only numbering around twenty thousand in total on Idria.
Our story starts on the outskirts of the marshland in a military installation named "Snow's Rest." It is the main headquarters for the Moonlight Kingdom's strongest warriors, "Heaven's Hand" commanded by Major General Ellis von Snow. A hot headed and aloof woman with a childlike sense of humour, her attitude often calls her position into question but her countless victories and successes in war shuns all doubts. Many are shocked that the woman is the heir to the noble house Snow because of her attitude.
The Heavens Hand consists of the most elite swordsman and mages while their numbers are few. Their might has become a very nasty thorn in the side of the Sun Kissed Empire. Even tales of the Heaven's Hand will cause the rank and file soldiers to shake in their boots but this is not the same for everyone as many doubt these tales. Particularly, the mages and upper echelons of the Empire.
The Heaven's Hand is commanded by four key figures, one being Ellis von Snow. The three commanding officers under her (named by the public as the Heaven's Three) are handpicked for their strength which defies human limits. One of these three is Third Prince Lucian von Moonlight, or Lieutenant Lucian von Moonlight. Commander of one thousand troops in total, each one of Heaven's Three has one thousand troops with Ellis taking the remaining two thousands. In total, there are five thousand troops within Heaven's Hand.
Despite Lucian's great power, he is still looked down upon as only being in the Heaven's Three because of his status as a prince of the kingdom but the Heaven's Hand know better than to think this especially his personal unit.
A few miles away from Snow's Rest is where Lucian's unit is stationed. The Heaven's Three units are all stationed around Snow's Rest to ensure no dark entities can get close to the castle and also to look out for any enemies encroaching on them.
The Heaven's Hand is currently resting after a long expedition into enemy territory to gather vital information for future battle plans but while they may be down as resting. You can't truly rest in darklands, the survival rate is extremely low even for experienced warriors such as the Heaven's Hand.
