Wu Suo Wei had never been inside a mansion before.
Chi Cheng's home was more fortress than house—high walls, armed guards, security cameras everywhere. The inside was sleek & expensive,
Just like its owner.
"This is your room," Chi Cheng said, opening a door to reveal a massive bedroom. "Right next to mine. Connected by this door." He indicated an adjoining door.
"Why...connected?"
"So I can get to you quickly if there's a threat." Chi Cheng's eyes darkened. "And so you can't leave without me knowing."
"I'm a prisoner?"
"You're protected." Chi Cheng stepped closer, backing Wu Suo Wei against the wall. "There's a difference."
"I don't see one—"
"The difference is I'm keeping you alive." Chi Cheng's hand came up to cup Wu Suo Wei's face, thumb brushing his cheekbone. "The Zhao family has a hit out on you now. Anyone connected to me is a target. But here? Here you're safe. Here you're mine."
Wu Suo Wei's breath hitched at the possessive tone. "You can't just decide I'm yours—"
"I already have." Chi Cheng leaned in closer, his lips nearly touching Wu Suo Wei's. "You saved my life, Doctor. That makes you valuable. That makes you mine. And I don't let go of what's mine."
Before Wu Suo Wei could respond, Chi Cheng's phone buzzed. He answered it, his voice instantly cold and commanding.
"Report."
Wu Suo Wei couldn't hear the other side, but he watched Chi Cheng's expression darken.
"Handle it. Quietly."
He hung up. "I have business to attend . Stay in this room. Don't leave. Guo Cheng Yu will be outside your door."
"I'm definitely a prisoner—"
"You're alive." Chi Cheng's eyes flashed dangerously. "Remember that."
He left, and Wu Suo Wei sank onto the bed, his mind reeling.
What the hell had his life become?
