Chapter 15 - Unexplainable

Vaelor said, "That's exactly why I told you to do the work."

Perun scoffed. "Are you kidding me? I can get that strong just by working out. Anyway, I still have to prepare dinner."

The next day, both of them got ready. Perun wore the same black suit with the surveillance eyepiece. Vaelor was dressed in a simple white shirt.

They ate breakfast together. After that, Perun left for the mansion on foot to save money. The place wasn't very far, but he knew that after a long, draining day, he wouldn't have the energy to walk back at night.

Perun entered the mansion and met Michael. Michael was in a hurry—he had some work—so he spoke quickly.

"Melody wants to go to her maternal grandparents' house. Her mother is there right now," Michael said. "Take the car keys. She'll guide you. She'll stay there for a week, and you'll stay too. You're to protect her."

Perun blinked. "Huh… huh?"

"But sir," he said hesitantly, "I didn't tell my cousin I wouldn't be coming. He lives with me."

"You can use our landline," Michael replied.

"…Okay, sir," Perun said, unsure.

Michael left the mansion with a few files in his hand.

Perun stood in the hall, thinking about how he was supposed to tell Vaelor. He didn't even have his number.

Yeah… Serin, he thought. I can call Serin. She'll inform him.

Perun dialed the library number.

"Hello, this is Norus Public Library," Serin said.

"It's me, Perun," he replied.

He explained everything and asked her, "Tonight, please call my apartment landline and tell him."

"Okay, I'll do it," Serin said.

After the call, Perun went to Melody's room. She was wearing a ruffled shirt, slightly red, sitting in front of the mirror, fixing her makeup.

Once she was done, she picked up a small bag."If you don't mind, I can take it," Perun said."I'm fine," Melody replied.

Then they left together.

On the other side, Vaelor reached the police station and

At the police station, Vaelor met an officer named Welch, the assistant officer handling the case.

Vaelor didn't reveal his identity. Instead, he acted like a normal civilian. He casually mentioned an unknown house, never directly saying anything about a serial killer.

"There's a house," Vaelor said, giving the street address and tell him about house chaterstics. "Last night, while I was going out to pick up my cousin, I noticed something strange."

Welch listened silently.

"There were people there," Vaelor continued. "I heard cracking sounds, like something breaking. It scared me. Maybe they were thieves. You can file a report about it.

Welch nodded, but his expression was indifferent. He had already identified the house yet he ignored him, assuming that Vaelor was just get through that way during an ongoing investigation.

"You can give me your name," Welch said, "and I'll file a report."

Vaelor seek in his mind.Vaelor sensed the indifference. He's brushing me off, he thought.

What can I do?

Then an idea crossed his mind.

"You don't have to rush to conclusions," Vaelor said calmly. "They might be relatives. You could visit the site yourself and then decide whether to file a report."

Welch's eyes narrowed slightly.

This guy… Welch thought. Is he some private investigator? Maybe hired by a victim's family looking for revenge?

But then he dismissed the thought. Even if he is, I'm not going to tell him anything.

Vaelor frowned inwardly. Why isn't he thinking clearly? I've already used my power twice…

"Alright," Welch finally said. "I'll check it. You can go now."

Vaelor forced a smile. "Yeah… okay."

He stood up and walked toward the exit.

No… this won't work, he thought.

Suddenly, Vaelor turned back, walked close to Welch, and asked casually,

"Is that house connected to any serial killer case?"

That single question triggered Welch's memory.

The case file flashed in his mind into the case of Carter Han.

Vaelor instantly activated his power.

This time, he clearly saw the file pages inside Welch's thoughts.

Silva — Carter's sister. Married and moved to Wasten City, in the southern part of the Florith continent.

Nancy — his fiancée, who broke off the engagement for unknown personal reasons.

lives in maridona street.

Edin — a close friend who attended church with him. No address mentioned.

"What are you saying?" Welch snapped. "Serial killer? Are you some kind of investigator?"

Vaelor smiled lightly. "No, I just heard rumors about that house."

He asked Welch for a pen, quickly wrote something his palm, returned it, and left the police station.

Welch watched him go.

Was he really an investigator? Welch wondered. If yes, why didn't he say it directly? And what did he write on his hand?

He shook his head. I'm overthinking. That case is no longer mine. I should focus on my current work.

Vaelor reached Eagle Eye and met Truman.

"So," Truman asked, "did you find anything?"

Vaelor hesitated. How do I even explain this?

Instead, he said, "Why don't we talk to Carter's relatives?"

Truman sighed. "That file? Do you know who's heading the Norus Police now? Reinard Ron. He's competing with our boss. If they can't solve the case, they won't let us touch it. The file we requested is still in pending."

Vaelor nodded. "Well… I already know the relatives details."

Truman stared at him. "You joined yesterday, and now you're saying this?"

Vaelor replied calmly, "I couldn't stop thinking about the case all night. I pushed myself, and I'm confident.

Truman frowned. "How did you get that information?"

"I went to the police station," Vaelor said. "I met a officer named Welch."

"And he just gave it to you?"

"No," Vaelor said. "I spoke to him as a civilian… and ..."
