Chapter 1 - The System is Activated

In a parallel Earth, 5th February, 2453

A young man, 18 years old, suddenly opened his eyes in his room.

"What is going on? Am I alive or is this the afterlife?" he muttered in confusion.

He tried to stand up, but his entire body started to ache like hell.

"Ah! It hurts so much. So am I alive? But how is this possible? I clearly remember that my heart was directly pierced by that bastard. I killed him too… I guess so."

He sat up on his bed with great difficulty and started looking around. The room was familiar, yet unfamiliar to him.

"What's going on? How am I here? Nothing makes sense anymore."

He found a mirror in the corner of the room while thinking. So after much effort, he stood up with great difficulty and slowly walked toward the mirror.

When he looked into the mirror, he felt as if thunder had struck him at that moment.

Because the person in the mirror was not him, well, it was him, but a younger version.

He looked like this when he was around 16 to 18 years old, but he appeared paler.

"I am dreaming, right? This has to be a dream. I don't want to live this nightmare anymore. Please, king of the hell, don't torture me with this dream. I'll accept any other punishment."

But nothing changed. He was still there, in his younger body.

Suddenly, immense pain hit his brain.

"Ah!"

He fell to the ground with a thud.

After an unknown amount of time, Alex awakened.

The confusion in his eyes was gone now. They were clear because he had merged with new memories.

It was a parallel version of himself. This was not his old world but an entirely new one.

He did a rough calculation from his memory, and it seemed this Earth was 1,000 times bigger than the original Earth. It was similar to Earth, only a much larger version of it.

But that was not the most important thing in this particular memory.

The most important information was that this planet was now ravaged by mutated monsters.

About 300 years ago, this Earth had reached the epitome of it's technology. They had invented a space teleportation machine. It was a tremendous occasion for humanity.

They arranged a worldwide broadcast to show their success.

The machine started, and boom!

It blasted instantly.

And then a space rift appeared there. And a strange energy permeated through that rift.

Though the scientists were sad at first, they soon became extremely happy when they discovered that the strange energy could strengthen animals.

They planned to make use of this new invention.

But their happiness did not last long, because the mutation of those animals soon went out of control, and they began transforming into terrifying monsters.

Because the planet was huge, there were many vast forests and jungles. The wild beasts there became ferocious monsters.

The ancient bloodlines within their genes started to awaken, and those bloodlines became even stronger than before.

Even the domestic animals turned into monsters and killed their owners, causing havoc in the cities.

Earth was technologically advanced, so they managed to control the situation for some years.

But within 10 years, the monsters became so difficult to deal with that they could not be killed without nuclear weapons.

However, using those weapons was not an option, as they would destroy both humans and monsters.

They realized their mistake within five more years because, by that time, the monsters could not even be killed with nuclear weapons.

They destroyed hundreds of human cities and killed almost one-third of humanity.

So humans created specialized cities with weaponized walls.

All the country's government merged together to form a new government.

Humans fell from the top to the bottom.

But humans were the most resilient species. They evolved with the situation too.

The top scientists of the world came together to discover how to use that special energy to become powerful themselves.

After thousands of trials and errors, they developed a special breathing technique, which needed to be used with monster blood to absorb the special energy.

And the result was miraculous. Humans also started becoming stronger.

Two hundred and fifty years had passed since then, and the power system was now supremely developed.

Among humanity, there were now beings who could shatter an entire nation with a single punch.

But humanity still lived in fortress cities because not everyone could become gene warriors.

At first, they could not understand why some people could absorb energy and some could not. Then they found that certain humans were born with special genes that allowed them to absorb energy using the technique.

Even those genes had different capacities. Some were highly advanced, and some were low-level. The lower the level of the gene, the lower the talent.

After 300 years of this evolution, humans now tested their aptitude at the age of 18.

If they had an aptitude for energy, they would be graded as Low, Medium, High, Top, or Legendary.

Low had 1 unit of energy absorbing rate.

Medium had 3 units.

High had 9 units.

Top had 27 units.

Legendary had 81 units.

There was a very strange relation between them.

There were also warrior realms:

Gene Warrior

Gene Master

Gene Grandmaster

Gene Commander

Gene King

Gene Emperor

Gene Saint

Saints were the supreme powerhouses of the world. They could shatter a continent with ease.

But even with all this evolution, humanity still could not enter the Monster Continent—the place where the rift was located.

That place remained a total mystery to humanity.

Finally, Alex stopped thinking about all this.

"Mom and Dad are still alive," Alex's eyes filled with tears.

They had not died in this world, and they were both Medium-level Gene Warriors—a very respected family.

In his other life, he became an orphan at the age of 12 and lived an inhuman life since then. It became worse by the time he turned 24 years old.

One day, he saw a bastard was trying to harm a woman, so he tried to help her.

But it was just a preplanned act by that couple.

They tried to kill him to sell his organs. The man stabbed a knife into his heart.

But before he fell into darkness, he slashed his pocket knife at their necks in one swift motion and got them both with a single swing.

That was how the story of his past life ended.

Here, he had been tested with a low-grade aptitude. So he became obsessed with cultivation, trying to become stronger like those with higher talents than him, and he eventually died from overwork.

"Sigh! I am always a loser in every universe, I see."

"The good thing is that at least Mom and Dad are still alive, and they earn good money. I'll be able to live a normal life."

But that was only his dream—nothing else. Because at that moment, he heard a ding sound in his head.

[Ding! Limitless Evolution System is activated. All limits of your body are vanished from now on.]
