Chapter 1 - The Power of Excalibur!

Nate used to think when he died he'd be granted peace, but instead upon his death he was immediately thrust in front of Excalibur the local living legend from the manga Soul Eater.

"FOOL!" The small white creature had reflexively said upon Nate's sudden transmigration into its soul realm. Nate looked around worriedly unsure as to where he'd ended up after his sad and meaningless death.

"Who're you calling a fool? Where are we?" Nate said rubbing the back of his head, which had hurt like someone had drove a semi over it. He figured since he couldn't really remember what had happened perhaps someone had done just that.

He looked around the white void they both found themselves in that seemed to stretch on for miles and miles with nothing around them.

"Who would ask me the great Excalibur such a FOOLISH question?! Well I guess the answer to that is you haha." Excalibur said as he danced around Nate, and finishing by going around Nate before he could stop him doing a mocking summersault of his head.

"Ugh what the hell, Is this hell? Is this my personal version of hell?" Nate said swatting away Excalibur. "Wait" Nate silently said to himself, "did he say his name was Excalibur? Like King Arthur Excalibur?"

"FOOL! Why has it taken you this long to put this together? Of course I am the legendary Excalibur...from legend." Excalibur began trotting around Nate again as if he had somewhere to go but no way to get there.

"Now, I'm very busy so can we hurry this along?!" Excalibur shouted. "Hurry, and kneel before me so I can bestow upon you my awesome power and we can get this show on the road FOOL!"

"Hurry what along?" Nate asked as he finally crouched down to the white creature's head (is it really a head?) level to better conversate with him.

Nate was slowly getting exasperated with Excalibur's antics.

"Look I'm just trying to figure out if this is where I have the spend the rest of eternity, or however long I have to stay here...which I hope isn't long." Nate said the second part of his sentence quietly and mostly to himself to avoid triggering Excalibur's wrath.

Excalibur cleared his throat and his voice took on a slightly more serious manner, at least as serious as the funny looking creature could muster.

"With this act of ultimate good, from me, the almighty Excalibur, you! Nate Williams shall have almighty power, riches, women, and everything else man has dreamt of over the millennia." That is when Excalibur got to his tippy toes, leaned in close to Nate's face and planted a kiss right in the center of his forehead.

And oh boy was it a slimy one.

"EWWWWW. Disgusting" Nate said as he pushed the creature away from him and stood up rubbing the slime from Excalibur's mouth off his forehead in a scathing panic.

"FOOL! I have just bestowed onto you power men have only dreamed of, from this moment on you shall be the new host of Excalibur!!!" Excalibur said all of this in a grand gesture, full of cane swinging and jumping, and back flips...but sadly noticed Nate was still too busy cleaning his face off to notice.

"Hrrrgh, I should kick your ass--" Nate began to say, looming over the creature as if he were a great beast and Excalibur were his prey. Despite the fact that this could not be further from the truth.

Before Nate could think an all encompassing glowing yellow light began to envelope both he and Excalibur.

The white void they found themselves in had begun to warp and change around them. Nate, against his better judgement, stepped even closer to Excalibur.

He was trying to get away from the white walls of morphing energy. When suddenly Excalibur took him by the hand.

"FOOL! Why are you scared? Everything in your life is about to change!"

"In 3...2...1..."

The world went black....

Nate awoke to the feeling of sand on his backside and the sun's rays on his face. He sat up and looked around whilst holding his head, which now hurt even more. Nate figured this most likely wasn't heaven, but it didn't feel like hell necessarily either.

That probably meant he was somewhere on earth, maybe he'd been reincarnated? He looked down at his clothes and saw he was wearing a rather pristine white suit. Save for some of the dust and sand that now dirtied up his back the suit looked brand new.

Nate looked down the road and realized the thing he could see in the distance was some sort of large city, surrounded by nothing except barren sandy desert. The city was a tall mess of buildings that stretched high above the ground from his perspective. A coloring of black, red, and gray decorated most of the buildings.

Even from as far away as he was, Nate could tell this wasn't your run of the mill city. No this was something far stranger.

With nothing better to do Nate picked himself up and began drudging towards the city. Not for any particular reason he figured, simply because he had nothing else better to do in this situation.

About an hour later Nate finally got to the lower level of the city and began walking past a few barren buildings. He walked up to the window of one and took a look at himself in it.

The first thing he realized was that his short brown hair had been replaced with medium length starkly white locks. He'd figured wherever he was, some sort of transformation was probably par for the course. He didn't remember anything in particular about whatever past life he'd come from and he didn't particularly care.

But as he looked into the window he saw something else someone else standing behind him that he could barely make out. He leaned in closer to look at what it was.

...it was Excalibur!?

Excalibur walked closer in the window causing Nate to look behind him in a panic, not wanting to be anywhere near the strange creature. To his surprise though no one was behind him, not Excalibur or anyone else.

He looked back to the window, only to hear "FOOL!" from within his mind.

He was so sick of this little imp creature that he threw his hands onto his head and began pulling at his own hair.

"Ughhhh Where am I, and what are you? Why do you keep following me?!?"

A girl rounded the corner as Nate was yelling to himself in the window.

"Why, you're in Death City of course."

Maybe it was out of habit of being what her friends called a know-it-all, maybe it was just to help out someone who was obviously in distress. Nate turned around the face to see who'd said those words.

As Maka Albarn stood right in front of him.
