Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: Mega Digivolution! WarGreymon! MetalGarurumon! Descend!

The light-screen shifted again.

Angewomon slowly raised her sacred bow.

The longbow, woven of golden photons, drew full like a crescent moon.

An arrow formed on the string. Its tip was not sharp. It was a soft glow packed with a vast, heart-stopping power of light.

Its target was not the distant Demon Lord.

Its target was Tai.

On the other side, Angemon lifted the holy staff on his right arm.

At its tip, golden radiance flowed, and an arrow likewise formed entirely from pure energy.

In that arrow pulsed the heartbeat of Hope.

Its target was Matt.

Silence.

All held their breath. It felt like a giant invisible hand clenched every heart, stopping the beat.

Were they… really going to do this?

Use the angels' strongest power to strike their own comrades?

Kari clenched her little fists. She looked up at Angewomon floating in midair and poured everything into a cry from the soul.

"Angewomon!

Please give my brother… strength!"

T.K. also lifted his head. Tears welled but did not fall.

He looked at Angemon. His voice shook with feeling, yet brooked no doubt.

"Angemon!

Please protect my brother!"

The instant the words fell—

Fwoosh!

Two arrows—different yet both holy—left the strings together.

No shrieking as they tore the air. No world-crushing force.

They simply became two streaming lights, one pink, one gold, moving at a steady, irresistible speed across the night shrouded by darkness.

In every wide, bloodshot eye—

The pink Arrow of Light hit, unerring, the Crest of Courage on Tai's chest.

The golden Arrow of Hope struck, dead center, the Crest of Friendship on Matt's chest.

[Cyber Sleuth World]

Kyoko paused with her coffee.

Her brows lifted slightly.

"I see. That's the reading?"

"Package the holy power as a data payload, transmit directionally in the form of 'arrows,' then inject via the Crests as 'ports' into designated recipients."

"Genius… and insane."

Beside her, Nokia flushed, fingers clenched at her chest.

"Waaah! It hit! It really hit!"

"I knew it! Izzy is the best!"

"Use a friendly-fire attack to pass power—what a god-tier play! So cool!"

Arata leaned on the wall, hands in his pockets, a flicker behind his lenses.

"Tch. Reckless."

He said it, but the corner of his mouth twitched upward.

"Bet life and hope on a guess in one instant.

Only idiots make that kind of call… and it's… so blinding it's infuriating."

[Pokémon World]

"Whoa! Awesome!"

Ash's eyes blazed, fists pumping.

"Use a finisher on your own teammate and power them up! A whole new tactic? Pikachu, let's try Thunderbolt on—"

"Pika… chu…"

On his shoulder, Pikachu shook his head like a rattle, tiny paws waving frantically. Hard no.

"Give it a rest, Ash," Misty groused. "Is battling the only thing in that head?"

"This isn't tactics," Brock said, suddenly stern.

"It's the apex of bonds."

"Trust at a hundred percent, beyond species and reason. You hand over your life with zero doubt."

"That kind of feeling… is moving."

Dawn and May's eyes were red.

"Tai and Matt… they're amazing."

"Uu… This is perfect brotherhood and war-buddy trust!"

Professor Oak whipped out his Pokédex, snapping photos of the screen, muttering nonstop.

"Incredible! Truly incredible!"

"Energy transfer and amplification! A medium called 'Crest' achieves cross-species resonance!"

"This topic… is monumental! If we crack this, Pokémon battles would be reshaped!"

[Digimon Tamers World]

"So this is… the seniors' fight?"

Takato's jaw dropped. His pen fell to the floor.

He watched the two figures struck by light arrows. His worldview tilted.

"No Card Slash… no data reading…"

"Just a sentence and a look, and you hand over your fate…"

Guilmon poked his shin.

"Takato, that brother got shot by an arrow. Will he turn into bread?"

"Of course not!"

Rika folded her arms, face cool, but waves roiled in those violet eyes.

"Tch. What nonsense…"

She muttered.

"But…"

"To pull off nonsense like that… I'm jealous."

Renamon glanced sideways and said nothing. Her tail swayed once.

Henry rubbed his brow; his "processor" felt near overload.

"Theoretically impossible. Energy forms and attributes differ; forced injection should corrupt data."

"But… prophecy, Crests, and their 'trust'—these unquantifiables appear to have created a miracle."

Ryo whistled, grinning like a rogue.

"Who cares if it's logical? It's stylish and that's enough!"

"That's partnership! Right, Veemon?"

[Digimon Savers World]

"Ha! Interesting!"

Marcus Damon lit up, fighting blood boiling.

"So there's a style like this? Take a punch and power up?"

He whirled to Agumon S., thumbs up.

"Agumon! You see that? That's a real man's way to fight!"

"Next time we brawl, skip Pepper Breath—warp to ShineGreymon and hit me with a Gaia Energy blast!"

"You got it, Boss!" Agumon S. cheered.

Nearby, Thomas's mouth twitched. His blood pressure spiked.

"You two idiots, stop it! That is not the same thing! You'll die!"

On high thrones, Gallantmon, Alphamon, Craniummon, and the Royal Knights watched in silence.

"Human 'emotion'… Courage and Friendship…"

A deep fire flickered in Craniummon's hollow gaze.

"They became keys to holy power, even… bending the laws of evolution."

Alphamon said nothing, but his cloak stirred without wind.

He pondered.

A 'miracle' driven by emotion, not World Tree code—should it be sanctioned, or corrected?

[Digimon Adventure 02 World]

"Waaah! Seniors, that was sick!"

Davis jumped to his feet, pointing at the screen.

"Shoot your own teammate! Cooler than my Flaming Fist!"

Veemon shadow-boxed.

"Davis! Next time let me shoot you!"

"…Better not," Ken said dryly, eyes complex as he watched the two.

Having once been swallowed by darkness, he knew best how precious bonds were.

"Entrust hope to comrades. Expose your back to them…"

"That level of trust, I…"

He glanced at Wormmon. Wormmon's clear eyes were on him.

"Ken…"

"Mm." Ken reached to gently pat his head.

"We can do it too."

Far off, BlackWarGreymon stood alone. His red optics locked on what was coming.

"Crests… bonds… the human heart…"

"So that's… what I lack?"

"So that's… why that Agumon is stronger than me?"

In a higher dimension, Azulongmon's colossal head pushed through cloud, golden eyes reflecting the vision.

"The gears of fate begin to turn."

"The will that guards the world has found its vessels."

[Xros Wars / Fusion — Mikey Kudo]

"T…this…"

Mikey's breath hitched.

"Not DigiXros…"

"Not simple power stacking…"

"It uses the human 'heart' as core, fusing the Crests' will and angelic power, then injecting it into the partners!"

Shoutmon yelled, aflame. "Mikey! This is a cry beyond soul! So hot-blooded!"

Angie and Jeremy were speechless now.

They only stared at the screen—at the two boys shrouded in light, at the Crests blazing to the limit.

This was beyond anything they understood about Digimon battles.

[Digimon Adventure tri. World]

"Hmph."

Alphamon gave a cold snort.

"A reckless gamble."

Jesmon said nothing. In his data-forged pupils, the twin arrows reflected.

He seemed to calculate… or simply witness.

The World Tree's proxy, disguised as Gennai, wore a meaningful smile.

"Look. What a lovely 'possibility.'"

"Uncontrolled. Unpredictable. Yet always birthing miracles."

"That is humanity… most troublesome, and most interesting."

Tri-Tai watched the younger him on the screen shove Matt toward Angemon without hesitation, then stand calm to receive Angewomon's arrow.

That version of himself…

Why so decisive?

Why so certain?

Beside him, WarGreymon sensed the flicker of doubt in his partner and rumbled low.

"Tai…"

The footage turned again.

At the instant the Arrow of Light and the Arrow of Hope struck—

Vmmmmm—!

Both Crests detonated with light brighter than the sun.

The orange-red blaze of Courage and the cerulean glow of Friendship speared the sky, pushing back swathes of Odaiba's darkness.

A vast energy beyond imagining surged through the Crests, then through Tai and Matt's Digivices, flooding into Agumon and Gabumon.

"Yaa—!"

"Woo—!"

The two Rookie Digimon roared, pained and suppressed.

Two utterly different torrents wrapped their bodies whole.

They had no time to pass through Champion and Ultimate.

Twin holy powers.

The iron wills named Courage and Friendship within the Crests.

Together, they pried open evolution's locks and shoved them across stages in a single leap—straight to the summit.

Warp Digivolve!

"Agumon, warp digivolve to—!"

Tai raised his Digivice. An orange-red pillar of light punched the clouds.

Agumon's body elongated and re-formed within crimson fire.

Data-bones exploded outward. Grim metal armor plated his head, chest, and shoulders.

Behind him, a shield engraved with the Crest of Courage flared open—into twin blades that could soar the skies or cleave foes.

The small, homely figure was gone.

In its place stood a Mega, a Dragon-Man Digimon clad in super-metal Chrome Digizoid, wielding Dramon Destroyers across arms—a fusion of dragon and man:

WarGreymon!

"Gabumon, warp digivolve to—!"

Matt raised his Digivice. A cerulean pillar crossed the first.

Gabumon's form was swallowed by ice-blue cold.

His proud pelt disassembled, recombining into silver-white mechanical armor over limbs and trunk.

Everywhere on his body, weapons deployed.

Behind, massive jet wings extended with a thunderous roar.

The gentle beast form was gone.

In its place stood a Mega, a Cyborg Digimon of total metallization, jet-backs spread, countless guns hidden within:

MetalGarurumon!

KR-ROOM!

WarGreymon dropped from the sky. His feet slammed into cracked asphalt. The shockweb split the street, gravel geysering.

MetalGarurumon hovered aloft, cold optics locking on the distant colossus, a low, murderous growl rolling from his throat.

Two newborn Megas. One aura burned like fire. One cut like ice.

Their twin powers smashed against VenomMyotismon's bottomless darkness, throwing off visible ripples—transparent shockwaves expanding in rings.

The new partners were familiar and yet new.

A battle-scarred dragon warrior. A steel wolf bristling with armament.

Tai and Matt traded a glance.

Amid buffeting gusts and deafening roars, both drew the same smile—filled with resolve and trust.

The kids knew.

The real showdown had just begun.

This time, they finally held power enough to stand against the Demon Lord as equals.
