Chapter 162 - Hospitality

Something wet pressed against my lips and it felt so uncomfortable, as if someone was trying to put something into my mouth.

Wait…

My body jerked upright before my mind could catch up, and my eyes snapped open to an unfamiliar ceiling and a strange room. My heart lurched in my chest as panic slammed into me.

Where am I?

A sudden sound of something falling to the ground reached my ears with a sharp crack.

"Oh! Oh dear, I am so sorry! I didn't mean—"

I looked at the owner of the voice.

A woman sat frozen in a chair right beside the bed I was apparently on. She had one hand raised, trembling, fingers wrapped around a wooden spoon. Her eyes were wide with fright, and her entire body was rigid like she was afraid to move.

My breath came in short, sharp gasps.

The woman slowly lowered the spoon, still shaking. "I am so sorry," she said again, her voice high and apologetic. "I didn't mean to startle you. You just—you weren't waking up, and I…"

I barely heard her.
