"Oh," I just whispered.
I wasn't sure what else to even say.
We stood there, staring at each other across the space. Then she turned and headed back into the corridor.
"Follow me," she said over her shoulder. "I'll show you to your room."
I hesitated for only a moment before my legs moved automatically. "Thank you," I managed quietly.
The corridor suddenly lit up with those same glowing stones. Paintings of landscapes mostly lined the walls on both sides.
"You know," Astrid said conversationally, not looking back at me, "even though you're wearing my old clothes, it would be rather unbecoming to be dressed so casually within the Supreme Alpha's residence here. Especially now, with dignitaries and special guests from other packs arriving today."
My steps faltered slightly as we came to a larger hallway lined with doors.
She stopped before a door, her hand on the handle, and finally looked at me properly. "I'll need to dress you appropriately."
