Chapter 100 - Chapter 100: The Source of Darkness—Dark Towers

Flamedramon is a Dragon Man–type Armor-level Digimon that Veemon Armor Digivolves into using the Digi-Egg of Courage. The Digi-Egg of Courage holds the power of flame; when Veemon uses this Digi-Egg, his close-combat ability surges like a blazing fire, letting him smash enemy Digimon with overwhelming strength.

His signature technique is Knuckle Fire, striking the enemy with fists wreathed in flames.

His special move is Fire Rocket, where all the flames covering his body turn into a rocket that smashes the enemy to pieces.

(Knuckle Fire – attacks the enemy with flaming fists.)

The red-eyed Monochromon charged straight at Flamedramon, its massive body pounding the ground so hard the earth itself shook. The horn on its head shot forward like a lance, aiming to skewer Flamedramon where he stood.

"Armor Digivolution, huh?" the Digimon Emperor sneered. "Don't think that's enough to win."

Flamedramon leapt, flipping through the air to avoid Monochromon's charge, but the instant he landed, another Monochromon rushed him from behind and slammed into him full force. He was sent flying, smashing through several large trees in a row before finally coming to a stop. Flamedramon tried to get back to his feet, but after such a heavy hit he couldn't stand up again right away. The Monochromon raised its massive hoof, intending to pin him to the ground.

"Tentomon, go help him!" Izzy hurriedly lifted his Digivice to send his partner into the fight.

"Got it!" Tentomon nodded. "Tentomon Digivolve to… Kabuterimon!"

But nothing happened. Tentomon was still Tentomon.

"How is that even possible? He can't Digivolve?" Izzy was stunned.

"Heh heh heh… Inside the range of my dark influence, you can forget about Digivolving at all. Hahaha!" the Emperor's arrogant laughter echoed through the base.

"Lightning Paw!" Gatomon's fist slammed into Monochromon's leg, knocking it off-balance so it crashed to the ground.

"You okay, Flamedramon?" Gatomon asked, worried.

"I'm fine," Flamedramon said, springing back up. He grabbed the fallen Monochromon, spun it around in a circle, and hurled it into the sky, then leapt after it with a powerful jump.

"Fire Rocket!"

The flames on Flamedramon's whole body turned into a rocket as he slammed into the black gear-like Dark Ring on Monochromon's back. The Dark Ring shattered instantly.

"Lightning Paw!"

Gatomon dodged the other Monochromon's horn with agile footwork and smashed the Dark Ring on its back with a single punch.

Freed from the Dark Rings' control, the two Monochromon returned to their naturally gentle temperaments, obediently lying down so Kari could pet their heads. Yolei even worked up the courage to reach out and stroke them a few times.

Afterward, enveloped in orange light, Flamedramon turned back into Veemon. The orange glow flew back into Davis's blue D-3 Digivice, then shot out again as a beam of light into Davis's pocket. He reached in and pulled something out—it was a D-Terminal, and on its screen a Digi-Egg icon was displayed.

"Looks like I'll have to start taking this game seriously," the Digimon Emperor said with a smile that didn't reach their eyes.

Behind them, a Digimon crawled into the room.

"Ken," it said. It was Wormmon.

Wormmon is a timid, cowardly Rookie-level Larva Digimon. Like Veemon, he's a descendant of an ancient species, so he can use the power of Digi-Spirits to Armor Digivolve and unleash incredible strength. It's said that just as a fragile larva can grow into a powerful adult, one day Wormmon will Digivolve into a formidable Champion. His special move Nebenebe Net spits out a sticky, web-like silk that seals the opponent in place, and Silk Thread fires threads as thin as hair with needle-hard tips.

After seeing the two Monochromon off with a wave, the kids turned their attention back to the problem of why Tentomon hadn't been able to Digivolve. Yolei and Cody, meanwhile, crowded around Davis, curiously examining Veemon and the D-Terminal in Davis's hands.

"Why couldn't Tentomon Digivolve just now?" Izzy muttered, baffled.

"Patamon, you try," T.K. said, holding up his Digivice toward his partner.

"Okay, T.K.!" Patamon nodded. "Patamon Digivolve to… Angemon!"

But when the light faded, Patamon was still Patamon—he hadn't changed at all.

"I can't Digivolve either…" Patamon said, looking utterly crestfallen.

"Then why was Davis's Veemon able to Digivolve?" Izzy glanced over at Davis and the others who were huddled together.

"I think Davis shouted 'Armor Digivolution' just now," Kari said, trying to remember.

"That's right," Tai cut in. "What Davis and Veemon did was definitely an ancient form of Armor Digivolution. As for why our Digimon can't Digivolve… we'll probably have to ask that thing."

As he spoke, Tai pointed at the Dark Tower standing nearby.

"That thing?"

Everyone's gaze shifted to the looming, jet-black tower that felt completely out of place in the Digital World's scenery.

Izzy tapped away on his laptop, analyzing the Dark Tower. "Found it. That thing is emitting a kind of wave that disrupts the power transmission from our Digivices. That's why our Digimon can't Digivolve. And this waveform is the same as the one coming from the Dark Rings on Monochromon's backs."

"So does that mean our Digimon won't be able to fight from now on?" T.K. asked, sounding more than a little dejected.

"T.K…" Patamon didn't know how to comfort his partner.

Davis and the others walked over just in time to hear that line and had no idea what to say either.

Seeing the mood turning heavy, Yolei hurried to change the subject. "It's getting pretty late. We should probably head back."

"Yeah, I have to be home before dinner," Cody agreed.

Wrapped in light once more, the group of kids tumbled back into the computer lab in a heap.

"All right, it's already evening—everyone should head home," Tai said, standing up and glancing at the sunset outside.

"Hey, big bro, you're here," T.K. said when he saw Matt coming in with his guitar on his back.

"Sorry, I'm late," Matt apologized.

Once everyone had made it, Sora hopped down from a desk and said wistfully, "It's really been a long time since we were all together like this."

Tai told them everything that had happened today, especially the part about Armor Digivolution.

"Armor Digivolution?!" Matt was taken aback.

"Yeah. It's a new kind of evolution. Tentomon and the others couldn't Digivolve at all, but Davis's Digimon did," Izzy explained.

"Davis from the soccer club went to the Digital World?" Sora asked. She'd been his senpai on the team.

"The Yolei in my apartment building, and Cody too, both have the same new type of Digivice as Davis," T.K. added.

"So those three are the new DigiDestined?" Joe, ever the studious one, summarized.

"I think so," Izzy said, though he still didn't sound completely certain.

"But if that so-called Digimon Emperor keeps hunting Digimon like this, won't Biyomon and the others be in danger? They can't Digivolve anymore," Sora said, clearly worried about her partner.

"Mimi sent me an email from America too," Kari added. "She said she's really worried about Palmon's safety."

Tai got to his feet and looked around at everyone's worried faces. "If you're all that worried about your Digimon, then let's go back to the Digital World together."

"Yeah. I'm going," Sora said with a smile.

"Sorry… I've got a nationwide mock exam tomorrow," Joe said, sounding guilty.

"I skipped band practice today just to come here, so tomorrow I…" Matt trailed off, unable to finish.

"I get it. Then leave it to us," Tai said confidently.

"Thanks, Tai."

Cody was practicing kendo, but from his form it was obvious his mind wasn't on it at all. We're going back to the Digital World tomorrow… I wonder if I'll get my own Digimon like Davis, he thought.

Davis lay on his bed tossing a soccer ball up and down, but his thoughts kept drifting back to the little guy he'd met that day, the one who called himself his partner. I wonder how he's doing now…

Tonight was destined to be a sleepless one for these newly chosen children.

The next day after school, the kids gathered again in the computer lab. Izzy had gotten there early and was already waiting when Tai, Sora, Kari, T.K., and Davis arrived. Davis, Cody, and Yolei all proudly held up their blue, red, and yellow D-3 Digivices. Sora examined them closely.

"So these are the new Digivices?"

"They're the three Digivices that came out of the Courage Digi-Armor," Tai explained beside her.

"Then let's hurry up and get to the Digital World," Yolei said excitedly.

Izzy had already checked every computer in the lab. "Only this one can display the Gate to the Digital World. And the Gate opening two days in a row—that's never happened before."

Davis huffed impatiently on the side. "Come on, let's just go over there first and figure it out later!"

Everyone raised their Digivices toward the monitor. Beams of light shot out, enveloping them all, and they vanished from the computer room. This time they arrived on a grassy plain.

"Biyomon!"

"Tentomon!"

Everyone started calling their Digimon's names, hoping they'd hear them.

And sure enough, the moment the kids arrived, the Digimon Emperor detected them.

"Heh heh… I've been waiting for this. Let's start the game. Go, Snimon."

"Veemon, where are you? Veemon!" Davis shouted at the top of his lungs.

"Davis! Davis!" came Veemon's voice from the distance. Behind him were everyone's partner Digimon.

"Sora, I missed you so much!"

"Biyomon!"

Just then, a shadow fell over them and blotted out the sun. Everyone looked up to see a Snimon with a Dark Ring around it diving straight toward Sora.
