Chapter 73 - Chapter 73: The Immortal Herb Catalogue

Chapter 73: The Immortal Herb Catalogue

"Looks like having a powerful background isn't always a blessing."

After listening to Mo Xue recount her past, Ye Lüsù couldn't help sighing.

As someone born a commoner, he had always believed that having a strong clan behind him would make the path of cultivation much smoother. But now, he realized it wasn't that simple.

At the very least, Mo Xue absolutely didn't want the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect as her "background." Losing her mother was already tragic enough, and now she had to endure the cold stares of academy students because of her martial soul.

After Lin Beiya introduced Mo Xue to the rest of the team, everyone welcomed her—except for Yu Quan, whose expression was slightly stiff. After all, everyone knew the reputation of the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Pagoda martial soul.

As for the political tension between sects, Lin Beiya had brought Mo Xue into the team himself. Naturally, he would shoulder the responsibility.

"Boss… this…"

"What is it? Spit it out."

Yu Quan crept up beside Lin Beiya, whispering like a thief. Lin Beiya glared at him, signaling him to speak plainly.

"The Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect openly supports the Heaven Dou Empire. They've been suppressing Spirit Hall's influence in the secular world for years. Even if Mo Xue is estranged from the sect… she still has the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Pagoda martial soul!"

Yu Quan didn't finish the sentence—but the implication was clear.

What if this woman was planted by the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect?

What if Ning Fengzhi and his daughter were acting out a little show together, placing a spy within Spirit Hall's tournament team?

Lin Beiya shook his head. He had considered the possibility, but Mo Xue's raw hatred when mentioning Ning Fengzhi was absolutely not an act.

And even if her acting was good, he had the Demon Illusion Fist. If needed, he could turn a fake chess piece into a real one within minutes.

"Relax. If anything happens, I'll handle it. The only thing you all need to worry about is winning the tournament."

Yu Quan nodded. He didn't argue further. He knew Lin Beiya well—though eccentric, he never acted impulsively. Every step he took had a purpose.

Since Lin Beiya trusted Mo Xue, he could happily enjoy the boost from the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Pagoda martial soul.

With the auxiliary soul master position settled, only the substitute slots remained—and there was no rush.

The advanced academy's curriculum was far more relaxed compared to the junior academies. Most of the time was left for students to arrange as they pleased since all basic theory had long been taught.

From this point on, soul power and actual combat were the real priorities.

Having sorted out the team composition, Lin Beiya tossed all coordination training to Ye Lüsù—the perfect "tool senior." As the primary control-type soul master, Ye Lüsù was naturally suited to training the team's synergy, while Lin Beiya simply served as the ultimate trump card.

With more free time, Lin Beiya focused entirely on perfecting ripping open space with telekinesis to teleport objects.

He had destroyed countless teacups already, and more than one unlucky classmate had been randomly hit on the head by a teacup appearing out of nowhere.

But the high-intensity training finally bore fruit.

Lin Beiya could now tear open a small pocket-sized space with telekinesis and accurately teleport teacups to a designated location.

Next, he would learn to control spatial distortion within a range his body could withstand—ensuring he wouldn't injure himself when teleporting.

This was an exceptionally difficult process. Every day, his muscles and bones ached from the strain, but there was no avoiding it.

Outside of cultivation, Lin Beiya frequently approached Chrysanthemum Douluo to strengthen their relationship. Knowing the titled Douluo's obsession with flowers, he often bought rare seeds in Spirit City to bring as gifts.

Over time, the two developed a decent connection—thanks partly to Lin Beiya's talent and partly to his status as the Pope's disciple.

Otherwise, why would a Titled Douluo spend time chatting with a ten-year-old kid?

"Little Beiya, it's rare to see someone your age interested in studying beautiful flowers."

"I wouldn't say I study them. It's just that when I trained my sense of smell and sight, I inevitably came into contact with all kinds of flowers. I slowly picked up some knowledge—and eventually found myself enjoying it."

Lin Beiya wasn't lying. During past training, he often suppressed all other senses to distinguish flowers by scent alone, and from afar, he practiced counting petals with nothing but his eyesight.

Eventually, he learned to recognize the most common flowers. But of course, that wasn't his true purpose for visiting Chrysanthemum Douluo.

"By the way, Uncle Ju, since your martial soul is a flower, does a plant like the Singular Velvet Sky Chrysanthemum actually exist on this continent?"

"Hahaha! Little Beiya, you came to the right person. Anyone else would tell you that such a plant absolutely doesn't exist."

"But only I know—it definitely does."

Lin Beiya's heart skipped with excitement, though his expression remained one of innocent curiosity.

"Immortal herb? What's that supposed to be?"

"'Immortal herb' refers to those miraculous plants that defy the natural order. My Singular Velvet Sky Chrysanthemum is one such plant."

"The Singular Velvet Sky Chrysanthemum is a neutral-type immortal herb. Consuming it strengthens the limbs, opens the meridians, and tempers the body into something close to the vajra indestructible body."

As Chrysanthemum Douluo spoke, his eyes glowed with pride. This was clearly his beloved field of expertise. He even felt a faint 'why didn't we meet earlier' affinity toward Lin Beiya.

Lin Beiya widened his eyes in perfectly timed astonishment.

"A vajra indestructible body? That's incredible?"

"Of course! Otherwise, how could it be called an immortal herb?"

"Little Beiya, if you ever come across an immortal herb in your journeys, you must bring it back for me to examine. I've never actually seen one in person myself."

Lin Beiya nodded enthusiastically, then deliberately made a regretful face.

"Uncle Ju, even if I'm lucky enough to encounter one someday, I wouldn't recognize it…"

"Hahaha, that's easy. I once acquired an ancient manual that records the appearance and effects of most known immortal herbs. If you're interested, take it and read it."

Chrysanthemum Douluo had kept the book simply because of his love for rare plants. In truth, the manual wasn't very precious to him—he had long since memorized every page.

Seeing how smoothly things were going, Lin Beiya joyfully accepted the ancient manual.

Opening the first page, he saw a detailed illustration of the Yearning Heartbroken Red, depicted in its unpicked form.

Below it were descriptions of its origins and effects.

The book was thick—meaning that almost every herb in the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well was likely recorded somewhere within its pages.

"Thank you, Uncle Ju. I'll study it carefully. If I ever encounter any immortal herbs, I'll definitely bring them back to share with you."

"No need to be so polite. Take it. It's not anything precious."

Whether Lin Beiya could actually find immortal herbs was something Chrysanthemum Douluo didn't expect at all. Having spent his entire life obsessed with flora, he had searched all over the continent.

If they were that easy to encounter, he would have found them already.
