Chapter 38 - Curse

"The Captain's singing is too awful! Did he hurt his vocal cords just now?"

After becoming an Ocean Singer, Luo Yan often sang on the ship. His songs were generally pleasant, and their effects were mostly positive. Some songs had a soothing rhythm, allowing people to forget their fatigue, while others were inspiring and rousing, making one's blood boil just by listening. But he had never sung anything so terrible, so maddening to hear.

The Sea Kings could no longer bear it. Its body leaned forward, stepping onto the land. Its snake-like body twisted, fully coming ashore, measuring over one hundred and fifty meters long and more than ten meters in diameter—an absolute behemoth.

Although the Ocean Singer already possessed the ability of Thunder Strike, the intensity of the Thunder Strike was not high. It was fine for attacking people, but useless against a behemoth over a hundred meters long. The singing was the true core ability.

Luo Yan did not start singing immediately, fearing it would provoke the Sea Kings and cause the ship to be overturned. But now that he was on the island and the ship was far away, there was naturally no need to worry about the Sea Kings going berserk.

"Caw!"

The Sea Kings shrieked loudly, its huge beak pecking directly at Luo Yan. Luo Yan shifted his body sideways to dodge, but his body was enveloped by a massive shadow. Unbeknownst to him, the Sea Kings's enormous tail had already moved directly above Luo Yan.

Hmph! It seems you still have some sanity!

Luo Yan's singing did not stop, and he snorted coldly in his heart, once again using the wind to push his body away from the attack.

Boom!

The tail slammed heavily onto the ground, causing the entire island to tremble. At this moment, the Sea Kings's massive head had not yet lifted. Luo Yan floated behind its head, his left hand's five fingers spread open.

"Mental Pierce!"

"Caw!"

Although no attack was seen, the Sea Kings's reaction was enormous. It suddenly raised its head, twisting its body in an awkward posture to open its mouth and try to swallow Luo Yan.

Luo Yan seized the opportunity. The muscles in his right hand, holding the trident, visibly swelled. Silvery-white lightning poured into the trident, which immediately glowed with white light, with electric snakes occasionally flashing across its surface.

"Go!"

Luo Yan directly threw the lightning-carrying trident into the Sea Kings's mouth. The Sea Kings abruptly closed its mouth, and a strong white light overflowed from the gaps in its mouth. The tip of its beak just happened to bite Luo Yan, and the immense force instantly crushed Luo Yan into pieces—true pulverization, like glass being struck by a heavy blow.

No blood spilled; only countless fragments fell, but these fragments had not even touched the ground before they transformed into specks of light and dissipated into nothingness.

Luo Yan's figure emerged from the void. In his hand, he now held an ancient-looking mirror and a single mane hair from the Sea Kings. Just one mane hair was as thick as a chopstick.

Luo Yan placed the mane hair on the mirror's surface. The mirror's surface, like water, directly absorbed the mane hair. The mane hair decomposed and melted within the mirror, then disappeared. The mirror also reflected the Sea Kings's complete figure.

"Die!"

Luo Yan shouted loudly and threw the mirror high. The next moment, an arm-thick bolt of lightning struck down, heavily hitting the mirror.

At the same time, countless electric snakes spread across the Sea Kings's body. These electric snakes seemed to come directly from the Sea Kings itself, so numerous that they almost covered its entire body.

This was a curse, a curse from a witch, which could cause the cursed target to suffer the same damage as the mirror. This was unrelated to size; as long as the target's bodily fluids, flesh, or hair were thrown into the mirror, allowing the mirror to reflect the target's entire body, it would take effect.

The Sea Kings opened its huge mouth, seemingly wanting to let out a cry of pain, but the trident Luo Yan had thrown earlier seemed to have damaged the Sea Kings's vocal cords. It failed to make a sound and instead spat out a mouthful of black smoke.

The Sea Kings's body continuously thrashed in pain. Luo Yan ignored the falling mirror and swooped towards the thrashing Sea Kings.

The Sea Kings also seemed to sense the danger from above, enduring the pain to whip its tail at Luo Yan.

Luo Yan unhesitatingly chose to abandon his dive and dodge the attack.

The Sea Kings seized the opportunity, twisting its body to turn and try to escape back into the sea. It now realized that it was impossible to eat the human before him, who held such a great attraction. Staying on land was a dead end; only by returning to the sea could it survive.

Luo Yan had put in so much effort to get this Sea Kings onto land; naturally, he wouldn't let it return to the sea.

He suddenly landed in front of the Sea Kings, took out a rusty, blood-stained broken knife from his inner jacket pocket, and plunged it into the ground.

"Great Flame World · Flame Emperor!"

Starting from the broken knife, flames first formed a giant ring of fire, completely encircling the massive Sea Kings. Immediately after, the fire ring rose to form a high wall. Finally, a giant fireball emerged from the ground, slowly ascending. During this process, the Sea Kings was completely engulfed by the fireball.

Bang!

When the fireball's height completely surpassed the fire wall, the fireball exploded like fireworks, scattering sparks that ignited the already sparse vegetation on the island. The fire wall also seemed to lose its support, quickly extinguishing and revealing the Sea Kings trapped inside.

At this moment, the Sea Kings was completely charred black, and the aroma of roasted meat mixed with a burnt smell permeated the air.

Luo Yan's condition was not much better. His right palm, holding the broken knife, was scorched, and his entire arm was covered with burn marks. Someone unaware might have thought he was standing inside the fire ring, not outside it.

Crack ~ Snap!

The already rusty broken knife seemed unable to bear it any longer, suddenly shattering into countless specks of light. Luo Yan was somewhat lost in thought, not even tending to his injuries immediately, but staring blankly at the re-gathering specks of light.

It broke? Why?

Luo Yan didn't understand, because according to his occult knowledge, to pulverize Beyonder characteristics, one should need angel-level power, which is Sequence 2 power. Yet, he had only used Ace's blood, which is the power of the Flame-Flame Fruit, to forcibly unleash the demi-god level attack just now, and this knife, condensed from Beyonder characteristics, actually shattered, and the Beyonder characteristics within it also broke into the most basic specks of light.

The specks of light finally condensed into a burning heart, which had flame patterns like the surface of the Flame-Flame Fruit.

"Never mind all that. In short, I won."

Although he paid a huge price, Luo Yan was still very happy because he won. And the Beyonder characteristics extracted from this Sea Kings might very well be another main ingredient for the Calamity High Priest. This way, as long as he could convince Whitebeard, he would have his Sequence 4 potion.

"Heh, heh heh…"

Luo Yan slumped onto the ground, took out the potion Xia Tali had left earlier from an inner pocket of his clothes, and tilted his head back to gulp down a bottle. The scorch marks on his right hand immediately peeled off for the most part, revealing the newly grown flesh underneath.
