Chapter 2 - Chapter 2 Accepting Reality

"Hey, catch!"

Even though a week had passed since he transmigrated, Chris was still a bit shocked when the white Labrador stood up and threw a baseball at him.

However, his body instinctively reached out and caught the baseball, then struck a perfect throwing pose.

Just as Chris was about to throw the ball to Brian, Lois poked her head out and shouted, "Chris, stop playing, come and try my strawberry pie!"

Lois's sharp voice reached him, and Chris automatically stopped, while Brian shrugged and said, "Alright, looks like it's for next time."

Chris was inwardly surprised at how a dog could perform such human-like actions, yet he showed a regretful expression and said, "Three more points and I would have won, Lois's strawberry pie saved your wallet."

"Oh, ha! Doesn't that just prove Lois is my lucky goddess!"

Brian heard Chris's complaint, but instead of admitting defeat, he shamelessly played it off.

However, Chris couldn't be bothered to argue; after all, this dog, while not as beastly as in the cartoons, wasn't exactly a good dog either.

Putting away the baseball and glove, Chris headed to the bathroom to wash his hands, following his habit from his previous life, then walked to his seat.

A steaming hot strawberry pie sat quietly on the table.

The sweet smell made Chris's throat move, instantly triggering his body's instincts, and a strange voice in his mind told him to quickly swallow this food.

But the consciousness of the transmigrator was somewhat repulsed; after all, this thing was simply too sweet for him.

For someone who got a toothache from drinking a bottle of soda in his previous life, this caloric bomb, which looked and smelled overwhelmingly sweet, was truly difficult to eat.

But the other members of the family clearly didn't feel the same; Brian and Meg had already cleared their plates.

Although he wondered if Brian could eat something so sweet, seeing him eyeing his own strawberry pie eagerly, Chris knew he couldn't look at things in this world with the perspective of his previous life anymore.

Taking a deep breath, Chris suppressed the discomfort in his heart, then picked up his knife and fork, ready to eat.

The food wasn't as hard to accept as Chris had imagined, but the sense of satisfaction from his genes told Chris that this thing indeed had an incredibly high calorie count.

No wonder there were two severely obese people, Peter and Chris, in this family.

Of course, the others weren't exactly thin either.

Stewie, watching Chris's strange behavior from the side, had an interesting thought flash in his eyes, and his playful gaze aroused Brian's curiosity.

But seeing that Stewie made no other moves, and Chris finished his strawberry pie, Brian regretfully looked at the empty table, then went to the living room to watch TV.

Lois saw her children finish eating and began to clear the table, and she also inquired about Chris's injury.

"Chris, how have you been feeling these past two days? Is anything bothering you?"

The sudden concern startled Chris; he had originally given up hope for this beastly family, but from Lois, he still felt a taste of kinship.

This was no different from his family in his previous life.

It was also from Lois that Chris discovered this world wasn't truly as depicted in the cartoons, devoid of any ethics or morals, a completely beastly family.

Of course, this feeling was currently limited to Lois.

At least, during his week of recuperation at home, Peter had never once shown concern for him.

He hadn't even offered a single greeting; at most, he wasn't drinking at home, always leaving early and returning late.

However, considering Peter's beastly behavior in the cartoons, his ability to refrain from drinking and acting crazy at home might already be a rare display of warmth.

Chris, thinking about this and that, also got up to help Lois clean up, and his mouth wasn't idle as he replied, "Oh! No, my body is great, I feel like I can return to school tomorrow."

Seeing Chris actively help her clear the table, Lois was surprised; she hadn't expected the usually lazy and gluttonous Chris to have such a filial side.

This made Lois a bit unaccustomed for a moment, and she quickly took the dishes Chris handed her, then continued Chris's words, "It's good that you're fine, but I asked for two weeks off for you. Are you sure you don't want to take this opportunity to have a good time?"

A pure white person like Lois wouldn't engage in the subtle communication common among Chinese people; if Chris said he was fine, she truly believed he was fine.

Instead, she talked about Chris being able to rest for another week.

However, for Chris, he had already been fine on the day he was discharged from the hospital; this week of recuperation was just for him to get used to the environment and absorb memories, so he hadn't said much.

Now that he had familiarized himself and fully absorbed the original body's memories, there was naturally no need to waste any more time.

Returning to class early, familiarizing himself with the American education system, and planning for the future was the real priority.

After all, with the connections from Lois's father and the help of Stewie, this genius child, he might even have a chance to become the big boss in the White House in the future.

So, he should be even more diligent.

However, he couldn't tell Lois these plans directly, so Chris could only perfunctorily say, "Forget it, Mom. If I play for another week, I won't be able to count on getting out of class on time anymore. I don't want to be kept after school!"

Such a correct answer surprised Lois, and then she burst into laughter, "Oh, hahaha, it seems my little meatball has grown up!"

As she spoke, Lois reached out and rubbed Chris's chin; just a slight rub made the fat on Chris's entire face jiggle, which amused Lois again.

"Alright, you two go play! Mom needs to do the dishes."

Watching Lois walk into the kitchen, Chris dropped his facade, then turned to look at Stewie.

The demonic infant wore a mysterious smile, staring at Chris with an expression that seemed to see through everything.

"Want to talk?"

Chris proactively invited Stewie, who, without any pretense, clearly indicated that he saw through everything.

And Stewie, adopting such a posture, clearly wanted to talk to his changed older brother as well.

So Stewie smiled and said, "Of course! Should we go somewhere more private?"

Following Stewie's gaze, Chris looked at the living room; Meg was watching TV intently, but Brian's perked ears indicated that the dog was very interested in their conversation.

Although he had no intention of keeping his identity a secret, Chris understood the principle that too many people meant trouble.

Before knowing Stewie's specific intentions, Chris decided it was better to keep some things confidential.

"To your secret base or somewhere else?"

Hearing Chris's words, Stewie raised an eyebrow, then said, "It seems you know quite a lot!"

Chris gave a mysterious smile in response, not intending to say more.

Stewie didn't press further, but simply got down from his seat and, with his short legs, said, "Follow me!"

Watching Stewie and Chris go upstairs, Brian's tail wagged so fast it created afterimages, but after a moment's thought, he ultimately didn't follow.

As a writer, Brian understood the wisdom of self-preservation.

These two clearly had some secret dealings, and it was better for a simple little dog like him not to know.
