Chapter 8 - His Hero.

Hero, the beacon of light

She is I and I am her,

And I am privileged with purpose,

Divine and true,

For I serve her divinity,

The goddess Aphrodite…

I am a true believer,

And as I preach,

I too love true,

For I love Leander.

Oh, what brave and brash he is,

So swift, yet stupid.

He swims across the sea

Each day, each morn,

Just to see me.

Oh, I love how he follows my beacon of light,

Fueled by my heart's desire,

My truest, deepest wish.

It is to me a ritual as breathing is,

To sit by the Hellespont,

Waiting for him to come.

Oh, in what wondrous ways shall we spend this day…

Oh, there I see him,

On the shore,

Asleep, quiet and sound.

And then I see him truly.

And no! No! No!

Why, oh why, dear and divine Poseidon,

Have you befallen on me

This great misery?

Oh, why, by what right,

Father of my goddess, God-King Zeus,

Did you forsake my beloved?

Oh, why, Persephone's husband,

Oldest of the gods, Lord Hades,

Have you called my beloved

To the realm of the dead?

I cannot live like this.

I cannot feel anything

Except this emptiness,

This pit I did not know my heart had.

This sorrow I cannot control.

The tears do not stop.

The shouting has come to a halt,

For my throat can do it no longer.

Yet I am surprised to know I shouted at all.

I am alone now.

I shall find my peace in the realm of the living no more.

All my calm and love awaits me in the underworld.

So I climb the tower,

Up and high,

And I fall

To the down below.

I fell nor feared, neither sad,

For I shall reunite once again

With my beloved dead.
