Chapter 6 - Bad things

"Thoughts "

The rest of the way to school was a blur. Dragged by the wrist, (Y/N) felt like a puppet, with Chloe holding the strings. She didn't let go until they were right at the classroom entrance. Her touch was brief, but it left his skin cold where her fingers had been.

— Chloe: See you at lunch, (Y/N). And if you need anything, text me.

Her tone was that of an owner giving instructions to her pet. She walked into her classroom, and the silence she left was louder than her presence.

(Y/N) slumped into his usual seat at the back. The morning classes were the only truce he had, a brief respite where the walls were the only thing separating him from Chloe. He would use this time.

— (Y/N): The plan has changed. I can't escape, but I can investigate. She knows me, but I know nothing about her. That has to change.

He opened his backpack and pulled out his cell phone. He quickly opened the school's anonymous gossip forum, something he had never used in his "life." He typed in a search: Chloe, accident, rumors.

The results were an avalanche of posts about her popularity, talent, and beauty. No accidents. No tragedies.

A comment from three months ago caught his attention: "Chloe is great, but she's a bit intense. Ask [Alex] how his birthday went after telling her he couldn't date her."

— (Y/N): Intense.

It wasn't enough. He deleted his browsing history and put away his phone just as the door opened. It was the professor.

The crucial moment arrived during lunch. As he had anticipated, Chloe was waiting for him right outside his classroom, leaning against the wall as if time didn't exist.

— Chloe: Ready for lunch? I have a delicious sandwich, if you want one.

— (Y/N): Chloe. I need to go to... the bathroom.

Chloe tilted her head, her smile narrowing slightly.

— Chloe: Okay, (Y/N). But don't take long. I'll be at my table waiting for you.

She left first. It was his chance. (Y/N) headed for the last stall. His stomach churned as he recalled his pathetic escape attempt. A group of guys he had never seen before were talking a few feet away.

— First Guy: ...I swear to you, it's crazy. They say the subway stopped yesterday for almost an hour. A complete disaster.

— Second Guy: Really? Was there an accident?

— First Guy: No one knows. Just that the [Station Name] station was closed because of something.

(Y/N)'s heart skipped a beat. A clue! The subway station they mentioned was the same one where he had fallen onto the tracks. The accident was real.

But if the event had happened, why was Chloe denying it?

After a few minutes, he came out of the stall and felt a hand grab his shoulder. He jumped and spun around. It wasn't Chloe. It was Mark, a classmate who sat in front of him, a quiet guy who seemed to be just as invisible as he was.

— Mark: Hey, everything okay? You look really pale.

— (Y/N): No, I just... heard there was a rumor about the subway station.

Mark nodded, his face expressionless.

— Mark: Yeah, it's true. Yesterday, for a moment, the subway stopped. They say someone fell onto the tracks.

(Y/N) felt an icy chill. It was him. He was the reason for the "disaster."

— (Y/N): And... do they know if the person survived?

Mark shrugged, looking toward the cafeteria.

— Mark: They say it was serious. But I don't know, it's just rumors.

Suddenly, Mark's eyes fixed on something behind (Y/N). His expression froze.

— Mark: I better go.

(Y/N) slowly turned around. Chloe was there, only a few feet away, standing in the hallway. She wasn't smiling anymore. Her blonde hair and impeccable uniform contrasted with the coldness of her gaze. She had seen (Y/N) talking to Mark.

— Chloe: (Y/N). I was waiting for you.

Her voice was low and controlled, but the warning was clear.

— (Y/N): Damn it! She found me. I can't involve anyone else. This is between her and me.

Chloe took a step forward, and Mark, without a word, quickly slipped into the opposite hallway, leaving (Y/N) alone.

— Chloe: Why didn't you come to my table? I told you I'd wait for you. And why are you talking to other people? I thought you didn't talk to anyone but me.

— (Y/N): I just... needed to ask about something for class.

— Chloe: That's a lie. You were asking about the subway. I told you this morning, (Y/N). Don't talk about bad dreams.

She moved closer to him, and the distance closed, suffocating him. Her eyes were fixed on his.

— Chloe: You have to listen to me. I'm the only one who knows what's best for you. It's a wonderful day and I don't want you to ruin it again, okay? Be a good boy.

She caressed his cheek with the back of her hand. The touch, though gentle, felt like a threat. (Y/N) stood paralyzed, understanding the lesson: if he tried to investigate or involve others, she would know.

Autor:I have no idea what I'm writing; I'm just having fun.
