Chapter 19 - A Curse With No Deaths?

"Why are you still alive? Didn't she fall from the rooftop? I pushed her myself?"

Behind Eiji and Suguru Geto, Shota Urushi, dressed like a model student, was curled up in a corner, hugging his knees tightly.

"Why isn't she dead? That means we're going to be killed by the Crimson Figure tonight too. Damn it."

Among the four people in the room, some wore expressions of despair, some had given up on themselves, and others were holding each other, their faces full of sorrow.

Eiji and Suguru Geto exchanged a look, their eyes filled with gravity.

"Tell us about your situation. Maybe we can find a solution."

Suguru Geto stepped forward and said softly.

"Haha, you have a solution? Do you even know what that is? It's an evil spirit! I know you guys, the strongest delinquents from the junior high division. Are you planning to fight an evil spirit with your fists?"

"Shota, stop talking."

Takahiro Ise, the calmest and strongest among them, restrained Shota Urushi, who had completely broken down.

"You guys can come in and sit down too. We might become teammates from now on."

After speaking, Takahiro Ise made a welcoming gesture. Asuka behind him immediately picked up a fallen chair and arranged it around a bed.

Eiji and Suguru Geto didn't refuse and walked over to sit down.

"My name is Takahiro Ise, a second-year in high school. These are Shota Urushi, Asuka Morishita, and Rie. What about you?"

Takahiro Ise, the leader of the small group, introduced the other three to Eiji and Suguru Geto.

"Dongfang Eiji, second-year in junior high."

"Suguru Geto, second-year in junior high."

Takahiro Ise nodded politely and continued his story.

"It all started three days ago. We were on lunch break when the girl you just saw walked up behind me and asked me to help her find her body."

"At first, I thought I misheard. Just as I was about to ask for clarification, the girl suddenly disappeared, much like just now."

Eiji and Suguru Geto understood. Just as Eiji was hesitating whether to chase her, the girl's body had dissipated into the air like mist.

"That evening, the four of us suddenly appeared in the school, and a blood-soaked Crimson Figure began chasing us."

As he spoke, Takahiro Ise raised his hand to cover one of his eyes.

It must have been a pretty terrible memory, Eiji thought to himself.

"I thought I was killed, but when I woke up the next day, I was at home, completely unharmed."

"Are they too?"

Eiji's gaze swept over the others.

"Yes, when we exchanged information yesterday, we found out that the girl had asked all of us to find her body."

"Also, we exchanged information. Rie found a coffin in the auditorium. Inside, there was a humanoid empty space meant to hold body parts. Asuka found an arm in a classroom. I think the body we need to find might be those parts."

After finishing, Takahiro Ise looked up at Eiji and Suguru Geto.

"Now you've also been asked, so you might also get caught up in this search for a body... curse tonight."

He paused, feeling that "curse" was a more fitting description for their situation than "game."

"Of course, it's also possible that the scope of this curse is limited to the high school division, and you from the junior high division might be fine."

As if trying to comfort Eiji and Suguru Geto, Takahiro Ise said this.

Takahiro Ise had initially been unhappy with the two who had rushed over to attack, but after understanding that they had misunderstood and thought they were bullying the girl, this dissatisfaction vanished.

"What do you think?"

Eiji looked at Suguru Geto.

"It's a type I haven't seen before. What about you?"

"It's my first time seeing it too. Normally, Cursed Spirits have simpler behavior patterns. It's rare for a Cursed Spirit to have such a complex modus operandi. And most importantly, this Cursed Spirit didn't kill them."

Most Cursed Spirits have low intelligence and act with beast-like behavior patterns, driven by instinct to find and kill humans.

But according to Takahiro Ise, they had been killed multiple times yet all woke up in the morning alive.

Could the experience of being killed have been a dream?

"Why do you call that Cursed Spirit the Crimson Figure?"

"Oh, that's because the broadcast said so."

"The broadcast?"

Eiji looked up at Takahiro Ise.

"Yes, the school's broadcast system intermittently announces the location of the Crimson Figure."

This made it even stranger. Constantly broadcasting the Cursed Spirit's location would make it easier for people to avoid it.

"Um, I've been hearing you talk about Cursed Spirits. What exactly are Cursed Spirits?"

Asuka, who was beside them, seized on the key point.

"Cursed Spirits are monsters born from the collective negative emotions of humanity. They curse and kill people."

Suguru Geto explained it simply and understandably to Asuka.

"Then what are you guys? Onmyoji?"

Hearing this, Asuka became a little excited. Urushi Shota, who had been on the verge of collapse, also looked up at the two with hopeful eyes.

"We are Jujutsu Sorcerers. We can use Cursed Energy to exorcise Cursed Spirits. We're a bit different from Onmyoji."

Jujutsu Sorcerers, Cursed Spirits.

A new concept appeared in the minds of the group.

"Please, can you lift the curse on us?"

Ise Takahiro asked nervously.

"Yes, no problem. According to what you said, we'll be pulled into the curse tonight as well. We'll be responsible for exorcising the Cursed Spirits then."

Eiji nodded affirmatively.

"Really? Thank you so much."

Upon hearing this, Ise Takahiro immediately stood up and bowed a standard 90-degree bow.

Eiji and Suguru Geto were unfazed.

They often encountered similar situations when exorcising Cursed Spirits.

"You don't need to thank us. This is what we should do."

Suguru Geto smiled and helped Ise Takahiro up.

"Tell us all the information you know. That way, we can protect you better tonight."

"Yes, I understand."

Seeing hope for lifting the curse, the group immediately started talking, sharing everything they knew.

Eiji took out his notebook, which he used to record ideas for his novels, and recorded and summarized all the information described by the group. Finally, he deduced the appearance of the Cursed Spirit.

The Cursed Spirit was small in stature, appearing to be a girl of junior high school age. She wore a blood-stained dress and held a dirty doll in her hand.

She had great strength, capable of tearing people in half with ease. Her movement speed was not fast, about the same as a normal high school student running. If one used corners, they could effectively create distance.

She was suspected of possessing an instant movement ability that required certain conditions to be met.

According to Asuka, one time when she turned around, the Crimson Figure, who had been far away, suddenly appeared in front of her.

Furthermore, those caught by the Crimson Figure were usually not killed immediately. The Crimson Figure would hold them tightly and sing a song before killing them.

Eiji curiously asked what song the Crimson Figure sang, thinking that the song might contain information about the Cursed Spirit's identity or Cursed Technique.

Ise Takahiro and the others began to think. Finally, they collectively completed the lyrics of the song.

Please give me a red dress

Dye all the white clothes red

Dye them until they are blood red

Dye my hands and face red
