Sally's POV
The pack hall gradually empties as wolves filter out into the night, their conversations muted whispers that fade with each departing group. Some return to their homes and loved ones, while others cluster together, speaking in hushed tones. The suffocating weight that had pressed down on everyone earlier has lifted, leaving behind an uncertain peace.
Relief should flood through me now. Safety should wrap around me like a warm blanket, knowing the pack heard Karl's steady voice and found comfort in his words. But as I watch him across the room, commanding and sure as he delivers final orders to the enforcers stationed by the exits, my heart refuses to slow its frantic rhythm.
He takes my breath away when he's like this. Authoritative, unshakeable, every fiber of his being radiating the natural leadership he was destined for.
