Sally's POV
The sound of children's giggles grows distant as we venture down one of the winding dirt trails that snake around the village's edge. My feet want to root themselves to the ground, every maternal instinct demanding I turn back and keep Warren within my sight.
Sean's fingers find mine briefly, his touch sending waves of calm through my frayed nerves. "He's safe," he murmurs, reading my tension like an open book. "Philip and Karl would die before letting harm come to him."
My head bobs in agreement, though the tightness in my chest refuses to ease. "I know they'll protect him. It's just seeing him so carefree, like he truly belongs here. I'm terrified someone might crush that joy with careless words."
"Both of you belong here," Sean states with unwavering certainty.
Ajax falls into step beside me, his presence solid and reassuring. "And if any fool thinks otherwise, they'll find themselves eating their own teeth."
