Sandy's POV
The gentle rocking motion slowly dragged me back to consciousness.
My face pressed against smooth leather, but lifting my head felt impossible. Every muscle in my body screamed with exhaustion, as if all my fight had been drained away.
The memories came flooding back in pieces.
The auction stage. The iron cage. The dark-eyed stranger who bid on me like I was nothing more than property.
Property. The word sent a spike of rage through my chest, though the heavy weight of the black device around my wrist quickly smothered it.
Taylor was gone. My wolf had been silenced, leaving me feeling like half a person. Empty. Broken.
"Finally awake." The voice above me was smooth as silk, tinged with dark amusement.
My blood turned to ice.
I forced my eyes open despite the harsh light, then immediately wished I hadn't. The leather beneath my cheek wasn't a seat. It was his lap.
