Sallie's POV
Growing up with Kevin meant I knew exactly how much the company meant to him. That's why I decided to take the problem straight to his door.
What caught me off guard was how he didn't even glance at the paperwork. His response was ice-cold. "Figure it out yourself. Don't drag me into your mess.
"If everyone keeps dumping their problems on my desk, I'll spend every damn day playing cleanup crew."
His words hit me like a slap of clarity. Kevin cared about profits, sure, but my project? He'd never seen it as anything worth his time.
That explained everything—why he'd never backed me from day one. Hell, Kane's constant roadblocks were probably his doing too. The realization was so absurd I couldn't help but laugh.
Kevin's frown deepened, clearly pissed at my reaction.
"What's so amusing?"
I stared at him without a word, then spun around and walked out.
