Everly watched Elisabeth fuss over someone else, completely ignoring her own health. Frustrated and helpless, she snapped, "Mom, why are you so eager to help Sallie? She's not even worth it!"
Elisabeth, still visibly agitated, gradually started to calm down. She knew Everly had always disapproved of her going out of her way for Sallie. As mother and daughter, they had more than one heated argument about it.
But no matter how intense their arguments got, Everly never stopped her. For the first time, Elisabeth opened up to her daughter and said, "I'm not doing this because it's worthwhile, nor is it for Sallie. I'm doing it for myself."
