My scathing rebuke left the Noah family completely stunned. What really burned them wasn't just that I'd torn into them.
It was that I'd done it right in front of all these guests.
Kevin, the polished heir of the Noah family, was the first to recover. "And what gives you the right to claim you set up the fireworks and drone show?" he fired back.
His eyes, behind those gold-rimmed glasses, locked onto me. "You're just Sallie's gigolo, living off her for everything you eat and wear. Do you even have a clue how much it costs to pull off a surprise like this?"
Getting labeled as some kept man in front of a crowd at such a big event, any guy would lose it, deny it immediately, and do whatever he could to prove otherwise. That was exactly what Kevin was banking on.
All he had to do was redirect the heat away from Webster, and he could minimize the whole situation, keeping the Noah family clear of the mess.
