"Hey, watch it."
Lana grunted as she stumbled, the mean officer's shove sending her hard onto the steel bench.
In hindsight, she actually missed the two cops who had arrested her. They'd treated her like a princess throughout the drive, even stopping to buy her a snack. They were terrified, of course, but at least they were polite. This guy, however, seemed to have a personal vendetta against anyone with a pulse.
She shifted on the cold metal, leaning her head back against the tiled wall. Across the room, the bald officer retreated to a scarred wooden desk, his gaze fixed on her with a heavy, unblinking suspicion.
Lana raised her cuffed hands, the chain rattling in the silence. She caught his eye and smirked, her voice light with forced bravado.
"Oh, look. The handcuffs—I think they're coming off."
