Chapter 69 - Chapter 69: A Commission Worth 10 Million Credits

After listening to Sam's description of the group of 'lunatics,' Lux nodded thoughtfully.

"I think I know what you're talking about."

As she spoke, she took out her terminal, and after a search, she projected the results onto the nearby wall.

Four characters appeared on the wall: "Forest Fury."

"What you're talking about should be this organization. They are considered a cult. If anyone encounters this organization in the forest, they will try to kill that person and use them as fertilizer for the forest, regardless of whether that person has caused any damage to the forest."

"Moreover, they are very sensitive to elements like fire. As soon as any fire-related elements appear in the forest, they will act like a group of sharks smelling blood, attacking madly towards that location."

After reading the detailed description projected on the wall for a while, Firefly nodded thoughtfully, then she turned her head to Lux and continued to ask:

"According to the intelligence, every team leader of Forest Fury has the ability to control a portion of the forest, and the higher their position, the greater their control."

"Then where does this organization get so many wood-element ability users? Are they just a simple cult, or... is the forest actually controlling them?"

"I've also speculated about that," Lux wasn't surprised that Sam would come to this conclusion. "There are simply too many wood-element ability users in Forest Fury. At first, I suspected that the leader of this organization had an ability to bestow wood-element abilities, but it turned out I was wrong."

"After an in-depth investigation, I ventured into the Forbidden Forest Area. Relying on the unique properties of my own ability, I successfully broke in. However, what I saw in the Forbidden Forest Area was a scene I will never forget in my life."

At this point, Lux picked up a bottle of water from the table and took a sip, as if just recalling it brought her great pressure.

"In the Forbidden Forest Area, at the center surrounded by many towering trees, there was a strangely shaped giant tree growing underground. I could see this giant tree slowly contracting like a heart, and with each contraction, a dull tremor would occur on the ground. Countless Forest Fury cultists were kneeling on the ground around this giant tree, with their hands clasped together, their faces full of piety..."

"Thus, I came to a terrifying conclusion: the forest is actually alive..."

After speaking, Lux took a deep breath, then drank from her water glass again.

"The forest is alive?"

After hearing Lux's words, Firefly, inside Sam, frowned, and some unpleasant thoughts suddenly appeared in her mind.

'Living forest? I think I've only seen this kind of setting in the horror section? No, no, it shouldn't be that kind of flesh-and-blood forest or anything. I should stop overthinking.'

"I know this result might be unbelievable, but this is exactly what I witnessed with my own eyes."

As she spoke, Lux switched the terminal's screen, and a commission appeared on the wall.

[Investigate the Forbidden Forest Area

Commission Difficulty: S]

"This commission was issued by me. Although I successfully infiltrated the Forbidden Forest Area at that time and saw that scene, before I could record it, I was inexplicably discovered. Then, several A-Class and countless B-Class combatants, along with overwhelming vines, attacked me."

At this point, Lux picked up a bottle of water from the table, took a sip, and then sighed.

"Although I somewhat don't remember how I escaped then, since then, I have never been able to successfully infiltrate the Forbidden Forest Area again, because every time I encounter Forest Fury cultists. I suspect that my aura or something was remembered from the last time, so I issued a commission, hoping that anyone could enter the Forbidden Forest Area and bring out the secrets within to make them public, because only then will the government begin to take this Forbidden Forest Area seriously."

"Understood."

After listening to Lux's description, Firefly first expressed her understanding, then continued to ask:

"You've told me so much, but what you actually mean is that you want me to accept this commission, right?"

"Exactly," Lux admitted straightforwardly. "Several A-Class had accepted my commission before. I also explained in great detail what I encountered to them, reminding them to take photos and run, not to engage in direct combat, but unfortunately, none of them survived."

"Because this commission was not completed by several A-Class Experts who accepted it, and they even went missing because of it, this commission gradually rose from an initial A-Class difficulty until three days ago, when its difficulty directly increased to S-Class."

"And currently, the only S-Class in the entire city is probably just you."

"I accept."

Firefly accepted the commission without hesitation. For her, it was simply a multiple-choice question. After possessing such powerful strength, shouldn't she go exploring these unknown places to satisfy her desire to explore the unknown?

Uncovering the unknown and admiring wonders was also a qualified way to pass the time before encountering an evenly matched opponent.

Upon hearing these three words, a clear look of joy appeared on Lux's face. She then turned and opened a drawer, taking out what looked like a very old camera from inside. Immediately after, she handed the camera to Sam.

"Take this with you."

"This is?"

Looking at the retro camera in front of her, Firefly was a little puzzled.

"This is a special camera that can effectively block magnetic field interference from the Forbidden Forest Area, allowing it to take photos... Wait a minute."

Mid-sentence, Lux suddenly looked up at Sam's silver-white armor as if she had thought of something.

"The Forbidden Forest Area has strong magnetic field interference... Will your armor... lose its effectiveness due to the magnetic field?"

"No," Firefly shook her head. "The magnetic field cannot interfere with my armor, so you don't need to worry about that. If you don't believe me, we can test it now."

"No need for that. Although I can't tell which organization or megacorporation made your armor, since you're so confident, you must have tested it before. So there's no need for me to take extra steps. Once you complete this commission, I will give you ten million credit points as compensation."

'Ten million... such a number. I think all the credit points I've acquired before only added up to a little over ten million?'

Upon hearing this number, although Sam still maintained a cold demeanor, seemingly untouched by anything, in reality, Firefly, inside Sam, had already contributed to global warming.
