Chapter 30 - Chapter 30: It’s time to settle accounts with a certain generous boss Shen

Hearing this series of sounds completely baffled Cipher. She quickly threw a hurried excuse of 'I suddenly remembered something' to Claire next to her, then swiftly returned to the house and entered her own bedroom.

"System, why did you suddenly update? Abnormal energy invasion, could it be that the lie I just told took effect?"

Looking at the lines of text in front of her, Cipher guessed.

She suspected it was caused by her earlier statement, "One can gain stronger abilities through credit points."

"By the way, when the system is updating, can other functions still be used?"

Thinking of this, Cipher silently chanted 'System Backpack' in her mind, and the familiar interface immediately appeared before her.

She then tried to store items and found that everything worked, and the injection she had just obtained could also be put in.

"The System Backpack works... what about card draws?"

Seeing no issues with the System Backpack, Cipher silently chanted 'card draw' again.

However, this time, the familiar card draw text did not appear; instead, it was replaced by a new message:

[System is updating, card draw function is closed]

It seems she couldn't draw cards.

"Forget it, I don't use the card draw function much anyway. I'll just wait and see how long this system update takes. There's nothing to do for now, so I'll go read a book... Oh, right, I haven't mentioned the terminal yet."

Thinking of this, Cipher once again went to Claire and told her about the terminal.

Claire readily agreed and said it could be delivered by the afternoon.

After finishing these tasks, Cipher ran to continue reading novels, as this was currently her only way to pass the time.

As for Spark Team, due to the rather unexpected events of this morning, they decided to rest for a day and continue taking commissions tomorrow... Evening.

Cipher put her terminal into her System Backpack, then stretched with a big yawn, murmuring comfortably:

"It's only comfortable when you have a phone, meow~"

Ever since Claire's purchase of the latest personal terminal, Cipher had been having a blast.

It looked like a phone, but its performance was stronger than many computers she had in her previous life.

She could even use the terminal's built-in screen mirroring to play PC games, which led her to spend several hundred credit points to buy several games.

As for how she got the keyboard, of course, it came with the terminal!

Cipher then played games all afternoon, and because of her own strength, she even broke some game records along the way.

"Time for some serious business."

Cipher stood up, then turned her gaze towards the Mercenary Association.

"You sold my information, huh? I'll let you know that not just anyone's information can be sold."

After saying this, she instantly vanished from the room.

A moment later, in front of the Mercenary Association's entrance, Cipher, glowing with purple light, walked into the association.

'This place still smells so bad, it's too pungent.'

Although she had been here three times already, Cipher still felt uncomfortable with the smell of alcohol in this place.

She quickly went to the door behind the counter, and after glancing left and right to make sure no one was paying attention, she quietly opened a crack in the door and slipped inside.

Closing the door and breathing in the clean air inside, Cipher closed her eyes with a hint of enjoyment.

'It's so comfortable in here. I wonder what brand of air purifier Shen uses; the air quality is even better than at Claire's house.'

After silently sighing in her heart, Cipher went up to the second floor.

However, there was no one in the hall on the second floor, so she focused her attention on the door behind the screen.

Faint voices could be heard coming from behind the door.

'That must be where Shen lives, right?'

Feeling the movement coming from inside the door, although she couldn't hear clearly, Cipher could still make out Shen's voice inside.

Coming to the door, Cipher pressed the pair of cat ears on top of her head against the door, and only then did she clearly hear the conversation inside.

"Boss Shen, you owe us an explanation. Because of your inaccurate intelligence, we not only lost a dozen members, but even Felix and Chu son, Augie, were captured by the other party."

"Heh heh, Captain Li, I told you before, I asked him to bring back information about the target. But you guys directly took people to apprehend the target."

"Then you failed to apprehend them, and now you want to blame it on me? What, are you trying to find a scapegoat to help you alleviate your superiors' anger?"

"You--"

"Enough." Before Captain Li could finish, Shen interrupted him, "I am not a member of the Reverse Current Alliance, and I don't need to be responsible for the foolish things you've done. If you really want to hold someone accountable, I will also report it to the Mercenary Association's headquarters."

Then came a series of "beep beep beep" busy tones.

'Looks like this guy is quite busy.'

Hearing the commotion inside, Cipher couldn't help but show a mischievous smile.

She then quietly opened the door to Shen's room.

"Who?!"

As soon as the door was opened, Shen, who was looking at his terminal, immediately reacted and looked towards the doorway.

But obviously, he didn't see anyone.

However, at this moment, a cat girl had already stealthily slipped through the door.

"No one? How is that possible? How could the door open by itself?"

Shen frowned. He certainly didn't think the "wind" had blown the door open.

After thinking for a moment, he immediately came to a conclusion.

"An invisibility ability user?"

'Eh? He actually guessed it, though I'm not an ability user.'

Hearing Shen's conclusion, Cipher was still a little surprised. She had thought Shen would be like the people in other novels, thinking it was opened by some supernatural force.

Watching Shen nervously looking around, preparing to make a call on his terminal, Cipher's mischievous smile grew even brighter.

"Give it here."

Cipher directly snatched the terminal from Shen's hand.

She then sat on a nearby sofa and revealed herself.

"It's you?"

With his terminal snatched, Shen was first a little startled, but he quickly saw Cipher sitting on the sofa nearby.

"That's right, it's me~"

Cipher responded to Shen with a playful tone, all while slowly tossing his personal terminal in the air.

Seeing Shen frowning and staring at her, not responding for a long time, Cipher put his terminal into her System Backpack and said to him:

"How about it, Boss Shen? Surprised, aren't you?"

"At the time, I thought Boss Shen had just given our commissioned intelligence to a relatively strong mercenary, but what I didn't expect was..."

"It turns out your goal was to reveal it to the Reverse Current Alliance, and then obtain my information through them?"
