Chapter 22 - Chapter 19: Betrayal—My Name Is on the List

You can resist the Patrol Office with increased severity, disguise, deceive, and go unpunished.

After all, no matter how corrupt, those wearing official skins are still wearing skins and have to act like humans.

But against the gang, the above approach is courting death!

Because the process of being in a gang is the process of shedding your skin; the higher you climb, the cleaner your human mask is torn off, leaving only the blood-soaked appearance of a wild beast.

And what the beast follows is intuition, adhering to the primitive and instinctual, like a dog's nose sniffing a scent—the more you run, the more it chases, until it bites you or bites you to death.

When dealing with people, you can choose to play mind games and hide and seek;

But when dealing with beasts, it's a matter of the knife going in white and coming out red.

Feng Mu, though not watching many crime movies, understood this crude truth.

Because aside from any educational significance, all crime movies tell the same story—to fight violence with violence, to repay blood with blood.

Upon returning to his room, Feng Mu did not immediately practice the Body Forging Exercise but instead sat at his desk, took out paper and pen, and sorted through his thoughts.

The deceased Zheng Hang's father—the head of the Cyan Wolf Gang, the chief culprit who won't let the case go.

That day at the crime scene, a person suspected to be a second-in-command—appeared to have brains, was he the one who defined the suspect list range?

The thugs at the school gate, the contents of the list in their hands?

The Captain of the Constables at the crime scene allowed the Cyan Wolf Gang to investigate this way, a real slap in the face.

Has the Zheng Hang case been closed, and what are the Patrol Office's subsequent actions?

Wang Wei's mother dying in the hospital, what impact does it have on the whole matter?

...

Because he didn't know the names of these figures, Feng Mu could only mark them on paper with some indirect references.

After fifteen minutes, Feng Mu crossed out several names heavily one after another, and a plan outline slowly emerged in his mind.

"I can't stop the Cyan Wolf Gang from investigating; after all, fatherly love is unstoppable. This problem has no solution, so the only option is to eliminate the people causing the problem."

The order of names Feng Mu circled on the paper was his step-by-step solution.

A knock on the door interrupted Feng Mu's train of thought; his mother, Wang Xiuli, called him out for dinner.

Feng Mu responded and habitually tore the paper into pieces, swallowing it with Iron Ball and water.

During dinner,

Feng Mu casually asked, "Dad's still not back, this case has been dragging on for quite a while now."

Seeing Feng Mu's rare concern about his father, Wang Xiuli happily shared everything she knew.

She said, "It should still take some time, it's not just your dad; they say most of the Patrol Office personnel have gone to West City, they've uncovered some leads, and probably in about two more weeks, they'll catch the person."

Feng Mu, eating his meal, asked again, "The person they want to catch, is it that so-called [Destiny] my sister mentioned?"

Wang Xiuli had no sense of confidentiality, or rather, the Patrol Office was a place with many people and loose lips.

Wang Xiuli answered, "Yeah, it seems they've locked onto the whereabouts of four or five people. If they arrest them all, the entire Patrol Office can earn a big merit."

Feng Mu licked his lips, "They've locked onto people, yet they're not closing in for the arrest?"

Wang Xiuli said, "They say there might still be an undercover contact not yet exposed, waiting to catch a big fish, though I didn't quite understand."

Feng Mu suddenly felt a jolt in his heart, recalling the system's daily prompt, [Reward has been sent, please check].

He took a sip of water to soothe his throat, "With such a ferocious and evil organization, can the Patrol Office be sure to catch them, won't there be danger?"

Though Wang Xiuli's face showed some worry, she still smiled, "It shouldn't be a problem. I get the sense from your dad's words that the Patrol Office is quite confident this time."

Feng Mu's heart sank again, but he maintained a calm exterior, responded with an 'oh', and only cleaned his plate before returning to his room.

Locking the door behind him, Feng Mu took another Iron Ball and pondered, "With such confidence from the Patrol Office, that batch of [Destiny] people is most likely doomed."

"I hope there won't be a courier delivering my packages among them, there shouldn't be, right?"

Realizing he couldn't save anyone from the Patrol Office's encirclement, Feng Mu decided not to think wildly and began practicing the Body Forging Exercise.

He spent the night awake, staying up until dawn.

Feng Mu turned off the alarm and inadvertently pressed its casing down.

He immediately realized it, examined his right hand, feeling the eerie chill flowing through his arm, down his elbow, into his wrist, and into his fingers, unknowingly enveloping his entire right hand in a chilly sensation.

"Right-hand iron transformation complete!"

Feng Mu's eyes lit up; he instinctively swung his right arm and instantly felt his entire arm become heavy as if filled with iron.

Pulling up his sleeve and comparing both arms, it was visibly evident that the right side was noticeably thicker than the left. When he rubbed his five fingers together with force, they made creaking sounds, and the skin on his palm and fingers was sore from rubbing.

Feng Mu gripped the alarm clock, and since it was already pressed in, he wasn't careful and suddenly exerted force, crushing the metal alarm clock into a lump.

Releasing his hand, the skin on Feng Mu's palm was reddish with a few bruises.

The good news is the right-hand iron transformation is complete, increasing strength;

The bad news is the transformation only affects the bones, with the skin still not matching, which can harm oneself.

"Of course, with the bones ironized into a cohesive unit, the skin's recoil is still lighter than when practicing punches, as the Iron Bone can bear and share more of the recoil."

Feng Mu pulled back his sleeve to cover his arm, inserting his right hand into his pocket to grip a knife handle, contemplating,

"It seems I need to find some iron palm martial arts; until then, anything that can be solved with a knife, I'll avoid using fists."

....

Leaving home, he rode his bike to the incineration plant.

As soon as he entered the incineration room, Wang Jian quickly approached, saying mysteriously, "Let me tell you, I was stopped on the road this morning by the Cyan Wolf Gang."

Feng Mu's pupils slightly narrowed, "Oh? Why did the Cyan Wolf Gang stop you?"

Wang Jian had a weird expression, "They inexplicably asked where I was and what I was doing on the night of the 15th, which gave me quite a fright."

Feigning confusion, Feng Mu asked, "What about the 15th?"

Wang Jian scratched his head, "I'm confused too, but he looked fierce, so I told him I was on night duty at the incineration plant on the 15th, and he asked who could vouch for me. I said all the people on duty at the plant saw it."

Not waiting for Feng Mu to respond, Wang Jian lowered his voice and said, "On the way here, I've been pondering over this. It seems like I've figured something out. Do you remember, a few days ago, you told me about the incident at the school?"

Feng Mu nodded, "What's up?"

Wang Jian looked around, confirmed no one was nearby, and then whispered, "I heard the dead person was the son of the Cyan Wolf Gang's boss."

"Huh?" Feng Mu feigned surprise, "That can't be right, I saw at the scene, it was a female student who died."

Wang Jian added rumors from unknown sources mixed with his speculative inferences, explaining seriously to Feng Mu.

"Not just that, a male student also went missing from the scene—that's the son of the Cyan Wolf Gang's boss, and the Patrol Office considers him the murderer. They've even issued a wanted order, but the Cyan Wolf Gang's boss doesn't believe it, thinks the killer is someone else, that his son was murdered and went missing."

Wang Jian sneered, confidently concluding.

"In my opinion, the Patrol Office isn't wrong, the Cyan Wolf Gang is just putting on a show for others. His son is definitely being hidden by him."

Feng Mu squinted slightly, unexpectedly finding that Wang Jian grasped the situation pretty wisely and smiled, "I think you're right."

Wang Jian, feeling clever, smiled smugly.

Feng Mu then asked, "They just asked you two questions and let you go?"

Wang Jian's eyes slightly dodged, saying, "They also asked about any classmates that have been behaving strangely recently. I said I had dropped out and couldn't possibly know these things."

Wang Jian lied; during the interrogation, he panicked, and to escape quickly, he revealed a classmate's name.

Feng Mu noticed Wang Jian's evasiveness, and his heart sank slightly.

Feeling guilty, Wang Jian hurriedly changed the subject and delivered a bombshell, "Feng Mu, you should be careful these days. I saw the Cyan Wolf Gang holding a list with your name and portrait on it."

Wang Jian paused, adding, "Not just you, Luo Ji, Tao Fei, Sun Yi... it seems they're all on the list."

Feng Mu's face showed the proper amount of seriousness, "Got it."
