Chapter 17 - Redemption’s Price

Adrian's public admissions ripple through the boardrooms and the comment threads. Investors panic; Eleanor's name gets louder in whispers. He sits for hours with the independent prosecutor and signs affidavits that will unseal decades of family archives. Each signature costs him leverage, friends, and a small, private empire of control.

Mei watches the fallout from Renée's patched couch. She wants to be moved by his sacrifice; she wants to hate it. It's complicated. She sees the man who admitted his worst in public—and she also sees the father of her child. The two truths don't fit into neat boxes.

Victor retaliates with a smear campaign that drips insinuation rather than evidence. Adrian's legal gambit exposes skeletons, but the corpse of public opinion is messy. The prosecutor asks Adrian to testify about who knew what—and when. He agrees.

Cliffhanger: The prosecutor hands Adrian a sealed file. "You may want to see this before you testify." Inside: a signed letter from Hannah Wu offering hush money to an unknown courier dated the same week the witness died.
